Over the weekend, we reported on the protests that have been taking place at Tesla showrooms and charging stations around the country in recent weeks, with left-wing activists upset with Elon Musk and DOGE marching and in some cases flipping off prospective buyers, yelling “f*** you!” and telling them “Don’t buy swasticars!”
Unfortunately, protesting is not the only thing the anti-Musk contingent is doing. Reports from the left coast noted that some California residents allegedly had notes, including one attached to a brick, left on their (non-Tesla) vehicles that read “no Nazis in America” and which also contained threats of an “open season” on anyone who didn’t sell or trade their Teslas by a certain date.
And in a further sign of how dangerously this is escalating amid Congressional Democrats using rhetoric viewed as inciteful, we learned Wednesday there has been a second violent incident at a Salem, Oregon Tesla dealership – which was the target of an alleged arsonist last month and which had gunshots fired into it this week:
Salem police and federal agents are investigating a shooting early Wednesday morning that damaged windows at the Tesla dealership in south Salem. The shooting is the second criminal incident at the dealership in just the past month, following a suspected vehicle arson and window damage on Jan. 20.Federal authorities are involved in both Salem cases, though investigators have not said whether they suspect the incidents were politically motivated.
The Salem Statesman Journal had more details on the damage suffered by the dealership in the latest incident:
The glass on the dealership’s two front doors was gone and three other windows also had damage. The dealership appeared to be closed Wednesday, although a Tesla driver was able to use one of the charging stations.
Strangely, some local news outlets including KGW are referring to the shooting incident as “vandalism”:
A Tesla dealership in Salem was vandalized Wednesday morning, about a month after a vehicle at the dealership was lit on fire.[…]This is the latest incident of vandalism at the dealership. On Jan. 20 around 3:45 a.m., police officers and firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle on fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish it. A window panel on the building was also broken.
KOIN 6 News has since updated its story to reflect that it was gunshots:
“Officers found the damage to be from gunshots,” a Salem Police Department spokesperson told KOIN 6 News. “The incident is an active investigation. No arrests have been made.”
One fed-up Tesla owner told KATU News that though she was not an Elon Musk fan threats and violence were not the way to express disagreement with public figures:
“It is very unfortunate that we live in these times that these things are happening,” Tesla car owner Sharon Monsivais said. “I recognized that Elon Musk is a very controversial figure, and I bought this car knowing that he was a controversial figure. I don’t agree with everything that he does and don’t like him quite frankly, but I wanted a environmentally friendly car. I think it’s sending the wrong message to shoot up a dealership that has nothing to do with presumably whatever their feelings are.”
Amen.
