JD Vance Skewers CBS News for ‘Harassing My Mother-in-Law’ Over Their Differing Views on DEI

Considering how he smoothly handled the biased CBS News moderators at the 2024 vice presidential debate and his nuking of “Face the Nation” anchor Margaret Brennan in a late January interview on the issue of illegal immigration, I think it’s safe to say there is no love lost between Vice President JD Vance and the purported news network.

That theory proved true again on Wednesday after the media outlet ran a piece that was centered around the beliefs of Vance’s mother-in-law, Lakshmi Chilukuri, who is a provost at a higher education institution and who also happens to be a proponent of DEI:

As universities around the country race to assess new federal policies geared toward ending programs related to diversity, equity and inclusion, known as DEI, one college administrator is in a potentially tricky position.Lakshmi Chilukuri is the provost of the University of California San Diego’s Sixth College. She is also Vice President JD Vance’s mother-in-law. Chilukuri helped create a pilot course on race, ethnicity and gender in biology and medicine, served on the university’s biological sciences diversity committee, and has written proudly of her school’s commitment to diversity. The university features its diversity efforts prominently on its website and a letter from Chilukuri to incoming students emphasizes the school’s “steadfast adherence to principles that drive equity, inclusion, and an embrace of diversity.”

If CBS News thought reaching out to Vance for his thoughts on the subject was a smart thing to do, they were sadly mistaken. In response, he skewered them for using his and his mother-in-law’s differing views on DEI to not only try and drive a wedge between them but also to attack the Trump administration:

Vance said in a statement, “I don’t like DEI, and I’m proud of what our administration has done on that front.””But I love my mother-in-law. If she doesn’t share my views on DEI I suppose I’ll have to do what 99 percent of Americans do when confronted with a family member who doesn’t always agree with them: get over it,” Vance said. “I’ll choose instead to focus on her kindness and the fact that she’s an incredible mother and loving grandmother to the most important people in my life.”Vance added, “This story exists because CBS has decided that harassing my mother in law is a reasonable price in order to attack President Trump.” Chilukuri did not reply to emailed questions. A spokesperson for the university declined to comment.

The article is especially revolting when one considers the great lengths the MSM used to go to shield then-President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, from the scrutiny he deserved. Hunter Biden craved the spotlight, was a convicted felon, at one point was a deadbeat dad, and used his father’s name and power for leverage in highly questionable international business dealings.

Lakshmi Chilukuri, on the other hand, has had no such cravings for the limelight, and her only “crime” has been to be the mother-in-law of the man who stands second in command behind President Donald Trump. And for that, she must pay the price, in the media’s view.

This is how it is always going to be with the MSM and Vance. We first saw it with the sneering over the summer, after he was selected to be Trump’s running mate, with NBC News for instance desperately searching for more information on Mrs. Vance’s political views in apparent disbelief that an “extremist” Republican like Vance and an Indian-American woman could even co-exist, much less be married and have children together.

There were also the opinion columns from newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, like one from September 2024 with the headline “How can Usha Vance stand by her husband as he fans bigotry?”

In some ways, it’s similar to how they have long treated Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, with articles about how Melania Trump is an immigrant, so how can Trump hold the “racist” views he does about illegal immigration?

It makes no sense, but it’s just who they are. Yet again, they’re demonstrating they haven’t learned a single thing from the November 2024 election. Sadly, it’s only going to get worse the more Trump and Vance (and Elon Musk) enrage them.
