Amid the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in northern Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a two-day raid on a ‘hospital’ doubling as a key Hamas command center in the area. The military arrested over 240 terrorists, including 15 who took part in the October 7 massacre.
Terrorists rounded up from the Hamas-infested hospital “included members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), as well as 15 individuals implicated in the October 7 attacks on Israel,” the Israeli news website YNET reported Friday.
Some of the terrorists tried to avoid capture by posing as patients or using ambulances for their escape. “During the operation in the area, over 240 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists and other operatives suspected of terror activities were apprehended, some of whom attempted to pose as patients or flee using ambulances,” the IDF said in a statement Friday.
“Among the suspects taken for questioning was the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, who is suspected of being a Hamas terrorist operative, as well as Hamas engineering and anti-tank missile operatives, and approximately 15 terrorists who infiltrated Israel during the October 7th Massacre,” the military added.
The Hamas-controlled hospital was aptly named after Palestinian terrorist Kamal Adwan, a mastermind of the Black September Organization responsible for the 1972 Munich Olympics Massacre. According to the IDF statement, Hamas was “using the Kamal Adwan Hospital as a command center for its military operations in Jabaliya,” a terrorist stronghold in northern Gaza.
The operation was led by IDF’s Shayetet 13, also referred to as Israel’s Navy SEALs. They neutralized several terrorists and uncovered explosives and heavy weaponry from the supposed medical facility. “Shayetet 13 special forces conducted precise activities inside the hospital and located and confiscated weapons in the area, including grenades, guns, munitions, and military equipment,” the military disclosed. “During IDF operations next to the hospital, terrorists fired anti-tank missiles and RPGs at the troops and attempted to carry out additional attacks against the troops.”
While Hamas placed civilians in harm’s way by setting up its key operations base inside the hospital, the IDF evacuated the facility and delivered fuel and medical supplies as part of the operation.
“Prior to the beginning of the targeted operation, 350 patients, as well as caregivers and medical personnel, were evacuated from the Kamal Adwan Hospital,” the IDF assured. “Tens of thousands of liters of fuel, food, and medical supplies for the essential functioning of the hospital were also delivered to the Kamal Adwan Hospital over this period.”
“During the course of the targeted operation, an additional 95 patients, caregivers, and medical personnel were evacuated to” another hospital and were supplied with “5,000 liters of fuel, two generators, and medical equipment were delivered,” the military added.
Despite Israeli soldiers risking their lives to protect Gaza civilians, the mainstream media ran with Hamas’ narrative, portraying the IDF operation as an ‘attack’ on the hospital. This is not the first time big media outlets have sided with Hamas terrorists during the ongoing conflict. In March 2024, media cried foul when Israeli special forces raided the Hamas operations base in Gaza’s Shifa hospital, which led to the capture of hundreds of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) terrorists.
The use of hospitals, schools, and other public buildings as bases for terrorist operations is a deliberate strategy deployed by Hamas.
“The large number of terrorists found near this key medical facility once again illustrates how Hamas has used hospitals as part of its plan to continue to control Gaza. This is now just a coincidence,” Israeli defense analyst Seth J. Frantzman wrote in the Jerusalem Post Sunday. “Hamas also used the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City and other medical facilities. Hamas views hospitals and schools as key elements in its command and control of Gaza.”
A Palestinian news outlet reportedly identified Kamal Adwan hospital as a Hamas ‘military’ facility, referring to its director by his ‘army rank’ — suggesting its formal induction into Gaza-based terrorist infrastructure:
Hamas returned to the hospital despite previous IDF operations to flush terrorists out the facility, The Times of Israel reported:
The Israel Defense Forces, which last operated against Hamas at Kamal Adwan in October, said the operation was launched because the hospital had “once again become a key stronghold for terrorist organizations and continues to be used as a hideout for terrorist operatives.”The army said the hospital was still used by Hamas “despite repeated calls to refrain from allowing [terror operatives] to exploit hospitals for military activities.”The operation was led by the IDF’s 162nd Division. At the start of the raid, the IDF said troops of the 401st Armored Brigade surrounded the hospital, detained several terror operatives, and killed additional gunmen. (…)Among those detained was the director of Kamal Adwan, Hussam Abu Safiya, who the IDF said is suspected of being a Hamas operative. (…)At least 15 of those arrested at the hospital and the surrounding area participated in the October 7 onslaught, according to the military. Several members of Hamas’s engineering and anti-tank forces were also arrested in the operation. The suspects were questioned by field interrogators from the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 and the Shin Bet security agency. The IDF said many admitted to interrogators that they had participated in “terror activity” in the hospital area.
