Rep. Elise Stefanik, President Donald Trump’s pick for UN Ambassador, will answer questions from the Senate Foreign Relations committee.

The committee has some Democrats on it that could lead to outbursts.

Either way, we know Sen. John Fetterman will vote for her.

Another Democrat Vote?

It looks like it!

No money for Terrorism

Yes.

I think Stefanik will be #47’s Jeane Kirkpatrick. A tenacious pit bull, in the putrid den of inequity that is the utterly corrupt and disgraceful U.N.

It would have been better if Trump had withdrawn from that putrid organization and sent it packing.

Agreed, but, to the extent that the U.S. is going to participate in U.N. proceedings, we need an advocate who can speak blunt and unvarnished truth to the corrupt, anti-Israel and Islamophilic bureaucrats who run the U.N., as well as to many of its malignant member-states, and, Stefanik will be admirably suited to the task.

He may not be able to because our UN treaty obligations have been codified in US law when they were ratified by the Senate. He can unliterally pull out of things like the so-called ‘Paris Climate Accords’ because they were never ratified. But, depending on the language of the many treaties that have bound us to the UN, any withdraw from the treaty may be subject to judicial review.

Bills Introduced to Withdraw U.S. From UN,

        https://thenewamerican.com/us/politics/bills-introduced-to-withdraw-u-s-from-un/

Rumors have it that these bills to be reintroduced in the new Congress.

It is true that treaties, so long as they are in effect, have the status of US law; they rank equal with statutes, and inferior only to the constitution.

However, unlike statutes which are created by a majority in both houses of congress and the president’s signature, and can only be repealed by the same process, treaties, which are created by the president with 2/3 of the senate’s concurrence, can be abrogated by the president alone.

So Trump could simply abrogate the UN treaty and it would no longer be part of US law. I’m not convinced he should, but he has the power.

I don’t know whether you meant iniquity or were trying for a pun. If the latter, meh.

      guyjones in reply to Obie1. | January 21, 2025 at 5:20 pm

Spelling error — I had meant to write “iniquity, as in, a “den of iniquity,” which is what the wretched U.N. is fairly described as.

      guyjones in reply to Obie1. | January 21, 2025 at 5:35 pm

Lastly, what do you give a damn if I was making a pun? Even a bad one? If you feel the need to opine on that, you have too much spare time on your hands and an overly uptight attitude.

I think she will handle herself well.

Ahead of the times.

Years ago the Birch Society had a campaign to Get US Out of the UN with a tandem campaign to Get the UN Out of the USA,

I looked it up. This campaign continues,

https://jbs.org/un/

I don’t know how they knew of the UN’s evil ways but I have noticed that more and more don’t like the UN.

It’s interesting how many of these Senator’s seem to think the world has a right to America’s money and we have no right to say no. America is not obligated to do anything and the world should understand this.

I remember her glorious performance during the impeachment hearings.

The UN ain’t gonna know what hit ‘em!

Does it make me a bad person to hope Chris Murphy gets kicked by a mule or bitten by a rabid predator sooner sometime sooner rather than later? He & Schiff are locked in mortal combat for the title of biggest loser in the history of the US Senate.

I was just wondering what is it about Connecticut that they elect two senators who are bigger dicks than Schumer? Envy of NY and wanting to outdo anything they can do? Every time one of them opens his mouth and spews their bullshit I want to puke.

Wrathchilde in reply to TargaGTS. | January 21, 2025 at 5:45 pm

I’d prefer he be bit by a rabid raccoon. Not a predator, just a trash panda. (I’d feel bad for the raccoon, though)

Hopefully, she can guide us out to the UN and the UN off of our soil.

    Milhouse in reply to Gremlin1974. | January 22, 2025 at 3:18 am

That would be the president’s decision, not hers. Her job will be to use the UN for our interests as much as possible.

If she is successful at doing that, and the benefit we get from it is more than it costs us, then it would not be in our interest to leave it. If we’re not getting much of value from it, and don’t anticipate getting more in the future, then it’s just a waste of resources and we should get out.
