President Trump on Sunday pledged swift and severe retaliation after the Colombian government blocked U.S. deportation flights over the weekend, objecting to the Trump administration’s use of military planes to carry out migrant deportations.
In a social media post, Mr. Trump announced several punitive measures against Colombia, including a 25% tariff on all Colombian imports to the U.S., set to increase to 50% after one week if the dispute remains unresolved.
Additionally, Trump revealed plans for a travel ban and “immediate visa revocation” targeting Colombian government officials and their associates. The measures also include visa sanctions for Colombian authorities and their families, as well as heightened customs inspections for travelers and cargo arriving from Colombia.
Here is his statement from TruthSocial in full:
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people. Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States, so I have directed my Administration to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures:
-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds.
-IEEPA Treasury, Banking and Financial Sanctions to be fully imposed.
These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!”
CBS has more:
Two U.S. officials told CBS News there were two Department of Defense planes with migrant deportees expected to land in Colombia on Sunday, after departing the San Diego area near the southern border. But those plans were scrapped overnight.
One of the U.S. officials said the plan was to deport roughly 80 Colombian migrants on each military plane.
“Colombia’s decision to block the U.S. deportation flights over the weekend is an early diplomatic setback for the Trump administration as it lays the foundation for its promised mass deportation campaign and crackdown on illegal immigration.”
X was swift to react with Governor Ron DeSantis and White House Press Secretary Karoline Levaitt calling out leaders in a warning:
Under the Biden admin, Marxist heads-of-state throughout our hemisphere had free rein to behave badly.
Those days are over… https://t.co/S6B5Yh2Bne

These decisive actions show that Trump is prepared to escalate the standoff, making it clear that any resistance to his administration’s immigration policies will come at a significant cost. It is a stark change from Biden’s weak White House. The ball is now in Colombia’s court, as the president seems intent on following through with his promised penalties unless the situation changes swiftly. Stay tuned, because it looks like coffee prices are about to rise.
UPDATE 3:05 P.M. EST
Trump and newly-nominated, Secretary of State Marco Rubio are in lock-step on this one, with sanctions already being written up according to administration sources.
Per source with knowledge, Trump’s team is drafting final documents for the president’s signature on all sanctions indicated against Colombia. Sec of State Rubio has already directed the cancelation of all visa appointments. Retaliatory process moving at “lightning speed,” I am…

Update: 3:30 P.M. EST
After all the bluster, Colombian President Gustavo Petro is backing down from his refusal to take back the deportation flights. According to a new letter he wants a “more dignified return” and is offering his presidential plane.
It appears the Colombian president may now be backing down. He is offering his own presidential plane to be used for the deportations that were rejected this morning – saying he wants a “dignified” return of Colombian citizens. pic.twitter.com/zRsPgr7Hzh

UPDATE 5:57 PM EST
Colombian President Gustavo Petro is now threatening to raise tariffs on the U.S. by 25% according to an English translation of an X post:
Le ordenó al ministro de comercio exterior elevar los aranceles de importaciones desde los EEUU en un 25%.
El ministerio debe ayudar a dirigir nuestra exportaciones a todo el mundo diferente a los EEUU. Nuestras exportaciones deben ampliarse. Invito a todas las comunidades… https://t.co/i8HSpRBxth

Somewhere in Columbia a moronic politician just shouted, “Doh!.
Are you referring to Columbia University? The country is “Colombia”.
Get a life.
Thanks; I already have one, which has taught me (among other things) what Latin Americans think of US citizens who can’t even spell the names of the countries that the US threatens so freely.
“Murica, dude. Yes, we are threatening a country which gleefully dispatched its sundry criminals northward, but first refuses, then demands “dignity” in returning said criminals.
Yeah, no.
Fair point. A little persnickety, but fair.
Your proffered rationale for offering a snide and unnecessary correction for an innocuous spelling error is unavailing.
Why should you or anyone else give a damn about foreigners’ perceptions due to spelling errors involving their country’s name?
Find other ways to non-obnoxiously attempt to demonstrate your self-perceived (yet, fallacious) sense of superiority.
Oh dear, are Latin Americans concerned about that? I’ll put that on the list of things I care deeply about.
Right behind dryer lint.
Well, no. When I clicked on the original link I was sure that Trump was somehow threatening a University with tariffs, and I was curious to find out how. So yeah, accuracy counts.
Fair point. A little persnickety, but fair.
*Thick German accent*
Do you sink grammar is a GAYME?!?!?
I read on a leftist site that Trump “hesitatingly replied” to the Columbian President. Sure didn’t sound like that to me. Trump and Rubio were very quick and decisive and the Socialist in Columbia just got acquainted with FAFO. Trump isn’t Joey Biden and the left in the US along with the world is finding out stamping your feet and screaming at the sky might have worked with Biden but Trump is just going to laugh at you.
Good grief — even the White House referred to “Colombia” as “Columbia”. EFE Noticias (of Spain) has called that out. See the last “X” post in this thread.
I was in Cartagena last year. Shirt store had a tourist shirt with the spelling Columbia on it. Looked at the tag – was made in China
He has got to make an example of them so other foreign nations will understand Trump is not messing around.
What you say is true. And I agree entirely with these sanctions. But I would add that by changing “The Gulf of Mexico” to “The Gulf of America” — a gratuitously (and stupidly) provocative act — Trump increased the likelihood that foreign nations will interpret these actions against Colombia in the worst possible way. E.g., as the actions of a loudmouthed bully who gets a rush out of being a jerk.
If Columbia can “rush out” the USA, they should do it. Nothing less will prove they are not just bluster.
It’s “Colombia”, not “Columbia”. At least until President Trump decides to change it.
I’ve noticed that we often have deviations between how we refer to a country in english, and in the native language.
Hell, Cristoforo Colombo is spelled “Christopher Columbus” in American English.
“Nippon” is “Japan”. “Zhong Guo” is “China”.
If we refer to “Columbian Drug Smugglers”, or “Colombian Gang Members”, we know what is being referred to.
They can all think whatever they want.
And it is now Gulf of America. Live with it. Other nations could always call it anything they wanted. In fact, in countries that don’t speak English (like all of central and south america) they have a whole different name for the gulf. Because that’s how nations and sovereignty and languages work. To us, it’s the Gulf of America. To everyone else, who cares? They can call it whatever they want, as they have always been able to do.
Live with it.
Trump, as well as those among his supporters who applaud his needlessly provocative actions, are going to find out that the rest of the world is increasingly unwilling to just “live with” them, and increasingly able to defy him.
Don’t you have some old sheets to gnaw on?
“Needlessly provocative.” Really? Needlessly?
The rest of the world has been sucking the lifeblood out of our country for decades, and the last 4 years have seen us transformed into the world’s doormat.. Its time they stop.
The “rest of the world” is run by leftists and globalists, which means cowards and vampires. I doubt defying America will enter their action plans
It’s as needlessly provocative as the Second Amendment… and for the same reasons. The best way to win a conflict is to make the other guy think long and hard before starting.
Okay, I’ll bite Just what will the “rest of the world” do?
Please, be specific and show your homework.
No, the “rest of the world” is finding out just what happens when the American people get well and truly pissed off. Trump is a reaction to the actions of the “rest of the world.” They’ve been emptying their prisons into the United States, ignoring our borders, and laughing even as they demand more from us.
“Provocative?” Trust me, sensitive soul, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
Why is it that US is ALWAYS expected to consider other countries and their “feelings” over our own interests?
The US has been supporting and is expected to kiss the ass of every nation on earth, to send our children to die in their scuffles, to provide protection with our military, to foot the bill for their infrastructure so they can have every feel good socialist program like “free” healthcare, and yet NOT think about ourselves for once.
increasingly able to defy him
Not so much, actually.
But I fully support their acts of sovereignty. As I fully support Trump’s acts reinforcing (or re-asserting) ours. Part of what he’s doing is pushing back on the woke diplomacy that has gone on post-WW2 of not offending the other states in the world.
When we refer to ourselves as ‘Americans’ the proggies want to correct us and say ‘No, you are ‘Norte Americanos’. Because the Central Americans and South Americans are Americans too. So what’s the problem with calling it the Gulf of America… we’re ALL Americans of some sort, right?
As I made very clear, the problem is the impression that the name change gives to other countries, rather than what I (moonmoth) think of the name change.
The impression that the USA is the strongest Nation in the neighborhood (in world actually) and that the majority of the public willingly chose as President a man who promised to wield that strength in pursuit of an agenda that is first and foremost beneficial to our Citizens and which puts other considerations a distant second would be accurate. In fact the public also provided him a legislative majority in the HoR and Senate to assist enacting that agenda.
The era of quiet diplomacy and the days where the USA felt constrained from acting decisively out of misplaced ‘guilt’ seem to have ended. Hopefully the Nations within the natural hegemony of the USA will come to terms with this quickly and peacefully.
Citizens of all those other countries are ‘Americans’ too, as I explained. So what’s the problem with the new, more inclusive, name?
A Quick Look at the map seems to show that the US has more coastline on the gulf of America than Mexico has.
Mexico is free to keep the old name on their maps if they wish, or if they want a tit for tat the gulf of California is ALL Mexican coastline, rename that to the gulf of Baja or Baja California.
Yeah, like we give a damn what a bunch of totalitarian mafias who all call themselves the People’s Republic of Someplace think about what WE name things.
No one cares what inconsequential Latin American countries think.. Just like no one cares that your commie friends don’t want to post on LI.
No. One. Cares. How can you fail to understand that? We elected a bull BECAUSE he would crash the china shop that you’re so deeply concerned about. To you impressions are everything. It’s like your brain operates on “bUt tHEy miGhT tHinK baDlY 0f uS!!1!”
The Gulf of America is absolutely fine, and if anything is more accurate.
And the downside to that is…?
Latin America has been treating our laws and our borders with the utmost disdain; no mas.
As if the US has treated Latin American borders and laws with scrupulous respect …
Oh please. America has tried to help Central and South America (because America wants nothing more than to do business with EVERYONE – as much business as possible) but they have had a thing about being leftist socialists (almost entirely) and destroying their own nations. They tended to bounce between leftists authoritarians and military juntas. This owes, mostly, to their descent from Spanish and Portuguese colonies … but, it is what it is.
America has always been prepared and happy to welcome any of those nations that wanted to straighten itself out and do business with us. They would be made rich in the process. But almost none of them wanted it.
America is the richest (and freest) country in human history. There are two countries on our border. One of them has great resources, beautiful land, a great climate, easy access to two oceans, tons of shore property … and the other is nice, but cold and not particularly inviting. Of these two, one is super-rich and the other is dirt poor, because one has long understood the benefit of trading with America while the other has spent every second trying to think of ways to pester and attack America.
Give me a friggin break on American treatment of latin american countries. We have tried our darndest to help them but they have demanded that they be allowed to be basket cases … and then they cry about it like you are doing.
Cry harder.
That’s true enough. Perhaps it would be wise for all concerned to recall how often the US Gov’t has abruptly altered existing National borders, created new Nations out of older ones and freely used its preeminent power diplomatic, economic and military when the US Gov’t decided a key National Interest of the USA was at stake.
No point in being the hemispheric hegemonic power if one doesn’t occasionally make use of the power. Especially after a long period of self imposed reluctance to do so seems to have caused some to forget which Nation holds that power. TR used the phrase ‘No better friend, no worse enemy’ and Trump is an admirer of TR and in some ways his successor. I would point out Trump also has a fondness for Andrew Jackson and no student of history would mistake ‘Old Hickory’ for someone overly concerned about elite opinion, world opinion or anything other than delivering results.
And the downside to [gratuitously provoking Latin American countries*] is…?
Among other things, causing them to draw closer to China, and to join the international movement to abandon the dollar as the international reserve currency. (Remember what the “B” stands for in BRICS.) China’s influence has already reached alarming levels in the Latin American country where I now serve as a missionary.
America has tried to help Central and South America (because America wants nothing more than to do business with EVERYONE …
I heard a different opinion about US activity and interests in Latin America when I served as a missionary 30 years ago in the part of Honduras that borders on Nicaragua. Until recently, the locality where I worked had been a base for the Contras’ raids into Nicaragua. For the first few months, the Hondurans assumed that I was Canadian (like the rest of the foreign missionaries in the local team). When the Hondurans found out that I’m from the US, things got tense. Only months before, in Tegucigalpa (the capital of Honduras), 50,000 people had demanded the expulsion of the US-backed Contras.
So? What are they going to do? Nothing, that’s what they are going to do.
What are they going to do?
How could you not knowm Among other things, they can draw closer to China, and join the movement to drop the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.
Both of which Latin America is already doing.
LOL.
Go ahead. Be under China’s boot. You’ll see how fun that is before very long.
ROFLMAO!
Because we had a mentally retarded cuck grifter as “POTUS” for the past four years. And for 8 of the 12 years before that we had an America-hating piece of shit who did everything he could to weaken our country as part of his ‘fundamental transformation.’
Watch and learn.
OK. Let them.
Those countries can enjoy the tender mercies of a Chinese “friendship” for a few years before they realize just how bad an idea that is. We’ll trade with the nations that are willing to respect our borders and clean up their own messes. Argentina and El Salvador are showing how it’s done, and the United States is joining them. Others will follow, because this isn’t a single-nation movement. Trump’s election is a sign of something far greater worldwide.
China, like many other countries, depends on the US buying their cheap crap made by slaves.
One must remember that Trump will quickly pull the rug out from under the Chinese through tariffs, forcing the US to begin manufacturing on our shores.
Like Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc al., they would still be backwater countries without our purchase of oil from them.
Shut off the money flow, and they’ll all be back to mushers and herding camels and elephants for transportation.
They should be watching how we respond to countries that flood our streets with criminal aliens and then throw a hissy fit when they’re repatriated. They need to stop encouraging this and they won’t be a target.
To be fair, the US elected (in theory) one addlepated crook who assured all of them that the new rules were now XYZ, then replaced him with a strongman patriot who told them that the rules had just gone back to ABC. Frankly, this deportation situation is far more our fault than theirs.
Otter: You f*d up, South America — you trusted us!
For example, the US pipeline companies are in exactly the same boat (albeit with W/L reversed). Are you going to convince me they are to blame for it?
Agreed, that is why I suggested dumping them in the ocean. That would be less dignified than them taking them.
Clearly, Trump 2.0 is far better prepared to bring the pain than 1.0.
This action was clearly prepared well in advance for and country that decided to play FAFO.
Good on ya, Mr. President.
The commie Colombian president has backed down. He has offered his presidential plane to shuttle deportees back to Colombia, saying that he wants them to be given dignified treatment, or something like that.
LOL.
But Colombia needs to understand that the US is no longer playing around with countries that are looking to harm us or our interests. America is strong and America has things that the world wants. Access to America can be shut off to those who think they can screw us over.
The Commie COlombian president is trying to save face by offering this ride only for these deportees, not committing to accepting his own people in future deportations. The tariffs and sanctions are probanly going to have to go forward.
Anna Navarro is trying to scare monger people by citing something about many flowers being imported from Colombia, as if a flower shortage (so she claims) is going to do damage to anyone. It’s kind of funny, actually. If only Colombia was a major exporter of Depends … then we could really have some laughs.
He better be ready to run this thing at our beck and call because the US does not need to wait on his schedule
It’s not like it’s a job Americans won’t do.
What? A flower shortage? Oh no! We must immediately reverse everything, put Joe Biden in office again, and pretend none of this ever happened. The very existence of the United States, nay, the entire world is at stake if we don’t take immediate and drastic action!
I saw a Democrat troll going on about that yesterday on another blog, and the little shithead just didn’t understand that people were laughing at him. He really thought that a possible “flower shortage” was a crisis.
The fun part is that a lot of these countries played “Mariel Boatlift” with Brain-dead Biden, unloading their prisons and sending the contents north, a big win/win for them.
Now the Colombian president is going to ferry them back on the presidential aircraft?
Wow. Talk about snakes on a plane.
These are the worst of the worst. They deserve a presidential charter.
Columba has sharks,.
The other countries are stupid enough to think they’re still dealing with the RINOs who want to just PRETEND that they’re doing something about illegals and would gladly cave the second any pressure was applied.
They’re finding out really quick that Trump is 100% committed to actually sending back the illegals that are here and is willing to crush any country that thinks they can keep sending them.
Columbia and the rest of the world understand that being locked out of the United States consumer market is a death blow to their economies.
That is the Trump doctrine that is so misunderstood that we are told by ignoramuses that tariffs will hurt the US citizen by starting trade wars blah blah….
It’s “Colombia”, not “Columbia”.
Doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t create a good impression when US citizens can’t even spell the names of the countries that the US threatens so freely. The days when the US needn’t pay attention to what the rest of the world thinks are over.
Oh are they? Which Nations in the hemisphere are going to challenge the US asserting its natural hegemony?
For.that matter the USA is entering a period where we don’t care what the rest of the world has to day. Heck a period where we will be more than happy for Europe to solve their own issues without our troops, our forward basing, our economic assistance.
Gonna get kind of cold in Europe without access to imported US liquid propane… unless y’all are.ready go back to kissing Russia’s ass to get theirs.
Actually, they were over long ago – we’ve spent decades playing the “We can’t insult them or imply they’re bad” game. Now we seem to be moving back to the “We’re the United States of America, first and foremost, and we’ll do what we believe is best regardless of whether or not it hurts your feelings.”
Now, going fully “might makes right” is not where we want to end up. But it’s where the left (including the globalists trying to turn the USA into a non-sovereign) has pushed things. We will have to re-assert dominance to get boundaries re-established before get to making things as they should be. Like telling your kid, “Because I said so” when all their questions are simply to try and force you into a loophole they can exploit.
You must be fun at parties.
So? It’s shameful that LI regulars can’t even spell the names of the countries that they’re delighted to see the US threatening.
You’re way off in the weeds here. Nobody cares, even Colombians. Not even you, because you just see it as a way to clutch your pearls over Trump’s justifiably alpha diplomacy.
Dipshit
We’ll compromise with you.
From now on, it’s the “District of Colombia.”
OK?
Dude, the consistency in misspelling means it’s probably autocorrect or predictive words on phones. Grow up.
At this point, I’m willing to do it just to piss you off.
Stop whining. Its unpleasant.
While I think a simple “It should be spelled ‘Colombia'” for the correction shouldn’t be slammed, you seem to have run with it right into “All you stupid gringos!” territory. And you cling to the sunk cost fallacy by getting a bigger shovel.
The fact is, that misspelling isn’t that big of a deal, and once you’d made your corrective point, you should have walked away. I don’t know if you’re always a concern troll like this, but several people seem to think you are, now.
We’re renaming their country. And while we’re at it we’re adding a “u” to Qatar.
I think the Columbian President is playing games. The Presidential jet is a 737 set up as a business jet with limited passenger capacity. Trump should just tell them to accept US military aircraft or else.
Colombian President
Threaten to change the official spelling of Colombia to Columbia.
Bah. Change the spelling from “Colombia” to “Target for Today”.
As an insult we could tattoo “Columbia” on their foreheads.
Why? Just to prove that the US is a binch of jerks?
“Binch?”
Misspelling words such as “bunch” by an LI regular is shameful and insulting to everyone who identifies as a “bunch.”
Uh, that’s “bunch”, not “binch”. Sauce for the goose, and all that.
In any event, a semantic examination of your statement indicates that you already believe that the United States is a “binch [sic] of jerks” and that some actions will only serve to prove that to the rest of the world. Congratulations. You have rendered yourself irrelevant.
Colombia exports our roses for the most part, it’s HUGE money make industry for Colombia ( next to cocaine of course)
So this was the 30 minute war of the roses
( wish I could take credit for that)
Roses? Arizona is standing by to eat their lunch. (Link elsewhere.)
Takin out the trash … gotta love all of the winning
No more flights. Send them home on a ship.
Convert a large container ship into a transport and sent thousands back with a single voyage. If any cruise ship is being sent to the breakers…. see if it can be rehabbed enough for the missions.
Fill it up with some booze for the trip home.
Trump can brag that he’s unwinding the Triangle Trade.
Airdrop, parachute extra?
Well, the dark combat humor in me says just fly the plane at 10,000 feet and release the criminal illegals out the door over the Presidential Palace.
The more civil part of me says good for Trump for taking decisive and strong action immediately. He set the example to the rest of South and Central America.
Now, what those countries choose to do with the criminals they originally foisted on us should not be our concern,
Oh, and an immediate 75% tax on all remittances going to these countries.
Oh, and an immediate 75% tax on all remittances going to these countries.
Depending on his authority to do so, yes.
Operation Wetback under Eisenhower used ships to return Mexicans. They were dropped off in Yucatan and Oaxaca.
The US Navy has a few mothballed Aircraft carriers at 32nd St in San Diego that could hold lots of returning countrymen.
Meanwhile there are violent flare ups in Colombia by the leftist terrorists ELN. Spicy time!
Gustavo wants to fly his plane into US airspace, so they can drop drugs over our borders. He could care less about these rotten Columbian apples.
No need to land our planes. We just need to buy some one time use
(one per passenger), fly to the country and open the back door before turning back. That ought to send a message.
^ one time use parachutes
Treat it like Spirit Airlines… parachutes are available, at an extra charge.
“Colombian President Gustavo Petro is now threatening to raise tariffs on the U.S. by 25%”
Do you like the classic cars in Cuba, Gustavo?
Because this is how you get your own classic cars, just like in Cuba.
“Colombian President Gustavo Petro is now threatening to raise tariffs on the U.S. by 25%”
Q: What do we get more of from Colombia than anywhere else?
A: Cocaine.
Coffee might be an issue but there are plenty of other sources for that. No worries though. Colombia very much needs the USA more than we need them. As an example we.send about $400 million +/- each year in aid and assistance including lots of military support/training.
FWIW Colombia total exports are about $60 Billion of which $16 Billion, just over 1/4, goes to the USA. Their imports are $70 Billion and about $20 Billion comes from the USA including refined petroleum (gas/diesel) corn, autos and medicine… things they can’t do without. The USA is far and away their most important trade partner. Any dumbass trade war Colombia chooses to start b/c of their refusal to receive back the deported criminal illegal aliens is going to hurt them way worse. Might even bring down their gov’t if it drags out. Oh well FAFO.
Maybe their president hasn’t thought the issue through.
I suspect the govt of Colombia (and many others) is still operating under the past framework where they could safely ignore the USA. Unfortunately for them they are going to be made an example for others if they persist in their folly. The fact is the USA is THE hegemonic power in our hemisphere. No one else comes anywhere close not even in combination. IOW we are entering a new phase where the USA is very willing to work cooperatively but has no hesitation in imposing consequences to achieve compliance if the desired cooperation isn’t forthcoming.
A C-130 can carry up to 128 combat troops. (source: https://www.af.mil/About-Us/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/1555054/c-130-hercules/)
A C-5 can carry 270 combat troops. (source: https://www.airplaneupdate.com/2019/04/lockheed-martin-c-5.html)
While there is some fudging and allowance for equipment in those planes, a Boeing 777 carries 385 people. (source: https://planenerd.com/passenger-capacity-of-boeing-777/)
Seems to me that the 777 would get more people out of the country faster.
So if the issue is the optics or military planes landing in a foreign country, the US can work within that structure.
The bottom line is to return criminals to their home country,
Screw their concern about optics.
Yes, but the Hague would claim putting the deportees in a Boeing instead of a Lockheed is a crime against humanity.
You are correct. But the C-130 and C-5 troop capabilities are based on the additional resources needed for combat. Without the combat load, the cargo compartment of a C-5 could add hundreds of seats.
They should create another photo op, with the “undocumented” lining up to get into the plane, except with parachute’s on their back.
The US is 100% correct about having the right to deport illegal immigrants. That’s absolutely clear, and no one can dispute it. There’s no need to do something stupid just to get a sick satisfaction of acting like jerks.
no body is being a jerk. They can self-deport the way they came in, or they can get a plane ride home. The plane ride home doesn’t have room for luggage, the inflight entertainment is at the rear of the plane and it happens towards the end of their flight. We don’t owe these non-taxing paying, non-law abiding scum anymore free rides.
Your reply is one long, straw-man argument. If you read my earliest posts on this article, you’ll see that I support deportation of illegal immigrants, and also the use of sanctions and tariffs to punish Colombia for not allowing the deportation flights to land. What I was referring to is your suggestion to create a photo-op with the deportees wearing parachutes. That’s beyond being a jerk; it’s positively sick.
If you really believe that then you should also be on board with requiring Colombia to accept its Citizens back. That’s all they needed to do. Instead the gov’t of Colombia chose a path of defiant belligerence and got tariffs and sanctions applied, with more to follow, until they act as a responsible hemisphere neighbor.
Finding Out is the natural consequence of FA not holding hands singing kumbaya. Delivering immediate and meaningful consequences for the failure of the Colombian gov’t to meet their obligations is very appropriate under the circumstances which they chose to create.
I made very clear, in my earliest posts on this article, that I’m coompletely on board with making Colombia take its citizens back. I’m appalled that regulars here are defending “DaddyO'” sick “photo-op” idea
Ok then. So long as we don’t use the occasion for a photo of you are on board?
I tend to agree there is no reason to be intentionally cruel but force is gonna be necessary to compel these illegals to submit to deportation and it appears as if force or at least stiff and escalating tariff/sanctions will be necessary to gain compliance with some Nations to meet their responsibilities to their own Citizens by welcoming them home.
IOW there will be eggs broken to make the omelet.
It’s interesting that you seem to have no issue with the idea that a country can actually REFUSE to take its own citizens in!!! I mean, how screwed up is that? There is absolutely no justification, of any sort, for ANY country to refuse its own citizens and that sort of INSANE behavior cannot be allowed.
But, for some reason you don’t have an issue with that. You are offended and incensed that someone might spell the name of the sh*thole country incorrectly and you think that the rest of the world should have power over how decide to name things but you don’t seem to have any issue with the totally ludicrous notion that a nation would not accept its own citizens onto its territory, for whatever reason. They are that country’s citizens!! That’s where they actually belong and the country is bound to accept there presence.
You really need to take a good, long look at your priorities.
“over how WE decide to name things”
It’s interesting that you seem to have no issue with a country refusing to take its own citizens in!
What’s really interesting is that you’ve either forgotten — or have chosen deliberately to ignore — my post (at 3:29 p.m. yesterday, in reply to the post that “Paula” made at 3:17 p.m.) in which I made clear that I support Trump’s use of sanctions to punish Colombia for not taking its citizens in.
Please note that you did read my comment of 3:29 p.m.; you replied to it at 3:47.
Good thing I don’t care what furriners think.
