Bessent Promotes Hunter Biden IRS Whistlebowers at Treasury Department
The whistleblowers will also lead investigations into the IRS.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promoted the IRS employees who told everyone about the sweetheart deal Hunter Biden received to leadership roles in the Treasury Department.
Bessent decided to do something after meeting Gary Shapley and Joe Ziegler in person.
Bessent said on Fox Business:
The culture of being able to come forward when you see wrongdoing is a central part of our democracy. I saw these two fellows before the president’s address to Congress in Speaker Johnson’s office. They came over to me and said, “Sir, we’re still being harassed.” And I had been in touch with Senator Grassley about what was happening to them.
But seeing them in person really brought it home for me.
So I went and decided I would bring them into Treasury, give them a year to investigate the wrongdoing that’s going on at the IRS, and then they will go back in. Mr. Shapley will serve as the senior deputy for investigations and enforcement.
So we’ll have them in treasury. We’ll learn what’s been going on at the IRS. What’s been wrong? How could this Hunter Biden nonsense have happened, and we’re going to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone again, whether they’re Republicans, Democrats or independents.
JUST IN: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has promoted the Hunter Biden IRS whistleblowers to leadership roles at the Treasury Department.
They will be investigating IRS wrongdoing now. AMAZING decision.

The IRS whistleblowers wanted felony charges against Hunter for missing tax payments.
The DOJ said no.
Instead, the DOJ gave Hunter a sweetheart deal for not paying $2.2 million in taxes.
You know, FAIR SHARE or something.
The House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (D-MO) said in June 2023:
“Whistleblowers describe how the Biden Justice Department intervened and overstepped in a campaign to protect the son of Joe Biden by delaying, divulging, and denying an ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged tax crimes. The testimony shows tactics used by the Justice Department to delay the investigation long enough to reach the statute of limitations, evidence they divulged sensitive actions by the investigative team to Biden’s attorneys, and denied requests by the U.S. Attorney to bring charges against Biden.
“IRS employees who blew the whistle on this abuse were retaliated against, despite a commitment IRS Commissioner Werfel made before the Ways and Means Committee to uphold their legal protections. They were removed from this investigation after they responsibly worked through the chain of command to raise these concerns.
The DOJ denied any interference.
Shapley’s attorney, Mark Lytle, who used to work at the DOJ, challenged the DOJ’s position, reminding then-AG Merrick Garland that others corroborated his client’s statements.

This is a classic example of short term gain mentality, it often leads to disaster.
In an era where we are trying to eliminate political influence in government, I am not sure that promoting someone based on being a “whistleblower” is wise.
If the people have the skills, ability and deserve a promotion, that is okay.
I prefer promotions based on merit.
I would think that their act of whistleblowing indicates their character and commitment to the mission of their agency, certainly factors that are indicative of merit.
People that will step up and do what’s right rather than muddle along, hidden in the crowd are absolutely the kind of people you want in leadership positions.
While in principle I agree with you, I have also seen and witnessed so called “whistleblowers” who have screamed about something because of a perceived wrong against them. (ie lack of promotion, low performance scores, etc.) They were willing to go along until they felt wronged.
I am not saying that happened here.
As long as the promotions are based on their merit – including the whistle blowing – I am fine with it.
How about the service agents who protect Hunter Biden? Or should I say, the secret service agents who formerly protected him.
Good for them, hope they continue to open up the Sundowner files
