Trump Speaks to Putin, Zelensky to Start Negotiations to End War

Trump assigned VP JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lead the negotiating delegation.

President Donald Trump announced he spoke to Russian Dictator President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to start negotiations to end the war.

I just hope Trump and no one in his administration believes anything Putin says because the man is evil. Trump wrote on Truth Social:

But first, as we both agreed, we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine. President Putin even used my very strong Campaign motto of, “COMMON SENSE.” We both believe very strongly in it. We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s Nations. We have also agreed to have our respective teams start negotiations immediately, and we will begin by calling President Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, to inform him of the conversation, something which I will be doing right now. I have asked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the CIA John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Ambassador and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, to lead the negotiations which, I feel strongly, will be successful. Millions of people have died in a War that would not have happened if I were President, but it did happen, so it must end. No more lives should be lost! I want to thank President Putin for his time and effort with respect to this call, and for the release, yesterday, of Marc Fogel, a wonderful man that I personally greeted last night at the White House. I believe this effort will lead to a successful conclusion, hopefully soon!

Trump said the men also spoke about the Middle East, energy, AI, and the dollar. They reminisced about the history between Russia and America, including WWII.

The Kremlin’s readout of the call added that Putin told Trump the resolution requires eliminating “the root causes of the conflict.”

I’m sitting here with clenched teeth because the root cause happened in February 2014 when Ukraine ousted Putin’s puppet, Viktor Yanukovych. Russia made it worse by annexing Crimea. Yeah, highly doubt that vote was totally clean and legit.

Putin invited Trump to visit Russia (please do not go…do not speak or meet him in his territory).

Trump published a shorter post with Zelensky, making me think the two men did not want to expose too much of their conversation due to Kremlin eyes:

I just spoke to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. The conversation went very well. He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE. We discussed a variety of topics having to do with the War, but mostly, the meeting that is being set up on Friday in Munich, where Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the Delegation. I am hopeful that the results of that meeting will be positive. It is time to stop this ridiculous War, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION. God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!

Zelensky published a slightly longer post on X:

I had a meaningful conversation with @POTUS. We long talked about opportunities to achieve peace, discussed our readiness to work together at the team level, and Ukraine’s technological capabilities—including drones and other advanced industries. I am grateful to President Trump for his interest in what we can accomplish together.

We also spoke about my discussion with @SecScottBessent and the preparation of a new document on security, economic cooperation, and resource partnership. President Trump shared details of his conversation with Putin.

No one wants peace more than Ukraine. Together with the U.S., we are charting our next steps to stop Russian aggression and ensure a lasting, reliable peace. As President Trump said, let’s get it done.

We agreed to maintain further contact and plan upcoming meetings.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Remember the Russians have been the posterchildren for paranoia for centuries. They refuse to understand that the whole world isn’t against them but they insist on making it personal.

It isn’t paranoia. Major invasions throughout history. Good grief. Tartar/Mongol. Napolean, Crimean War, Nazi Germany, USA fomented color revolution on border. Millions dead and beaucoup suffering over centuries. There is inside the border and outside…. outside is ” извне граница”. They understand that very well.

The US started the Ukraine-Russia War (USAID and CIA?) It didn’t have to happen.

Good grief? As if the Russian bolyar were lambs at the mercy of the world. By your account one might think America the evil empire.

Now tell the rest of the story.

Just keep in mind that to many on the left America WAS the evil empire and the CIA was evil incarnate.

But now that Trump is in office and appears to be ending never ending funding for the CIA and its subversive actions overseas via USAID slush funding suddenly those same lefties are now all for never ending CIA funding and subversion around the world 😂😂

You should look up which country, the US or USSR/Russia, has been involved in more foreign wars.

No, the US didn’t “start the war.” Muscovy did – and they’d have started earlier if not for Trump’s first term. Claiming it “didn’t have to happen” is nonsense – because you’re claiming that, somehow, the US forced Muscovy to invade.

Yes, Muscovy has been not only paranoid for centuries, it is strongly tied into an ethno-nationalist messianism that also goes back centuries. For centuries Muscovy has claimed that every bad thing that has ever happened to it was due to “black” or “foul winds” blowing from “the West,” usually in the form of some kind of Jewish-Masonic plot (although they tend to use a term for Jewish that rhymes with bike). In fact, the belief is so old and widespread that they actually have a portmanteau word that “Jewmason,” that is often used to simply describe whether or not one is Jewish (from a negative frame of reference).

They weren’t the only ones invaded over time. Sicily was FAR more invaded, and they didn’t develop the paranoia. Even the name “Russia” is taken from a land Muscovy conquered – not from actually ever having been Kyivan Rus’. And, yes, there is a difference.

The simple fact of the matter is that Putin and fellow kleptocrats in power have plenty of reasons to invade, and none of them have anything to do with any actual alleged “threats.” (I would argue the granting of autocephaly by the Ecumenical Patriarch played no small role). Muscovy has pursued a policy of genocide (in the legal sense, not the colloquial sense) in engaging in things like burning books in Ukrainian in conquered territories (as well as replacing public Ukrainian signage with “Russian” signage), kidnapping tens of thousands (by their own admission, possibly vastly more) of children and “settling” them with “loving ‘Russian’ families.” They are also, functionally, turning those children into Janissaries by enrolling them in quasi-militaristic programs quickly. These are all actions under the *legal* definition of genocide to qualify the Muscovite activity in Ukraine as genocide – the attempt to wipe out a culture.

This is why Putin’s “rambling” speech with Tucker Carlson was actually more than just meme fodder: he was publicly stating Muscovite propaganda as history in order to justify what they’re doing in Ukraine as merely a “spat within a family.”

Don’t get me wrong: yes, the US doing what it’s claiming it wants to do WILL promote more adventurism by Muscovy. Yes, more people will die in the long run. The answer, I’d argue, is for EUROPE to step up and do something about it. Big Daddy US can’t keep coming in and solving all their problems for them.

“I’m sitting here with clenched teeth because the root cause happened in February 2014 when Ukraine ousted Putin’s puppet, Viktor Yanukovych.”

Samantha Powers, Marie Yavanovich and the crew at the State Dept started the war by engineering a coup to through out Yanukovych who was elected violating American and International Law to do it. I think that was what Putin was referencing.

So the United States (USAID and the CIA) made Russia invade Ukraine?

docduracoat in reply to alaskabob. | February 13, 2025 at 9:39 am

The outlines of the peace have been plain from the since the failure of the Ukrainian spring offensive.
Russia is going to keep all or most of the areas it conquered.
Ukraine will give back the portion of Russia it has managed to conquer in exchange for some of the Russian held areas of Ukraine.
Prisoners will be exchanged with many russian prisoners refusing to return.
The Ukrainian children will be a sticking point.
Russia is depopulated and they need those children.

Off topic, but where is Bondi?
What is she not hitting
G back at these judges?

Seems ineffective and just hanging pictures

She was the first one confirmed and should have hit the floor running

Something is going to be worked out and I don’t believe either side will be very happy with it. One thing I would very much like first is Putin dead and gone. A better outcome for all can be had with him gone. May be replaced with another ‘Duginist’ but at least it’s not Putin.

mailman in reply to Whitewall. | February 12, 2025 at 5:29 pm

You know who will be happy with the end of the shooting?

Ukrainians and Russians that are being shot at.

That is the better outcome Ukrainians and Russians want. That’s actually the outcome rational adults want.

Probably why this didn’t cross your mind.

I just hope Trump and no one in his administration believes anything Putin says because the man is evil.

So is Zelensky for that matter. The names and places are different, but this conflict had all of the marking of another Iran-Iraq war – a war both sides deserved to lose.

If this particular Forever War is so important let the Europeans do the bulk of the funding for a change. Apart from the Ukrainians they are the ones with the most to lose if Putin triumphs.

If anything, Zelenski is pure evil and total POS!

I admire Putin for his persistent protection of Mother Russia from the evil NATO members!

NATO should have disappeared when the USSR broke up.

The West has consistently lied and have broken many promisses.

Putin is admirable impunity no way whatsoever. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the Ukraine war, that still doesn’t make Putin a good guy.

While NATO should have gone their separate ways after the dissolution of the Soviet empire, Putin isn’t protecting anyone from anything. The guy wants to re-establish the Russian Empire.

And Zelenski doesn’t have angelically pure leadership, either. Who does, really? But he was not the aggressor in this.

The West isn’t the only group that has lied consistently, friend. Broken promises across the board. Big time. It’s the way of the world.

While ending this war won’t cure inflation, it sure will help. It’s a key part of the upward pressure on global inflation which certainly impacts us at home. Getting this done sooner rather than later will serve Trump well on a variety of levels.

Also means Russian oil and gas is back on the menu…officially!

That and American gas and oil hitting the market will help bring prices down.

Wow. Just Wow.

Ukraine gets effed over by the Bidens, and suddenly Russia is the good guy.

“The Kremlin’s readout of the call added that Putin told Trump the resolution requires eliminating “the root causes of the conflict.”
Hey, nobody mentioned that we traded Obama for Marc Fogel!
Even more winning!

I would like this article better without the authors commentary. IJS

Zelensky will take the deal on the condition that his theft of aid and his now immense wealth be kept secret.

You say Putin is evil and not to believe a word he says. Would you care to pro vide any examples of evil he has committed or lies he has told?
