‘Warrior Culture’ Restored? Pentagon Drops DEI-Focused ‘Identity Months’

‘Warrior Culture’ Restored? Pentagon Drops DEI-Focused ‘Identity Months’

The Pentagon will no longer officially recognize events such as American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and other cultural observances previously listed.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the Pentagon will no longer recognize “identity months,” declaring them “dead” ahead of Black History Month. The new policy ends official support for observances such as Black History and Women’s History Month, aligning with efforts to refocus the military on its core mission. Service members may still participate privately.

The directive emphasized:

“Our unity and purpose are instrumental to meeting the Department’s warfighting mission. Efforts to divide the force — to put one group ahead of another — erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution.”

The Pentagon will no longer officially recognize events such as American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, and other cultural observances previously listed.

Another section of the directive states:

“Installations, units, and offices are encouraged to celebrate the valor and success of military heroes of all races, genders, and backgrounds as we restore our warrior culture and ethos. We are proud of our warriors and their history, but we will focus on the character of their service instead of their immutable characteristics.”

While DEI remains a key focus for the White House, President Trump has not entirely eliminated recognition of these months. He issued a proclamation honoring Black History Month.

From the Washington Examiner:

“Throughout our history, black Americans have been among our country’s most consequential leaders, shaping the cultural and political destiny of our Nation in profound ways. American heroes such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, Justice Clarence Thomas, and countless others represent what is best in America and her citizens,” Trump’s Friday proclamation said.

“Their achievements, which have monumentally advanced the tradition of equality under the law in our great country, continue to serve as an inspiration for all Americans,” the proclamation continued.

As Trump continues his anti-DEI overhaul, I am curious to see how his executive actions will shape the administration’s broader agenda.

Maybe they could replace these identity months with useful topics, like:
Rifle marksmanship month
Tank proficiency month
Gunnery competition month

Removing some admirals and generals might help.

Returning the military to its core competency of killing the bad guys 🤌

Replacing DEI helicopter pilots would be a good place to start.

I don’t think the problem is with DEI helo pilots. My daughter went through flight training and flew in combat, and it was harder for the women than for the men.

DEI rears its ugly head in the fact that the tower was understaffed, and no one was watching the clearance between the planes. I’ve been told that the FAA has been running their ATC classes well under capacity because they’ve had racial quotas to meet. If they can only meet 50% of a minority quota, they can’t fill up the class with non-minorities, because they wouldn’t be hiring the right percentage of minorities. Doing away with DEI quotas should allow the FAA to run full classes and hire the people they need.

Paula, what kind of brain dead moron would be against replacing DEI pilots everywhere? Many don’t know that United Airlines used DEI as a requirement for new pilots saying 50% of their new pilots would be hired using DEI. Since then I have not gotten on one of their planes.

Good, if it doesn’t contribute to the ability to kill people and break things, the military shouldn’t be doing it. Those are the two things they’re supposed to excel at.

Trump is wrong here. There should be no black history (nor capitalizing black per AP stylebook). Naming 4 stellar contributors to American history does not make ‘black history’ a real thing.
