Report: Border Patrol Recorded Only 582 Illegal Crossings on Sunday

Earlier Monday afternoon, cartel members fired at border patrol as illegal aliens attempted to cross the Rio Grande.

Fox News’s Bill Melugin discovered that the Border Patrol only recorded 583 illegal crossings on Sunday.

Melugin wrote on X:

NEW: Per sources, Border Patrol recorded just 582 illegal crossings at the southern border yesterday, with not a single one of the nine sectors hitting 200.

I’ve never seen anything this low in all of my border coverage. The numbers were already flat/low in Biden’s final week, bouncing between 1,200-1,400 illegal crossings daily, but the numbers have been falling off a cliff since Trump took office.

Last three days

January 24 – 665
January 25 – 731
January 26 – 582

To put this into perspective, at the height of the border crisis in December 2023, Border Patrol hit a record high 11,000+ illegal crossings across the border in a single day, with the Del Rio sector alone getting 4,000+.

I’m told there were 582 illegal crossings across the southern border yesterday, with only 60 happening in the Del Rio sector.

“And there are no longer 1,500+ migrants being released at ports of entry via the CBP One cell phone app every single day, as Trump immediately terminated the program,” added Melugin. “It’s still very early – we’ll see if these incredibly low numbers hold, especially heading into spring.”

Earlier Monday afternoon, cartel members fired at border patrol as illegal aliens attempted to cross the Rio Grande. From Fox News:

The gunfire exchange – which happened exactly one week after President Donald Trump began ramping up border security on his first day in office – occurred at around 2 p.m. local time near Fronton, Texas.

A group of illegal aliens was attempting to cross the Rio Grande while bullets were fired, but did not make it across. Neither the Border Patrol agents nor the suspected cartel members were hit.

President Trump recently designated Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

The area where the gunfire exchange took place is near Fronton Island, also unofficially known as “Cartel Island” due to the criminal activity there. In an interview with Fox News Digital in 2023, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham said that she declared the land as Texas territory – even though it had not officially been before – to grant law enforcement the right to patrol there.

This is Joe Biden’s legacy right here, the abdication of our sovereignty.

The new administration is doing a good job reversing the flow quickly. Once the border problem is fixed there are people that need to spend a very long time in prison for what they’ve done to this country.

Joe Biden is one of them.

So are border patrol officers allowed to fire back, preferably with lethal intent, when cartel members shoot at them? or do they just have to duck down and hope they aren't hit.

Definitely progress, but remember to put that number in perspective.

‘Only’ 582 in a day still means 212,430 in a year. Still way too many.

The only number that’s acceptable should be ZERO.

But good progress, lets keep the trend going.

True, but under Biden, every one of them would have been given a bus/plane ticket to the US interior and a court date five or six years in the future, if ever. These will be going back, with a lot of company.

Give it time. Everything is tracking in the right direction.

This is what winning feels like. Dang– it’s been a minute.

Compare and contrast… Wa state is introducing bills to decriminalize more crime.

Another thing about these border crossings is not only low numbers—but they’re setting a record for the shortest time spent in the US before being kicked out.

Handcuffed illegals talking on bus to Mexico:

1st Illegal: I’ve been in the US for 5 years. How about you?
2nd Illegal: I been in the US 5 months.
3rd Illegal: Uhhh, about 5 minutes.

I can’t wait until Air Force 1 flies into Chicago and holds a press conference as ICE visits all of those 1,000’s of Illinios “undocumented” citizens. He can hold a press conference and have JumBo Pritzker arrested, then say “Mission Accomplished”

I urge ICE to seek a 10:1 ratio. For everyone crossing in, ten must leave.
