Liberals Katie Couric and Jessica Tarlov Agree Bussing Illegals to Blue Cities Was Effective Republican Strategy

“I thought that it was a stunt when they started busing migrants … to Martha’s Vineyard. It was the smartest thing they ever did”

Jessica Tarlov of FOX News recently appeared on Katie Couric’s ‘Next Question’ podcast, and one of the issues they discussed was how the busing of illegal immigrants to blue cities by Republican governors like Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas was an effective strategy.

They suggest that the Martha’s Vineyard moment was a turning point but that all of it was a way to let the country know how bad things were at the southern border.

The Daily Caller has details:

‘Smartest Thing They Ever Did’: Katie Couric, Jessica Tarlov Admit GOP Leaders Sending Migrants North Was Game Changer

Journalist Katie Couric and Democratic Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov credited Republican governors for their strategy of transporting illegal immigrants to northern states.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and former Republican Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey in 2022 sent illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. Tarlov, on “Next Question with Katie Couric,” described DeSantis’ decision to relocate migrants to Martha’s Vineyard as remarkably intelligent, while Couric shared that her Florida-based friend believed the move effectively raised awareness about immigration issues.

“On the immigration front, there was a tendency amongst Democrats, and especially Democrats who were discussing the issue, so people who do interviews or are part of the media, to minimize it over the first two and a half years when there were a lot of people coming in here,” Tarlov said. “And I thought that it was a stunt when they started busing migrants … to Martha’s Vineyard. It was the smartest thing they ever did.”

“Well, it’s interesting ’cause I have a friend who lives in Florida, and I said, ‘What did you think of Ron DeSantis and Greg Abbott taking some of these immigrants and moving them to northern states?’ And she said, ‘I thought it was great because nobody really was paying attention before that.’ And I do think that this untold story was the strain on social services and communities, particularly along the border, this huge influx of immigrants was having,” Couric responded. “And I think the mainstream media, however you define that these days, kind of ignored that story to its peril.”

Public perception of this issue has definitely shifted. Even New York City Mayor Eric Adams sat down this week with Trump’s ‘border czar’ Tom Homan. It’s difficult to imagine that happening a year ago.

I’d say it was a very common sense strategy. After all, they didn’t care because it didn’t directly affect them, so make it directly affect them.

Feel sorry for those that attribute life to strategy over things like right and wrong.

You know the old saw, a conservative is someone who’s been mugged by reality?

You could also say that a liberal is someone who’s finally figured out something long after it was perfectly obvious to a conservative.

Paraphrasing G.S. Patton: “Alinsky, you magnificent b@$t@rd! I read your (bleep) book!

Bussing them back to where they come from is the best strategy of all—other than not letting them in the country in the first place.

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

Only sent one bus…

It was actually two planes DeSantis sent to Martha’s Vineyard. That’s all it took to kick off the national reporting and ongoing national discussion. Then we got to see the national media forced to cover the story.

In real time we watched the ever so caring and
compassionate folks in Martha’s Vineyard come unglued.
When these folks were over running the budgets of border States and rural communities, crowding schools, driving up housing costs, overwhelming basic services elsewhere it was fine.

Not so fine when they showed up in Martha’s Vineyard. These folks got an overnight stay, had some cereal and then had the Governor use the National Guard to transport them to, (gasp) a State Military facility.

Everyone got to watch all that occur and suddenly the oh so virtuous folks in Martha’s Vineyard were explaining that ‘golly, they’re a small community without sufficient infrastructure or housing to accommodate an influx’. The lightbulb went off for anyone paying attention. The arguments about illegal immigration was about hypocrisy and ignoring the very real, very costly problems those illegal aliens bring with them…so long as it was confined to rural areas and border States it was out of sight and mind.

The impact was far larger than just two plane loads.

I thought it was a fools errand when Governor Abbott started bussing illegals north the NYC and Chicago.

Boy was I wrong. How many black and latino voters saw what was happening and decided to vote for Trump.

It is proof that east coast elites, media stars, and Dems in general absolutely do not care at all what happens to red state citizens. Not at all!

The impacts of illegal immigration were ignored for decades in liberal blue enclaves b/c they impacts were mostly on border States and rural communities. When illegal aliens began showing up in other places suddenly those places came to understand the costs they would bring and the negative impact. When the costs fell almost exclusively on icky rubes in Red States? Nah not so much.

Not much can top the media/PR coup of the National media broadcasting the wealthy Northern community of Martha’s Vineyard getting the Governor to use the National Guard to ‘deport’ the few dozen aliens that got flown in by FL to a State Military Facility. Priceless and incredibly effective in demonstrating their hypocrisy.
