Taylor Swift Concerts in Austria Canceled After Alleged ISIS Terror Plot

Taylor Swift canceled her concerts in Vienna, Austria, after officials arrested two men for allegedly planning terrorist attacks at her shows.

The “Cruel Summer” singer was scheduled to perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday as part of her “Eras Tour” at Ernst Happel Stadium.
Event organizer Barracuda Music shared on Instagram that “we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”
Swift’s website shared that all tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.
“Taylor Swift, the Eras Tour Vienna shows canceled due to government officials confirmation of planned terrorist attack,” Barracuda wrote Wednesday on Instagram. “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety.”
Austrian officials are still looking for additional people who might know about the alleged plot.

One of the men who were arrested by Austrian federal and state police was a 19-year-old who is alleged to have pledged his allegiance to ISIS, Vienna State Police Director Franz Ruf and Police Chief Gerhard Pürstl said at a news conference Wednesday.
The pair had aspirational plans for attacking Vienna’s major events sites and specifically had homed in on this coming weekend’s Swift concerts, according to two U.S. officials briefed on the matter. They both became radicalized through the internet and are alleged to have had specific and detailed plans for how to carry out an attack, the officials said.
They had been under surveillance for some time and were well-known to the Austrians, the officials said.
Authorities found chemical substances when they arrested the 19-year-old. They do not know yet if he planned to use the material to make a bomb.
However, they said the man did not have all the necessary materials to make a bomb. He likely would have been able to build one in time for the weekend concerts.
Authorities also said they believe the men wanted to attack the event, not Swift directly.

It will be interesting to see what Taylor Swift’s reaction will be. But pop stars and Hollywood celebrities tend to react limply before politically-favored groups such as Islamofascists.
And to be fair: what can she do? If Swift did decide to kick up a fuss (verbally speaking) she would not get much support from her celebrity pals.
