Aziz Salha, Perparator of 2000 Ramallah Lynching, Eliminated by IDF in Gaza

Aziz Salha, the Palestinian terrorist who rose to infamy for waving his blood-stained hands after lynching two Israeli soldiers in 2000, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed Thursday.

“Aziz Salha, one of the perpetrators of the Ramallah lynching in 2000, was killed in an IAF strike in central Gaza,” the Jerusalem Post reported, citing military sources.

An Israeli court convicted Salha for lynching the two IDF reservists, and he was later released in exchange for the captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. The convicted murderer was taking part in Hamas’s terrorist operations when an Israeli strike killed him. “Salha was involved in terrorist activity in Judea and Samaria and remained involved in Hamas terrorist activities.,” the IDF said in a statement on X.

The gruesome Ramallah Lynching occurred on October 12, 2000, when two IDF reservists took a wrong turn on the way to their base and ended up in a Palestinian-controlled area.

First Corporal Yosef Avrahami and First Sargent Vadim Norzhich, both aged 33, mistakenly entered the Palestinian city of Ramallah and were arrested by the local police. The two men were dragged to the Ramallah police headquarters, where they were beaten and killed by a frenzied mob amid the chants of “Allahu Akbar.”

“At the same time, the guy that looked like a soldier was being beaten and the crowd was getting angrier and angrier, shouting ‘Allah akbar’ – God is great. They were dragging the dead man around the street like a cat toying with a mouse,” recalled a British photographer who witnessed the killings.

“It was murder of the most barbaric kind. When I think about it, I see that man’s head, all smashed. I know that I’ll have nightmares for the rest of my life,” he said in his account published in London’s Sunday Times.

A “mob of Palestinians stormed the building and tortured the soldiers to death, mutilating and defiling their bodies beyond recognition,” an official Israeli report later noted.

The most enduring image of the incident was that of Salha, who waved his bloodied hands at the cheering crowd from the police station window.

According to the Israeli civil rights organisation Shurat HaDin, Salha “repeatedly stabbed the dying Corporal Vadim Nurzhitz and threw his body from the window. Aziz [Salha], one of the leading perpetrators of the lynch [sic] in Ramallah, was not satisfied with the brutal murder. The bodies were then abused for hours to joyous reactions from the incited mob of supporters in the street.”

Syria: Israeli airstrike destroys Iranian weapons depot near Russian airbase

Israeli fighter jets reportedly targeted an Iranian weapons depot near a Russian airbase in Syria. Hezbollah-linked arsenal was hit by some 30 Israeli missiles, causing huge blasts and secondary explosions near the Russian-run Khmeimim Airbase in the Syrian port city of Lattakia, news reports suggest Thursday.

Russian armed forces, along with Iran’s Islamic Guards (IRGC) and terrorist militia Hezbollah, have fought to keep dictator Bashar al-Assad in power during the Syrian civil war. Russia and Iran have since deepened their military cooperation, with Tehran supplying Moscow with drones and other weaponry in the ongoing Ukraine war.

Iran may have been using the Russian airbase to deliver weapons to Hezbollah, the British newspaper Telegraph reported:

Israel is suspected of launching missiles overnight into Syria, striking close to a Russian air base believed to house weapons for Iran.

Up to 30 missiles were said to have targeted an area near to Khmeimim air base, near the coastal city of Latakia, triggering a series of huge explosions.

Video footage showed streaks of bright orange light in the night sky, as air defences attempted to intercept the missiles. A huge blaze could be seen for miles close to Khmeimim.

There also appeared to be secondary explosions, suggesting that weapons or munitions had been hit.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Russian and Syrian air defences attempted to intercept missiles for at least 40 minutes in Latakia. (…)

It is not yet clear what damage has been done to either the base or the surrounding area. (…)

There was no immediate comment from Israel, which frequently hits targets linked to Iran or its proxy militias in Syria, but rarely claims such strikes.

Michael Horowitz, a geopolitical expert and former IDF soldier, said that in the past Iranian planes have used Khmeimim to deliver weapon shipments to Hezbollah.

“Israel is bound to launch airstrikes against any Syrian airport that lets Iranian planes in. Tehran probably thought its best shot was to use Khmeimim because of the Russian presence,” he told The Telegraph.

Israel hits Hezbollah terror targets in Lebanon

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) on Thursday carried out several strikes in the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahieh located in southern Beirut.

“The multi-storey block in Bachoura housed a Hezbollah-affiliated health centre, which Israel’s military said was hit in a “precision” attack,” the BBC reported Tuesday afternoon. “There were five other air strikes overnight against targets in the southern suburb of Dahieh.”

Israel also continued operations in southern Lebanon, hitting Hezbollah’s terrorist fighting force and military capabilities. “Overnight, the IAF precisely struck the Bint Jbeil municipality building in which Hezbollah terrorists were operating, alongside large quantities of Hezbollah weapons stored in the building. As part of the strike, approximately 15 Hezbollah terrorists were eliminated,” the IDF said in a press release Sunday.

“The IAF, with the direction of the IDF Northern Command, struck approximately 200 Hezbollah terrorist targets in Lebanese territory, including terrorist infrastructure sites, terrorists, weapons storage facilities, observation posts, and additional terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon,” the military added.
