Sinema Calls Out Democrats’ Hypocrisy Over the Filibuster

For years, Democrats have railed against the filibuster, arguing that it undermines democracy by allowing “obstructionists” to block legislation.

Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema is exposing Democratic hypocrisy on the funding bill.

For years, Democrats have railed against the filibuster, arguing that it undermines democracy by allowing “obstructionists” to block legislation. Sinema herself has been a frequent target of criticism for defending it, particularly from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. However, during Friday’s vote on the Republican funding bill, only 10 Democrats crossed the aisle to break the filibuster—something Sinema wasted no time pointing out on X (formerly Twitter).

Sinema didn’t just make claims—she backed them up with receipts, embarrassing many Senate Democrats in the process.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attempted to call out Sinema, but a member of the media quickly fact-checked her claims.

Her tweets quickly caught the eye of some in the mainstream media

As Axios noted, Sinema—along with former Sen. Joe Manchin—resisted Democratic efforts in 2022 to abolish the filibuster to pass gun control, voting rights, and abortion laws, despite the party holding only 50 Senate seats.

Both Sinema and Manchin were elected as Democrats but later left the party while still serving in the Senate.

Sinema’s takedown of Democratic hypocrisy, amplified by the mainstream media, has only further weakened their efforts to counter Trump’s administration. As Democrats struggle to present a unified front, their shifting positions and internal divisions are becoming more apparent.

It’s not hypocrisy. It’s just a story for their moron base. The story changes depending on the situation.

Dems don’t care about hypocrisy. Had Harris won Chuck would have eliminated the filibuster before Biden even left office. Followed by a packed court, an Aussie gun ban, UK free speech laws and no more EC.

Democrat voters are incapable of remembering what the old Current Thing was, and are only aware of what the newest Current Thing is

Anything they are told, they cling to as gospel, even if its diametrically opposite something they were told previously.

The filibuster is working exactly as designed. If the Democrats were united in their belief that a government shutdown would accomplish their strategic goals, they would have filibustered. Instead, they decided (quite correctly) that a filibuster would: (1) result in a government shutdown; (2) the Dems would be blamed for the shutdown because a majority in the house voted for the CR and a majority of the senate voted to end debate to pass the CR; (3) in the event of a shutdown, Trump/Vought would have broader powers to run the government by determining what government roles are essential; and (4) Americans would feel little pain from the shutdown and conclude that DOGE is correct that a large percentage of the federal government’s spending is unnecessary.

Rather than shutting down national parks and the outward facing parts of the government to inconvenience Americans (as did Obama), Trump would do the exact reverse. Millions of paper pushers would go home while the military continues to protect our country, our borders would be protected, and our public spaces would remain open. That’s why the Dems didn’t filibuster.

As long as we’re on the filibuster, the Republicans should propose a Constitutional amendment to make the filibuster permanent (it’s now a “Senate Rule” that can be changed by 51 senators). The Dems are situational and will end the filibuster to ban fossil fuels, enable voter fraud, pack the Supreme Court, and make DC and PR states–just as soon as they get a chance. None of these actions are popular–but all would be implemented by the Dems if they held bare majorities and the White House. If the Dems like the filibuster–change the Constitution and make it permanent. If they don’t want it to be permanent–end it now and vote in national voter ID, same day voting (with strictly enforced exceptions for the military and legitimately ill people), end green subsidies, and root out waste and corruption in the government (all of which are supported by majorities of Americans).

The filibuster should be made permanent–or we should end it now. The Dems would end it in a New York minute if the positions of the parties were reversed. And a couple of hundred thousand votes more in the 2024 election would have given them that power. The Republicans need to play the long game.

I love the filibuster and would vote to make it permanent. But the Dems are on record that they will blow it up when they benefit from such action. If it’s going to end anyway, end it now and pass the Republican agenda. It’s put up or shut up time for the Dems.

It’s not hypocrisy. Democrats do not have fixed values beyond providing ‘bread and circuses’ to obtain or retain power.

The left thinks if you have double standards that means they’re twice as good.
