Why run if you have a terminal illness?

To give him the benefit of the doubt, the cancer may well have been in remission and he suffered a random stroke.

An autopsy will confirm he died of TDS. TDS not only ruins your own life, but affects the life everyone else’ around you.

New reports say he planned to carry Jackson-Lee’s legacy in congress. He carried it for two months and died of TDS after failing to show sympathy for another cancer survivor.

Talk about not being able to handle the truth!

Trump delivered so many truth bombs that everything went haywire for this Democrat.

Maybe he should’ve stood up to honor the other cancer survivor. It’s pressing your luck when you have survived cancer yourself and but then won’t honor another cancer survivor.

He should’ve stood up and clapped loudly, but alas TDS was just too strong.

So, how does his seat get filled in Texas? Special election? Appointment until a special election? Appointment for a full term?

Special Election on 3 May. It’s a solid blue district..

Strange bit of trivia, but he is the third person to hold that seat who has died in office.

All seats in the HoR that become vacant are filled by special election unless the vacancy occurs immediately prior to general election.

There’s no such thing as appointment for a house vacancy. He didn’t represent the whole state, so how could a governor who does represent the whole state possibly be allowed to appoint a replacement for him, even temporarily?

Whomever the governor were to appoint would of necessity represent those who elected the governor, and not the people of the district, whose opinions and interests differ greatly from those of the state’s majority.

Being a lefty

ISSSSS a terminal illness

During a House term, it is not usual for a few members to resign, die, or otherwise leave the House. Rs are down at the moment because of cabinet appointments. The Ds are now down a seat in a closely divided House. It is almost a given that as this is a deep blue seat it will be refilled in May. The danger in the House is that if a few Republicans leave the House the majority could be lost. Every life of a member of the House is precious to both parties respectively.

Well at least it was a Democrat. No big loss

This gives the Republicans some relief over their own vacancies. Now, once Stefanik is confirmed, perhaps she can more safely resign, knowing that the vacancy she leaves will be matched by this one until May. (There’s certainly no reason for her to resign before being confirmed. But she doesn’t have to resign immediately after. She can wait for a good time to do it, and Trump can hold off on making the appointment until then.)
