GOP Chair Calls Transgender Lawmaker “Mr.,” Sparks Fury

GOP Chair Calls Transgender Lawmaker “Mr.,” Sparks Fury

“Mr. Chairman, you are out of order. Mr. Chairman, have you no decency?”

During a Tuesday hearing of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Chairman Keith Self (R-TX) recognized Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE), the first openly transgender member of Congress, as Mr. McBride.

“I now recognize the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” he said.

McBride immediately shot back. “Thank you Madam Chair.” She then proceeded with her prepared remarks.

She was interrupted by Ranking Member Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) who turned to Self and asked, “Mr. Chairman, could you repeat your introduction again please?”

Self replied, “We have set the standard on the floor of the House and I’m simply —”

Self was referring to a similar incident that occurred last month when Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) recognized McBride as “the gentleman from Delaware, Mr. McBride.”

In any case, he was abruptly cut off by Keating, who was quickly losing patience. “What is that standard, Mr. Chairman? Would you repeat what you just said when you introduced a duly-elected representative from the United States of America? Please!”

“I will,” Self replied quite matter-of-factly. “The representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride.”

“Mr. Chairman, you are out of order. Mr. Chairman, have you no decency? I’ve come to know you a little bit, but this is not decent,” Keating said.

When Self tried to continue the hearing, Keating raised his voice and yelled, “You will not continue it with me unless you introduce a duly-elected representative the right way.”

With that, Self brought down his gavel and adjourned the hearing.

And that was the end of that.

Following the meeting, Self posted on X, “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.”

Self, of course, is right. But this is a difficult issue. I agree there are only two sexes, and that a biological male who presents as a woman is not, in fact, a woman. However, for the sake of civility—especially in an institution like Congress, where decorum is highly valued—wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “Ms. McBride” and move on?

As it happened, McBride fired back at Self and then carried on with her planned speech. So why couldn’t Keating have just let it go?

As I see it, transgenderism is a form of mental illness. And McBride, formerly Democratic state Sen. Tim McBride, is only fooling himself. But that doesn’t mean he should be ridiculed by his colleagues.

That said, I completely stood behind Rep. Nancy Mace’s efforts in November to ban McBride from the women’s bathrooms on Capitol Hill.

Transgenders should not be subjected to cruelty, but neither should the women on Capitol Hill be forced to share their private areas with a man.

House Speaker Mike Johnson resolved the issue with the following statement:

All single-sex facilities in the Capitol and House Office Buildings – such as restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms – are reserved for individuals of that biological sex. It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.

Women deserve women’s only spaces.

The Massachusetts embarrassment continues:

Today staring Bill Keating, one of nine leftist Congressmen, none currently are active members of MENSA.

Pocahontas: the fraudulent Senator Liz Warren, who is perpetually aggrieved, but “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”.

Ed Markey: the career dimwitted “other Senator”, zero accomplishments in his entire term in office. At least he hasn’t screwed anything up.

Maura Healey: whose only “accomplishments” as AG prior to becoming governor was suing Donald Trump, almost daily.

Chairman Michelle Wu, the illegal loving Marxist mayor of Boston. Hopefully off to the clink soon courtesy of the US Justice Department.

What happened to the cradle of liberty? It’s a lost cause.

Bill Keating is Mr Invisible. I literally had no idea he was alive let alone still in Congress and I follow politics pretty closely in this state.

Markey screwed up telecommunications about 20 odd years ago with the telecom reform act. He may be the dumbest person to ever set foot in the Senate which is saying a lot given that Biden and Harris were both Senators.

I do kind of like Stephen Lynch. Down deep he is pretty conservative but has to hide it serving in MA.

Let’s not forget Cueball Pressley, proud member of the squad. Jim McGovern, representing Nicaragua. Seth Moulton, in the doghouse for stating he wouldn’t want his daughters playing sports again transwomen. Former rep Joe Kennedy III, red haired stepchild. His father, the professor of ugh and Hugo Chavez best buddy Joe Kennedy II. Former Governor and Presidential candidate good jobs at good wages Michael Dukakis, last seen emulating a squirrel popping up from a tank, And who could forget (even though I’ve tried) the former presidential candidate, former secretary, perpetual liar gigolo John “Long Yawn” Kerry, ex-Senator D-France. And there are more than that, God help us all.

I also live in Massachusetts. I’m so embarrassed.

Max Kennedy, who bought a home in MA to run for congress than immediately sold it when it appeared he couldn’t win. Hmm, perhaps listing the Kennedy’s could be considered overkill.

Ahh, let’s not forget the corrupt midget Billy Bulger, senate president and protector of his brother notorious gangster Whitey Bulger as if we could.

Following the meeting, Self posted on X, “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female.”

But McBride identifies as a female. That doesn’t contradict the policy. Is it the official policy that you may only be referred to by your birth sex? Maybe it should be, but it’s not.

Recognizing simple facts of nature is one thing. Trying to score political slam dunks by purposely insulting your colleagues has nothing to do with good governance and everything to do with pandering. McBride’s response was perfect and all that needed to be said. Keating should have enough faith in his fellow democrats to fight their own battles instead of white knighting like a stereotypical social justice warrior and derailing official proceedings even further.

How many discussions on actual issues were tabled due to childish nonsense?

And again note this incident was due to a similarly stupid man getting riled up on another person’s behalf. McBride’s response was hardly a sentence.

“Thabk you @RepKeithSelf for defending women’s rights & common sense!”

It’s much more sinister than that. It’s not only wrong to demand that others deny reality, it’s also Evil. Intended or not, it’s a form of brain washing. Because you CAN train your mind to li to you, to edit sensory input and actually consider a man in a skirt to be a woman.

The problem is that when you train your mind to alter reality, your subconscious sneaks into the classroom and takes notes. And then one day your perception of reality starts to be edited without your knowledge or permission. My understanding is that the uncomfortable conflicting truths are the first to go, as your begins to edit out whatever causes you distress.

I watched a liberal friend go through this. He has completed censored the Oct 6th massacred from his mind- they never happened in his world. One small problem: he was the one who called thst day and told me to turn on the tv.

As someone who’s mental health is often called into question (LOL) I can assure you that this is more dangerous than you might think. My work involves crafting alternate realities so I put down strong anchors to this one years ago. But there are many people in the margins susceptible to this hijacking of reality.

It’s why the Marxists support it – this is how you not only get people to parrot “we’ve always been at war with East Asia” but to actually believe it. Sp while it may seem rather silly and just a matter of courtesy do not give an inch on this.

GWB, do you simply not know any transsexuals? Or are you deliberately rude to their faces, just for the sake of being obnoxious? In contexts where a person’s actual sex is not at issue, refusing to refer to them as they have asked you to is just rude. They’re not rubbing their agenda in your face, you’re rubbing yours in theirs.

Refusal to enable lies about reality is a right and a moral duty, even if some get upset about the truth. I respect the Congressman’s adherence to his principles, and question the ethics of those who argue otherwise.

So, you say people should be referred to as they request.

        Fine.

Henceforth, you will refer to me as “Willem, Prince of Orange, Duke of Nassau, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Knight Commander of the Holy Roman Empire, Admiral General of the Imperial Forces, Adviser to the Martian Nests, Protector of the Poor, and, by the Grace of God, King of the Lowlands and Emperor of the Planets and the Spaces Between.” *

Then there’s the lefty arsonists busy burning teslas, the loons attacking normie Students who just want to go to class and move about campus unimpeded by crazed ‘protesters’.

    Denying reality has consequences.
Calling a man Ms. or Miss because he likes to walk around in public cosplaying as a woman has consequences. One of those consequences is the surgical mutilation of children.
Now, the knee jerk reaction of some people reading this will be, “Oh, stop it. Just because we agree to address a man as a woman doesn’t mean we have to let children be transitioned.” Apparently it does.
You see, the Left has no stopping point because they have no moral Stop signs. If a man can be turned into a woman then why can’t a boy can be turned into a girl? That’s perfectly logical reasoning if you operate at all times with no set moral foundation. In the past you could have said, “Bullshit! There is no way anyone would seriously do such a thing. And there’s no doctor who would ever perform such a vile medical experiment.” They can, they have, and they continue to do so. Right now. Today.
    That’s reality.

“Is it the official policy that you may only be referred to by your birth sex? Maybe it should be, but it’s not.”

My official policy is that I have exactly the 1st Amendment rights the newly-minted 1st Amendment absolutists claim Hamas-supporting, Jooo-hating, Syrian citizen Mahmoud Khalill has. They’re wrong about that guy, this isn’t even a 1st Amendment issue, but now that they’ve discovered the 1st Amendment I’m taking the opportunity to stand on my rights and point out that compelled speech is a violation of my right to freedom of expression. I get to choose the words I use. Not the trans speech Stalinists. I am not “misgendering” McBride when I call him a man. He’s “misgendering” himself when he insists he’s a woman.

It’s funny. When this became a national issue, the first dodge the left tried was to feign surprise that the REPUBLICANS were making a mountain out of molehill, since the number of transwomen (to keep it straight in my mind about which way the transition is going, I mentally replace the prefix “trans” with “not”) competing against actual girls/women is vanishingly small. It really doesn’t effect anybody, so why, the leftists who are making trans lunacy one of the centerpieces of their ideology, are the REPUBLICANS making such a big deal out this?

Great. I agree. Let’s not make a big deal out of this. There’s absolutely no reason the vast majority of the population should be inconvenienced to accommodate the sensitivities of such a small number of people. Therefore we don’t need to invent any new pronouns at all. nd to simplify things even further, the 1st Amendment guarantee of freedom of expression means I have the absolute right to decide what pronouns I use and nobody else has to like it.

Oh, wait. It turns out it isn’t the Republicans making a big deal out of nothing after all.

    https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2015/12/new-york-city-will-fine-up-to-250000-for-willful-malicious-misuse-of-gender-pronouns/

“New York City will fine up to $250,000 for willful, malicious misuse of gender pronouns
You can be fined ““up to $125,000 for violations, and up to $250,000 for violations that are the result of willful, wanton, or malicious conduct.”

To be honest, I don’t know the status of this 2015 NYC ordnance, And I don’t care. I’m sick and tired of the enemies of the 1st Amendment trying to twist reality so that the “nice” and “decent” thing to do is participate in a lie, and then taking every opportunity to criminalize those who won’t voluntarily give up their 1st Amendment or any other enumerated right.

Colorado is currently attempting to do the same thing via their Human Rights code that NYC attempted back in 2015. Thus demonstrating despite the signs waved about by the speech Nazis that “Trans Rights are Human Rights,” Trans rights are a violation of my Constitutional rights and I will not tolerate anyone depriving me of my Constitutional rights. I will not meekly read from the script the trans tyrants have written for me as if I’m some unpaid extra in the movie playing in their delusional minds. That is a form of involuntary servitude, as a Greek playwright wrote in classical antiquity. “Only a slave is not free to speak his own mind.”

There is a principle involved here, SeymourButz (I doubt that). That principle is if you don’t enforce your own rights, the leftist speech Nazis/Stalinists/dictators will be all too happy to deprive you of them under the color of law. I would have considered that a tinfoil hat-type conspiracy theory 15 years ago but now the leftists in various jurisdictions keep trying to prove pretty much all theories about wrongthink/crimespeak are true.

I disagree. He should be ridiculed, made fun of, teased, etc. for pretending to be female. Not cruelly, of course. But enough that he knows that everyone is laughing at him behind his back and to his face. Who knows? Maybe it will eventually be enough to make him pull his head out of his ***.

FYI, he shouldn’t be physically harmed (bullying, hazing, etc.) for his mental illness either.

“He should be ridiculed, made fun of, teased, etc. for pretending to be female. Not cruelly,”

But that IS cruel. In his mind he is a woman fighting alone against EVERYTHING to assert his identity. Treating him with cruelty will only begat more cruelty. .

Besides, when did the Bully get the right to determine if his treatment of the victim is cruel? How would one know? I can relate because I’ve been falsely accused of stolen valor by an idiot who doesn’t understand how hideous such a dishonorable crime is to someone like me. She thinks it’s No Big Deal as she treats my military service with such casual contempt. It’s a cruelty that will be repaid.

I’m not saying you’re a bully, I’m saying that even if you are right, it will be of little comfort when news breaks of shots fired and 14 dead. He is mentally ill, he needs treatment not ridicule. He is not going to be socially intimidated out of his position.

And I’m the guy who thinks we should kill all the Marxists instead of giving them infinite respawns to playtest how to conquer us. So I’m not a pushover. Treating him with such contempt may be amusing and even justified but no good will come of it. He shouldn’t even be allowed in Congress until his delusion is cured. And if I’m coming off as Righteous, don’t bother being annoyed – I only know the Right path because I’ve tried all the wrong paths LOL so I’m hardly a saint. But this is wrong.

Even if the Left insists on faux “politeness”, the rest of society should not be and is not compelled to take part in a mentally ill person’s delusions.

Reality is what it is, and Mister is a respectful form of address.

It would be far better for these people with gender dysphoria to have their illness acknowledged and treated rather than pandered to. Society does them no favors by pretending along with them.

“…wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “Ms. McBride” and move on?”

Wouldn’t it be simpler for the Democrats to just clap their hands for the boy who recovered from brain cancer and the mother whose daughter was murdered by an illegal alien?

Why is it Republicans are always be the ones who are accused of not having civility?

No.

To permit the other side to require you to speak a lie is to give them far too much power and to start down the road to demoralization.

If he can’t handle the truth that he is not, will never, and cannot be a woman, Mr McBride should get mental health treatment for his delusions.

Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. Yes, PC is communist propaganda writ small, and PC was driving people out of the service immediately after Tailhook in the early 1990s and it kept getting worse.

        https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/mar/25/sailors-leaving-navy-over-stress-on-social-issues-/

“Sailors leaving Navy over stress on social issues, Top Gun instructor says”

The interesting thing about that article was who wrote it. A former Top Gun instructor leaving his Pentagon tour as one of the CNO’s speech writers, on his way to NAF Atsugi to become the Black Knights’ XO. In Naval aviation the XO relieves the CO and becomes the new CO. It doesn’t work that way in the surface Navy. So this guy is essentially on his way to his command tour and publicly fires a shot across the bow of the Obama administration’s use of Sailors as lab rats in their social engineering experiments.

He never would have written that article unless his old boss, the CNO, guaranteed he’d be protected from any adverse impact on his career.

But PC is in the rearview mirror. Now we have Woke. Which is PC on steroids, cranked up to eleventy, imposed and implemented by insane people suffering the full panoply of Group B personality disorders.

Give a pronoun but not a bathroom? Have you learned nothing from appeasement, Elizabeth?

The chair should have booted Keating and if it happens again have him stripped of his seat in main session.

“However, for the sake of civility—especially in an institution like Congress, where decorum is highly valued—wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “Ms. McBride” and move on?”

No! Official proceedings should not participate in a delusion. How far should we take the need for civility? A slippery slope indeed.

A man is not woman. A horse is not a man. Suetonius, in his book, “Lives of the Twelve Caesars” tells us that Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, better known as “Caligula” (“Boots”) planned to make his favorite horse, Incitatus, a Roman consul. If this story is true, (it probably isn’t) should the Senate have gone along in interests of civility?

Keating was out of order, and should have been removed from the hearing. Both Mister McBride and Keating have lost their marbles. Keating had better be careful because someone might punch him out one day. Sex is an immutable characteristic humans and animals. Even my dogs know this basic fact of life. So should our Congressmen.

    Incitatus was made a senator.

    And the Senate went along.

Until they killed Caligula, of course.

A better ancient example is Nero’s third “wife” — a poor young man named Sporus. Nero had him castrated and regularly referred to him by the name of Nero’s previous, deceased, wife.

At least, that’s the claim. It’s important to remember that a lot of what survived about the emperors was written by people intentionally bad-mouthing them.

True. Case in point: Elagabalus. We have two named historians who wrote about Elagabalus; Cassius Dio and Herodian. Cassius Dio was of the Senatorial class while Herodian was not. So Cassius Dio wrote about Elagabalus’ supposed effeminacy and desire to become a woman, while you’ll find no such thing in Herodian. But attacking an enemy’s manhood was a standard Roman insult. I forget the author’s name, but another author of the Senatorial class wrote that Julius Caesar had become a Barbarian king’s wife.

Elagabalus was a nickname. The emperor’s actual name when he ascended to the throne was Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. His family was from what is now Syria and his family had the hereditary rights to be the high priests of the eastern sun god Elagabel. The god’s name was latinized as Elagabalus, hence the nickname. Both Cassius Dio and Herodian wrote about Elagabalus’ out-of-control womanizing. Elagabalus greatly offended the Romans by taking a Vestal Virgin as a wife, then cast her aside. He wrote an insincere apology to the Senate. He was 14 when he became Emperor, and only lasted a little over 3 years, so he basically said, “Hey, what do you expect? I’m a young guy and I’m horny all the time.”

But remember, he was the high priest of a non-Roman god. He was deliberately insulting the Roman gods because he wanted the Romans to worship Elagabel as their chief god. Insulting their gods was not an effective way of getting the Romans (particularly Senators and Equestrians) to see things his way. They just insulted him right back. Normally his womanizing might be seen as hypermasculinity. But the Senators spread the rumor he only had sex with all those women because he really wanted to become a woman. After all he wore make-up like a woman!

That wasn’t unmanly for a high priest of an eastern or Egyptian god, but the Romans thought it was effeminate. So the Senators could use that against him. None of this made it into Herodian’s writings because he wasn’t out to slander Elagabalus. The Senators, and Cassius Dio was one of them, were out to slander him. Elagabalus was actually popular with the plebes and the aristocrats were trying to turn them against him.

When he started child sacrifice to his god (the children of the Roman elite) his religious provocations cause Roman anger to boil over and he and his mother were assassinated, their bodies decapitated, stripped naked, dragged through the streets of Rome, and dumped into the Tiber.

Apparently he and mom had worn out their welcome. He really was a garbage human being, and I find it amusing that the trans cult has claimed him as an icon simply because they believed the standard Roman aristocratic insults about his manhood.

“But this is a difficult issue. I agree there are only two sexes, and that a biological male who presents as a woman is not, in fact, a woman. However, for the sake of civility—especially in an institution like Congress, where decorum is highly valued—wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “Ms. McBride” and move on?”

I could not DISAGREE with this any more than I am!

This is NOT a civility issue. Its a reality issue, that guy is a man, man!

He is also a man with a mental health issue.

Now dont get me wrong, if this guy wants to think he’s a donut then more power to him. However no one else should ever be forced to also agree that he’s a donut. Because he is not.

Its also not difficult. Just because you want to be a donut does not mean you are a donut.

This issue is so boring and so inconsequential. I would have called the person Representative McBride or M McBride and just avoided the whole senseless posturing.

The only important aspects of this issue are:

1) Genitals define the bathroom/locker-room you use.
2) Women in women’s sports.
3) No transition drugs to minors 99.9% of the time (there may be a case or two where it is warranted).
4) Schools must refrain from transitioning child genders and must inform
parents of anything regarding their children.
5) Parents hold all responsibility for the minors under their care.

As Captain Picard said, there are four lights.

However, for the sake of civility—especially in an institution like Congress, where decorum is highly valued—wouldn’t it be simpler to just say “Ms. McBride” and move on?

Decorum. Our lives are being run by unelected bureaucrats who are now openly defying the Constitution and the law. We are a gazillion dollars in debt. We are spied on by a government that believes anyone outside their tiny social circles is a deadly terrorist. Dissidents have been murdered in the Capitol or locked up for years on bogus charges. We are having the very life being crushed out of us – but by golly let’s have some decorum as we are being exterminated!

Maybe – just maybe! – indulging in the lunatic fantasies of mentally-ill men like McBride is not such a great idea.

nothing hurts like the truth!

If McBride did not become overtly contentious on the matter past a poke back of Madame Chairman why did Rep. Keating think it was his place to blow it all up. Seems like mansplaining to me.
That said the easy way would be for the Chair to call him Representative McBride. Correct and doesn’t allow for grandstanding by anybody.

The simple solution is to genetically yes every baby to determine if they have XX or XY chromosomes and use that to determine if they are male or female. This would prevent people from changing their gender.

He called him him; he called him her. Insult and answered. Move on.

Unfortunately because of how blue Delaware is McBride is going to remain a rep until he decides to run for Senate, governor, or even President as is the Delaware Way. Zero chance of him going away and he’s going to invite these incidents to score “wins” for team blue.

No, we should not. If the left has proven anything if you give an inch they will take a mile. Never apologize for speaking the realistic truth.

As far as “decorum” and “Civility” they should be met with the same. However, as Rep. Keating demonstrated the left has no decorum or civility so it is moot.

Yes, it might be easier to refer to Mr. McBride as “She”, but taking the easy way is giving up the truth for lies and that is never a good trade.

Exactly. The “civility” of addressing men pretending to be women as if they are actually women in real life is how we got where we are.
“Just be understanding.” “Just be civil.”
Decency. Right. This nonsense leads to people cutting off the breasts and testicles of children!

“Why is it Republicans are always be the ones who are accused of not having civility?”

Because too many Republicans have telegraphed that they value Dignity more than Liberty. They hit us there because we’ve shown them that’s where it hurts.

Elizabeth, no disrespect but I don’t see the line between calling McBride “her” but denying her access to women’s spaces.

I’m sure it’s a difficult position to maintain, but can you point to any ethical standards that demand you misreport the truth? He is not a she.

So, “having decency” means addressing an elected man as Mrs. or Ms. because he enjoys walking around Congress cosplaying as a woman.
No.
Indecency doesn’t deserve to be treated with respect.

Do none of you people know any transsexuals?! Do none of you have transsexual friends?! Colleagues?! Relatives?! Do you live in caves?! Or are you just deliberately dicks to these people just because it makes you feel good, just so you can impress yourselves with your own virtue?

This isn’t a matter of scientific accuracy, or speaking truth to power, it’s simply a matter of common manners. If someone wants to be addressed in a certain way, you do not deliberately address him differently just to annoy him. You are not required to agree with his fantasy or delusion, and in contexts where his actual sex is the topic you are not required to pretend to believe something that you don’t, but the context of ordinary conversation and social interaction you owe him the same consideration as anyone else.

Most of us probably don’t know any transexuals. They simply used to occupy a tiny percentage of the population. Now who knows. It seems to be some sort of status symbol. Who knows why.

I don’t much care about this issue except where child transition and the military are concerned. Transexuals are mentally ill. They need to be treated as such. They are to be pitied.

As for those progressive whackjobs that enable them, those are the people that need to be ridiculed. They are theoretically normal, although I have my doubts.

#1 Rule of dealing with people with hallucinations is that you don’t acknowledge whatever they are seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, etc. (hallucinations hit all senses) as real. That’s a foundation rule of medicine. Same applies in this situation. As a mother of three girls and three boys all under the age of seven, I do not want them around any of this. As a woman, I don’t want to see a man in a woman’s space. It’s that simple. As a physician, I know what a woman is, even though Ketanji Brown Jackson does not, and she’s a SCOTUS Associate Justice. Go figure.
