Democrats Lack of Class was On Full Display During Trump’s Speech

“Go ahead and roll your eyes at the 13 year old brain cancer survivor who wants to be a police officer when he grows up. D**n that’s cold.”

During a speech in the midst of the 1970 midterm cycle, then-Vice President Spiro T. Agnew characterized politicians who criticized Nixon administration policies as “nattering nabobs of negativism.”

That phrase came to mind as I watched the Democrats’ disgraceful behavior throughout President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.

The disruptions began right out of the gate. Most notably, accompanied by a loud chorus of boos and jeers from his colleagues intended to drown out Trump’s voice, Democratic Rep. Al Green (TX) stood up, raised his cane toward the podium and began shouting.

House Speaker Mike Johnson was forced to interrupt the speech, saying, “Members are engaging in willful and continuing breach of decorum, and the chair is prepared to direct the sergeant at arms to restore order to the joint session. … Mr. Green, take your seat.”

Democrats ignored Johnson until he ordered the House sergeant at arms to remove Green from the chamber.

Green’s hatred for the president is well-documented. During Trump’s first term, Green filed articles of impeachment against him three times. And two weeks into Trump’s new administration, he filed new impeachment articles over what he called “ethnic cleansing in Gaza.”

Green’s removal seemed to quell the raucousness, but the Democrats found other ways to express their utter contempt for the President. Perhaps the most egregious was their refusal to acknowledge the everyday heroes Trump introduced throughout the speech.

In one of the most poignant moments of the night, Trump recognized D.J. Daniel, a 13-year old boy who was once diagnosed with brain cancer and given five months to live. He is now cancer-free and dreams of becoming a police officer. Trump granted his wish. U.S. Secret Service Director Sean Curran made him an honorary agent during the speech. The boy was over the moon with happiness.

The Democrats, however, were unmoved.

Trump introduced Jason Hartley, a hardworking high school senior (with a 4.5 GPA) whose father, an L.A. county sheriff’s deputy, was killed in the line of duty when he was a boy. His dream is to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and one day continue his father’s service to the country. Trump told Hartley, “I’m pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted.”

Anyone who’s ever tried to get into a service academy or has gone through the rigorous admissions process with a child knows what a thrilling, emotional moment this is. The Democrats sat on their hands.

Democrats remained silent even when Trump introduced the grieving mother and sister of Laken Riley, a University of Georgia nursing student who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant one year ago.

Hot Air’s David Strom compiled a list of all of the moments the Democrats chose to ignore:

  • The capturing of an ISIS terrorist that masterminded the Abbey Gate attack
  • A young boy fighting brain cancer
  • A call to lower taxes for middle-class Americans
  • Americans joining the military in record numbers
  • Law and order
  • Taking down illegal revenge porn
  • Protecting women’s sports
  • The United States of America
  • Working together to Make America Great Again
  • Ending the harmful electric vehicle mandate
  • Cutting regulations to unleash American prosperity
  • Ending censorship and bringing back free speech
  • Ending discriminatory “diversity, equity, and inclusion”
  • Recognizing only two sexes
  • Defeating inflation
  • Unleashing American energy
  • Ending waste, fraud, and abuse in government
  • Ending taxes on tips, overtime, and seniors’ Social Security
  • Bringing manufacturing home to America
  • Securing historic investments in American chip manufacturing
  • Removing illegal alien killers, rapists, and drug dealers from our streets
  • Securing our border
  • Declaring the brutal Tren de Aragua gang as a Foreign Terrorist Organization
  • Waging war on the deadly cartels trafficking deadly drugs into our country
  • Punishing cop killers with the death penalty
  • Promoting health and wellness among Americans
  • Protecting our kids from radical gender ideology
  • Ending the sexual mutilation of America’s youth
  • The return of American Marc Fogel
  • Declaring America’s youth are perfect as God made them
  • Ending wokeness in the U.S. military
  • Restoring American shipbuilding
  • A student getting accepted to West Point
  • Improving America’s defenses
  • Pursuing peace in Ukraine

Trump’s address was well-received, patriotic and uplifting. A CBS News/YouGov snap poll found that, of those who watched Trump’s speech, 76% approved, while only 23% disapproved. Granted, Republicans were more apt to watch it than Democrats, but that is still an impressive result.

After the Democrats’ first interruption, Trump accurately noted, “This is my fifth such speech to Congress, and once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me, and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud, nothing I can do. I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded, and these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements. They won’t do it no matter what, five, five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way.”

The Democrats did themselves no favors and likely diminished their already tarnished party brand. From their disruptions and unwillingness to participate in even the feel-good, bipartisan moments of the night to the childish messages of “False” and “Musk Steals” on either side of the paddles they carried, they showed themselves to be petty, mean-spirited, and even un-American. They simply lack class, and it was on full display last night.

Pout away, petulant brats.

I’m just glad we don’t have a parliamentary system, where one party can get the highest vote totals in an election and still not rule because the parasite parties combine against them.

This is true. But Marjorie Taylor Greene was never evicted from the House Chamber when she disrupted Biden’s State of the Union Address.

      steves59 in reply to JR. | March 5, 2025 at 6:22 pm

Did she repeatedly act out, even after multiple warnings, dingus?
Did she wave a cane at Biden?
      Quit upvoting yourself.

Milhouse in reply to JR. | March 5, 2025 at 7:19 pm

She did not disrupt anything. She heckled, which is an entirely different thing. She did not prevent the speech from proceeding, or from being heard. When Biden told lies she called him out on them, that’s all.

She has an extra e with protective powers and he does not sing well enough.

Surprised anyone treated your predictable whataboutism concern seriously.

The current Democrat platform is Trump is evil and everything he wants to do is bad and must be opposed. Other than the courts the only thing they have is campaigning only Trump isn’t running.

The vitriol toward Trump will transfer over to Vance or whoever becomes the nominee. You can see it already starting.

Don’t be too harsh — we need the angry mother-in-laws to keep this up through the mid-terms,

LeftWingLock | March 5, 2025 at 4:04 pm

Here’s an example of just how mean Trump is. If Trump were nice, he would have given each Democrat a copy of his speech so they could have ripped it up while he was speaking

You would think they could have applauded the end of the EV mandate on account of how much they hate Elon Musk now.

henrybowman in reply to Martin. | March 5, 2025 at 4:50 pm

When one part of your fantasy reality collides with a different part, it’s so hard to decide which part to applaud. Luckily, you can just make it up as you go along, and then change it 18o° if you discover all your friends went the other way.

This sort of behavior only plays to their base, which is shrinking as they choose to cater to fewer and fewer people, ignoring the masses from which they traditionally drew support.

Zero surprise here. This is who they are.

I’m so old I remember when Democrats would politely applaud Gerald Ford and Republicans would politely applaud Jimmy Carter. At times.

But they wear pink and do other silly things, so that means they care.

First-term Rep. Sylvester Turner, D-Texas, died after suffering a medical emergency following President Donald Trump’s address to Congress, according to two House Democratic lawmakers who were informed of his death.

He was 70 years old and had just taken the oath of office in January. Turner previously faced bone cancer. His office later confirmed in a statement that he had died on Wednesday.

As I watched that wonderful man, our illustriously brilliant and hard working president, talk about all of his amazing achievements in the past month. As we all shed tears of joy over what he did for so many people, it was puzzling to see the lack of decorum of the democrats sitting there.

Most of them were very old politicians, and probably all were millionaires or richer, who would never be troubled by soaring inflation or so many of the negatives that Conservatives have faced and dealt with, but every (privileged) democrat seemed like they were wearing shoe for the first time and had no empathy for anyone else, including those brave people who had lost loved ones or were so deserving for positive things to happen. These gargoyles attempted to take all the air out of the room.

Was it because they had a good cause or any other decent reason? No, it was simply because after years of getting their way with so much devastating legislation, suddenly, they were no longer having their way.

They are just SO BAD AT THIS.

They exposed themselves as complete scumbags with no humanity.

And worse, it was BAD POLITICS.

Yes, Trump bringing out the 12 year old cancer survivor was a political stunt. And it worked, because you gave him EXACTLY what he knew you were going to do. You refused to applaud a 12 year old surviving cancer.

So now every single Republican in any even slightly contested district can cut the ad of, ‘I’m Mr Smith running to replace GENERIC DEMOCRAT. I stand for you, I stand for X, Y and Z issues, unlike my opponent who couldn’t even stand for a 12 year old cancer survivor’.

Democrats are just SO BAD AT THIS.

Yeah its a stupid political stunt, but you applaud the heroic cancer survivor, You kiss the baby.

That’s what politics is.

paulscott in reply to Olinser. | March 6, 2025 at 1:28 am

    This.

I would imagine moderate Democrat supporters are tearing their hair out at this. Trump was deliberately winding them up and they fell for it again, as they do Every. Single. Time.

ll they have to do (IMO) is be the adult in the room I’ve been saying this for 10 years. And they cannot manage it.

Sure it’s political and PR stunts. So applaud the lad who survived brain cancer anyway. Ignore Trump if you like.

I’m surprised the paddles aren’t a meme yet. The temptation to replace the words on the paddles with gags is enormous.

A long time ago, in a Washington that no longer exists, both parties gave the president a great deal of respect and deferred to him on a great many things, even when they didn’t like what he was doing.

The single biggest reason things don’t work that way anymore is because the left simply does not do respect. Ever.

I’m surprised they didn’t start singing. “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” from Sir Elton would be fitting.

Gremlin1974 | March 5, 2025 at 6:49 pm

The funniest thing last night was watching Bernie Sanders during the “rebuttal” speech dance around a do his “Old man yells at Crowd” impression afterwards. If you turned the sound off it was hilarious.

Trump: I’ve discovered the cure for your mother’s cancer.
Modern Democrat Party: I’d rather see her dead than accept anything from you.

What’s the latest tally on lies he told last night, Elizabeth? Oh right- the ends justify the means.

One of many. He said he’s going to balance the budget.
“In the near future, I want to do what has not been done in 24 years: balance the federal budget. We are going to balance it,”

Should the Democrats have cheered that?

    Milhouse in reply to tjv1156. | March 5, 2025 at 7:22 pm

Where’s the lie? Whether he ends up balancing it or not, or even merely pretending to balance it as Clinton did, there’s no lie.

r, Trump claimed that there are 3.9 million people listed between the ages of 130 to 139 and 3.5 million people listed between the ages 140 to 149 who are receiving Social Security payments because they haven’t been recorded as deceased.

Should the Democrats have given him a standing ovation for that , Elizabeth.

Trump claimed that the Department of Government Efficiency, the initiative led by Elon Musk, has “found hundreds of billions of dollars” in fraud.

Should the Democrats have cheered that laughable lie. There was a time when you would be be held accountable for a blatant lie like that. But the MAGA rules are – ‘anything goes- my gullible cult believes anything I say”

    Milhouse in reply to tjv1156. | March 5, 2025 at 7:24 pm

There was a time when you would be be held accountable for a blatant lie like that.

    Really? When was that time?

    steves59 in reply to tjv1156. | March 5, 2025 at 7:49 pm

    Shut up, you idiot.

    irishgladiator63 in reply to tjv1156. | March 5, 2025 at 8:39 pm

Let’s say we play your stupid game..why didn’t they applaud any of the good stuff then?
Cause what I saw with my own two eyes was every democrat in Congress angry a young black child survived cancer and a young man was accepted into West Point. Why not applaud those things?
And why do you support them being upset a black child survived cancer?

You must have been asleep the past 50 years. Except in extremely rare cases, the opposition never cheers the other side.
they were probably sickened by the fact that the moron is crowing about cutting cancer research while parading this kid around.
And in general, they are probably sickened by the sight of a sex offender , fraudster and felon standing up there. A person with his criminal resume couldn’t get hired anywhere, yet there was standing up there lying about saving hundreds of billions and 140 year olds getting SS checks. Lie . Lie, Lie. and the closer- the MORON talking about transgender mice. Such a clown show

Why does tjv1156 remind me of a badly-ported ELIZA program?

    Azathoth in reply to tjv1156. | March 6, 2025 at 9:16 am

    Actually,

r, Trump claimed that there are 3.9 million people listed between the ages of 130 to 139 and 3.5 million people listed between the ages 140 to 149

He made no definitive statement as to whether or not these were receiving benefits.

    And this–

“Trump claimed that the Department of Government Efficiency, the initiative led by Elon Musk, has “found hundreds of billions of dollars” in fraud.”

    –is not a lie.

      tjv1156 in reply to Azathoth. | March 6, 2025 at 11:08 am

“hundreds of billions in fraud”They have ? where is the proof.? NOTE just saying you found it is not proof.

Trump: “Believe it or not, government databases list 4.7 million Social Security members from people aged 100 to 109 years old. It lists 3.6 million people from ages 110 to 119….3.47 million people from ages 120 to 129. 3.9 million people from ages 130 to 139. 3.5 million people from ages 140 to 149. And money is being paid to many of them.”

Well i guess you could take the weasel way out and say if 3 of those received checks, that is ‘many” ,but this is basically a straight up, intentional lie, directed at the goober cult who belive ANYThing ‘the moron’ says.

Add in some people making sounds like braying sheep, and you would think this was the British parliament.

paulscott in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | March 6, 2025 at 1:32 am

Actually nowhere near as bad as that. It’s all very British, “the Right Honourable Gentleman for Walthamstow may wish to check his facts” => you are a lying xxxx.

Democrats are the modern day version of the Russian Bolsheviks who took over Russia post WWI. Their plan was to make living in Russia so miserable that the people would demand a change in leadership and the Bolsheviks filled the void. Biden administration policies pushed in that direction with high inflation, fear in the future, unattainable energy policy, massive debt increases, etc etc.

    tjv1156 in reply to kjon. | March 6, 2025 at 11:14 am

so there is not going to be any debt since ‘the moron’ is President? ‘the moron’ said he’s going to balance the budget-you buy that?

      irishgladiator63 in reply to tjv1156. | March 6, 2025 at 11:27 am

The moron is no longer President. Trump is your President now. And Trump has been doing nothing but cutting expenses since day one. You’ve been crying about it. Will he actually balance a budget? Hopefully. But he’ll get closer than anyone else for decades. And every democrat will fight him tooth and nail every step of the way.

‘ will he balance the budget” ? NO. And he won’t come close. He just conned you rubes . HE said the same lie the first time and he exploded the debt and deficit. Same will happed here. BOOK IT. Geezus how many times you redhat goobers gonna fall for this conman’s bullshit?
Would it kill you rubes to do some homework?
