Three Students at University of Chicago Robbed at Gunpoint on Campus

“It was pretty concerning to see.”

Crime in Chicago? I know you’re as shocked as I am.

CBS News reports:

3 University of Chicago students robbed at gunpoint on campus

University of Chicago police are looking for a group of armed robbers who targeted three students on campus Saturday morning.

Around 5:15 a.m., the students were walking on the sidewalk in the 5800 block of South Dorchester Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood when they were approached by four to five unknown armed people who exited a white Alfa Romeo SUV.

The suspects demanded and took the victim’s property before returning to the vehicle with no license plates and drove away, last seen heading southbound on Dorchester, the school said.

Hours later, a CBS News Chicago crew found a discarded wallet and a couple student IDs in the same area. It was unclear if those were connected to the three students who were robbed at gunpoint, but the wallet and IDs were turned over to University of Chicago police.

Students said they’re worried about the robbery.

“It was pretty concerning to see.”

“Obviously, we’re in a city, and so these things happen, but yeah, it’s very close to where I live, so I was sort of surprised to see that it was in this area,” Caroline Montag said.

It was unsettling for students like Ermeen Choudhury, but not unfamiliar.

“I think it’s just kind of the reality that we all have at UChicago, unfortunately,” she said. “You know, a few of my friends have been mugged around this area, too, at 10 p.m., or sometimes in broad daylight. So, unfortunately, not very surprising.”

Democrats rush to monetize third-world shithole theme park…

“…mugged…”
such a cutesy word for armed robbery
when are we going to start calling a spade a spade (not meant to be racist should anyone take offense)

Armed robbers driving an Alfa Romeo SUV: so much for the theory that poverty causes crime.

I noticed that none of the mugs were described. G, I wonder what they were all about?

Guns are pretty much banned in Chicago. The problem is that criminals don’t abide by gun bans. So where you ban guns you leave your honest citizens at the mercy of the criminals with no way to defend themselves.

Unfortunately, every year someone gets shot on Chicago area expressways.,

This could be road rage or intentional.

From copilot:

Expressway shootings in the Chicago area have become alarmingly frequent over the past few years. Since 2019, there have been 868 expressway shootings across Illinois, with most occurring in the Chicago metro area1. In 2024 alone, there were 42 expressway shootings by mid-June1.

The most dangerous expressways include the Dan Ryan (I-94) and Eisenhower (I-290), with 206 and 136 shootings respectively since 20191. Efforts to combat this issue include increased patrols and the installation of license plate reading cameras12.

It’s a concerning trend, but authorities are working hard to address it. How do you feel about this situation?
