Rahm Emanuel is Likely to Run for President in 2028

Rahm Emanuel is Likely to Run for President in 2028

“I’m not done with public service and I’m hoping public service is not done with me.”

Rahm Emanuel has a lengthy resume. In addition to serving as the mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019, he served as a member of Congress, was the U.S. ambassador to Japan, and the White House chief of staff for Barack Obama.

There are already rumblings that Emanuel will run for president in 2028. If he does, he will be a formidable force in the 2028 Democratic primary, which will probably be a crowded field.

Politico is already covering this:

Rahm Emanuel Is Gearing Up to Run for President

Rahm Wants to Run.

Yes, that Rahm. And, yes, for that office — the presidency.

“I’ve only been back two months, I have no idea what I’m doing,” Rahm I. Emanuel, operative-turned-politician-turned-diplomat told me before adding his stock line since returning from serving as ambassador to Japan. “I’m not done with public service and I’m hoping public service is not done with me.”

Ignore that evasion. Rahm Emanuel is voting with his feet.

Since coming home in January from his stint in Tokyo — a job he repurposed to be American envoy to all of Asia — Emanuel has been as visible as any other Democrat. Never mind that he currently holds no office and hasn’t been on a ballot for a decade.

Name the political podcast and Emanuel has likely been on it or will be shortly. He immediately snagged a CNN contract and regular Washington Post column, no small accomplishment for a former official at a moment of retrenchment for news organizations.

They note that Emanuel is already forming the basis of his stump speech:

The biggest Rahm-may-run tell, though, is that he’s already road-testing the first outlines of a stump speech, or at least an issue he can make his own.

I caught it last month when he came to Washington to appear before a conference held by Democracy Forward, a liberal group helping to lead litigation efforts against the Trump administration.

“I am done with the discussion of locker rooms, I am done with the discussion of bathrooms and we better start having a conversation about the classroom,” Emanuel said, drawing applause as he alluded to a new study showing more than two-thirds of eighth graders can’t read at grade level.

Emanuel was test-marketing this talking point on ‘Real Time’ with Bill Maher just two weeks ago. It seemed obvious even then that he was thinking about running. In this clip he manages to break with the Democrats in recent years on major issues. He denounces the lawlessness that has gripped Democrat-run cities, he suggests that while Democrats argue about trans people and bathrooms, kids are not learning to read. He also gets major applause from the audience. Watch:

If he runs, Emanuel will easily get the backing of Clinton Democrats and the machine associated with them. He will possibly also get the backing of the Obamas. The question is whether the party’s far left base will embrace him, or reject him over his seeming retreat from woke ideology.

Oh, that’s just peachy…

Right. He may present himself as a “New Democrat” (like Bill Clinton) so as to appear more centrist. Bill was a lot of things, but centrist wasn’t one of them. I can’t think of anything positive to say about a Chicago Dem. Get ready for some dirty cage-fighting.

You don’t have to support Emanuel or his politics. But if you care about our country, you should consider this good news. He’s a serious, legitimate Democrat candidate, and a centrist at that. A competent manager. Smart. Worldly. If the Democrats elect him, it will be a very good thing that pulls the party back from (or out of) the abyss. It will be a relief to have a centrist running – at least for those of us who are centrists. Is he to the left of center? Yes. Is he perfect? No. But I – and one heck of a lot of America – would vote for someone like him at this juncture. And get ready, because this guy is a real Chicago Democratic machine knife fighter.

I live in suburban Chicago. We saw through Rahm — he’s all about him and his Clintonista friends, and his Obama friends, and anyone in the Democrat party with money. He came after Richard M. Daley (aka “Short Shanks”), and continued Daley’s long drive to run Chicago into the ground.

Centrist? Leftist? Progressive? None of this — what he cares about is the boodle; who has it and how it’s going to be carved up. He’d be another Biden (only truly ‘woke’, as in, he’d be awake every day) dispensing favors and cash.

You get one thing right — he is a knife fighter, right out of the gutter.

Rahm Emanuel doesn’t concern me as much as his brother, Ezekiel “Curl Up and Die at 75” Emanuel. Hard to believe that putz is an oncologist, but there you have it. Zeke is 67. Perhaps someone should tell him that his Medicare is cancelled and he’s on his own, just as that sphincter would have everyone else do (himself and leftist elites excepted, of course).

Rahm was part of the project to strangle this country with the Obamacare medical disaster. Then he turned his sights on Chicago to help sink it further into being one of the worst major cities in the US. Even with that awful resume, Demorats will vote for him. They never learn! .

    What is “centrist” about him?

You just don’t get it. This left-wing hack has less chance of getting the nomination than just about anyone I can think of. “Knife fighter?” He’s a Chicago machine politician in a time when people have nothing but contempt for that sort. He’s Barack Obama without the charisma, and it’s hilarious that you think he has the slightest chance of winning… and sad that you support such a creature.

Good luck explaining to the Democrat base that your service in the IDF was a good thing. Honestly, I’m as pro-Israel as anyone. But, I’m very uncomfortable with US citizens serving in foreign armies while still US citizens. I understand that it’s allowable under the US Code so long as
you weren’t an officer (there may be a couple other stipulations as well. Not entirely sure). In any event, there’s ZERO chance the Founders would have viewed foreign military service favorably when they were contemplating the Natural Born Citizenship standard for POTUS. How do you serve as the US Commander-in-Chief when your only military experience was with a foreign army? I don’t think you can.

IDGAF. Over the last 30-years, the US has sent hundreds of thousands of men & women into combat, many of them coming back in pieces and too many not coming back at all. And yet, during that same period of time, Rahm Emanual decided to serve to defend a different country than the one he now wants to lead? No thanks.

That’s completely wrong. They had plenty of experience both with foreign volunteers coming to help them fight, and with them going off to help foreigners in their wars. They regarded it as a normal thing.

      Lafeyette. ‘Nuff said.

MG Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin, aka Baron von Steuben, born in Prussia, rose to the rank of Inspector General of the U.S. Army. Died a U.S. citizen.

BG Casimir Pułaski, born in Poland, was granted posthumous honorary U.S. citizenship in 2009, He and his Hungarian pal COL Michael Kováts de Fabriczy are known as the Founding Fathers of the U.S. Cavalry.

Early aboloitionist BG Andrzej Tadeusz Bonawentura Kościuszko, described by Jefferson to be “as pure a son of liberty as I have ever known,” has too many exploits to list but, notably, intended his sizable American estate to be used to manumit and educate black slaves—including Jefferson’s. (Jefferson effed it up, of course.)

As counterpoint, I offer Connecticut-born hero of the battles of Fort Ticonderoga &Fort Saratoga and former MG Benedict Arnold, who stood ready to surrender West Point (architected and fortified by the aformentioned Engineer-in-Chief COL Kościuszko).

The really bizarre thing about this idea is that Rahm Emanuel is to right of the current d/prog party political center. Obama’s former Chief of Staff, the former Mayor of Chicago is to the right of most elected d/prog and d/prog power brokers.

Maybe …if he gets the nomination and if the d/prog party doesn’t splinter. They have a very shaky coalition. IMO, the center/right populism of MAGA/MAHA along with an assist from high profile events Covid, Ukraine, Trans, Open Borders, Wild deficit spending has caused a bit of an awakening. They can’t rely upon the old certainties of 90%+ ‘Black’ vote, 75%+ ‘Latino’ vote, mass Union member vote to help push the radical Feminist, LGBTQ, Eco extremists and socialist blocs to victory.

Many formerly core d/prog.voters see the Cray Cray policies for what they are; deliberate attempts to destroy middle class and basic Western Civ traditions and values. They pulled the lever for DJT. Others stayed home. IMO the d/prog are on a precipice of their own making b/c they got so far out of touch with what average voters care about. Look at their reaction to DOGE and them forced to.defend Cray Cray spending like Trans Sesame Street in Arabic. It doesn’t make.sense.

An old retread? Go ahead, Dems. The young Republicans have new candidates such as Vance and DeSantis and others. We need new young blood.

I personally don’t think Rahm stands much of a chance once the Aryan, I mean Palestinian Brotherhood gets to work against his potential candidacy. Rahm was a do-nothing mayor, his brother Zeke (an oncologist of all things!) is the one who said people should just die at 75 and be done with it, and both of them are so glued to the Obamatross that it would be hard to shake that. We’ll see. Feh.

Yes, that is definitely what he means. He may even mean it sincerely and not for the money, but it’s still what he means. It’s the only means Democrats can imagine to improve education, and they’re constantly surprised when it doesn’t work. Their answer is always that we didn’t do enough of it.

They’re the same with their conviction that restricting gun rights must reduce crime, and if it doesn’t it just means we need even more of it. No matter how high crime is, they’re convinced that it would be worse if we had more gun freedom. And many/most of them honestly believe this, just as medieval doctors believed in the medicinal power of blood loss.

This is the first potential presidential candidate to take seriously because nobody has ever heard his name, fewer people know who he his, and still fewer can name anything he has ever said or done.

That said the state of the economy will determine the winner of the 2028 election.

If the economy is doing will in 2028 we will win.

The question is whether the party’s far left base will embrace him, or reject him over his seeming retreat from woke ideology.

Also over the fact that he’s a Jooo, and a zionist, and once did a stint as a civilian volunteer with the IDF.

No chance Americans will elect a Jew as POTUS.
Last one to try was Bernie Sanders, and the party rejected him, and before him Barry Goldwater.
Goldwater had a Jewish dad and he was not considered a Jew by many but still, a Jew in many an eye.
This is not an antisemitic slur folks, its just the facts.
Ever wonder why Schumer never threw his hat in the ring?
