Legal Insurrection Foundation – 2024 Annual Report
LIF has become an engine not just for legal change, but also for cultural change.
I’m writing to update you on the progress of the Legal Insurrection Foundation (LIF), and to provide you with our 2024 Annual Report.
Some of you have been readers and supporters since the earliest days of the Legal Insurrection Blog, which launched in October 2008 as a solo blog. How things have changed.
LIF launched in March 2019, in an effort to expand our impact. What a six years it has been. Happy 6th Anniversary to us!
LIF’s first major effort was covering the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College trial in May 2019, just two months after launch. We were the only national outlet to have a reporter in the courtroom for the several week trial and the resulting verdict was monumental not only for the Gibson family, but for us as well, catapulting our newly-launched foundation into the national spotlight.
We never sit still, however, and in 2020 we began to focus on Critical Race Theory and its variants, like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), long before the media and the rest of conservative world were aware of the dangers of those ideologies. Being ahead of the popular curve is one of our strengths.
This led to our February 2021 launch CriticalRace.org, to much media fanfare and enormous public response. Since launch, the CRT website has generated over 3 million page views from over 600,000 unique visitors performing over 8 million actions on the website. Our unique interactive databases, and our analysis based on that data, has garnered over 170 media links and cites, and even a congressional resolution!
In February 2023, we launched the Equal Protection Project (EqualProtect.org)(EPP) because we were receiving so many tips about discriminatory programs and scholarships done in the name of DEI. EPP has really put us in a national leadership position. We have filed over 70 cases challenging over 200 programs and scholarships, generating over 30 ‘wins’ and enormous impact, with over 200 broadcast media interviews and thousands of media mentions.
LIF has become an engine not just for legal change, but also for cultural change. The combination of our three platforms – the blog, CriticalRace.org, and EqualProtect.org – plus earned media reaches tens of millions of people.
There’s one thing we are not good at, however, and that’s communicating how much we do and how large our impact is. So we decided to produce our first-ever annual report, the Legal Insurrection Foundation 2024 Annual Report.
This year already is off to a fast start, building upon our 2024 successes.We are expanding on every front and in each of our projects, seeking to leverage the change in D.C. to our advantage.
