President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Mehmet Oz to serve as the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Oz lost the Pennsylvania senate race to Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) in 2022.

“America is facing a Healthcare Crisis, and there may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again,” said Trump. “He is an eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator, who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake.”

CMS works with state governments to administer Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the Health Insurance Marketplace. It also works with people through Medicare.

“Our broken Healthcare System harms everyday Americans, and crushes our Country’s budget,” continued Trump. “Dr. Oz will be a leader in incentivizing Disease Prevention, so we get the best results in the World for every dollar we spend on Healthcare in our Great Country. He will also cut waste and fraud within our Country’s most expensive Government Agency, which is a third of our Nation’s Healthcare spend, and a quarter of our entire National Budget.”

Will he be good? This is the first Trump pick I have doubts about

CMS is a really complex regulatory beast that is tough to change or fix and is subject to lots of fraud and needs some bold overhaul but if you mess it up you lose the senior vote.

Would love to see him succeed at it so I am rooting for him – but he feels like someone who could be rolled by the sharks in DC or at best delivers a “modest improvement” kind of pick that the health industry will feel comfortable with.

Maybe that’s the plan – safe, popular, modest improvement and let RFK Jr do the bomb throwing

Well, at least we know his makeup will be done well for the lighting, etc.

Is he really good enough? This smells a lot like a consolation prize. Medicaid and Obamacare need some serious overhauling. It’s a job that calls for an ass-kicking administrator, not a dilettante.

Anyone else think that maybe we have way too many agencies?

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
