Israel Eliminates Ismail Barhoum, Hamas’ Gaza ‘Prime Minister’ and Terrorism Financing Chief

The IDF describes Barhoum was a “key figure in Hamas” who was “actively involved in the military decision-making process that directly impacted Hamas’ operations.”

The hunt is on for Hamas’ top leadership in Gaza after the terrorist group last week rejected a U.S. ceasefire proposal and refused to release the remaining Israeli hostages. The latest terrorist to be eliminated in the ongoing Israeli precision strikes was Ismail Barhoum, who boasted the title of Gaza’s unelected ‘prime minister’ and managed the finances of Hamas.

Barhoum took charge of the Hamas regime in Gaza only last week after his predecessor Essam al-Da’alis, another wanted terrorist, was killed in a similar Israeli airstrike. The slain Hamas operative “was under US sanctions” for his terrorist activities, the New York Post noted.

Israeli armed force and Shin Bet security agency “conducted a targeted strike in the area of Khan Yunis, eliminating the terrorist Ismail Barhoum, head of Hamas’ finances and institutions in the terrorist organization’s political bureau, and the successor to Essam al-Da’alis, former head of the Hamas Government who was eliminated last week,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement Monday.

The IDF described Barhoum as a “key figure in Hamas” who was “actively involved in the military decision-making process that directly impacted Hamas’ operations.”

Barhoum managed a vast financial network that kept Hamas’ terrorist operations running. “In his capacity, Barhoum was oversaw Hamas’ financial management in the Gaza Strip, channeling funds to Hamas’ military wing, financing and planning the execution of terror attacks against the State of Israel,” the IDF added. “These funds financed the terrorist organization’s continued survival in the Gaza Strip and were used to carry out terror attacks and to purchase weapons, which posed a threat to IDF forces and the citizens of the State of Israel.”

Barhoum’s elimination comes after the IDF eliminated several senior Hamas terrorists, including the top Gaza-based terrorist planner Salah al-Bardawil and two commanders heading Hamas’s jihadist battalions.

He was targeted at his base inside southern Gaza’s former Nasser Hospital, which Hamas has turned into a terrorist command center since the war began following the October 7 massacre. Hamas was using the “hospital as a shelter for the planning and executing of murderous terrorist attacks,” the IDF noted in its statement Monday. The Legal Insurrection repeatedly reported on Hamas’s terrorist activities being directed from Nasser Hospital.

“The claim that Barhoum was in Nasser hospital for medical treatment is completely false and was spread to mislead the public and the media,” IDF Spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani explained on X. “Barhoum was in the hospital in order to commit acts of terrorism, cynically using hospital patients and the population in the area as human shields.”

The IDF’s latest advance on the ground and its surgical strikes of Hamas’s top brass comes as a shock to the Gaza-based terrorist group, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing Arab media sources:

Hamas may be concerned as it sees the IDF advancing in Gaza and appears to so far have very little to confront the advance. The IDF has begun a multi-pronged ground offensive in Gaza since March 19 that has seen forces from several units penetrate into areas of northern Gaza, the Netzarim corridor south of Gaza city and also areas of southern Gaza.

The hints of Hamas concern can be seen in the scramble by Cairo to try to broker some kind of deal; and also reports in Arabic media.

The pro-Hezbollah Lebanese Al-Akhbar, for instance, has written about a new “assassination” policy by Israel. This comes after the high profile strikes on several Hamas political leaders in Gaza. In addition several key Hamas terrorist leaders of units in the area of Shejaiya were killed.

Al-Akhbar says “over the past two days, the situation on the ground in the Gaza Strip has shifted from the framework of the air operation and military pressure on Hamas to the return of full-scale warfare, coinciding with an assassination campaign targeting a number of the movement’s leaders.”

IDF strikes Hamas pickup trucks used on October 7

The IDF destroyed vehicles used to by Hamas during the October 7 attack. “The Israel Defense Forces carried out dozens of airstrikes Sunday night and Monday, including on empty white pick-up trucks belonging to the Hamas terror group, of the type used in the October 7, 2023, invasion of southern Israel and in propaganda ceremonies for the release of hostages,” The Times of Israel reported.

It’s a Barhoum Blitz!

In other news Tucker Carlson has been spotted purchasing plane tickets to mourn a dear friend of his who happens to have been killed by the IDF in a hospital.

Once again the IDF demonstrates to the terrorist honchos that the IDF knows enough about their doings and whereabouts to selectively pick them off.

Barhoum’s situation sounds less like an interim demotion than a complete elimination of his job and title with the IDF’s latest Gaza attrition campaign. It’s a bear market for Hamass, it appears.
