NYT: IDF May Be Forced To Accept Ceasefire Leaving Hamas In Power Because Running Low On Munitions

Prime Minister Netanyahu: “We will end the war only after we have achieved all of its goals, including the elimination of Hamas and the release of all our hostages.”

With President Joe Biden’s administration holding back shipment of key ammunition, the Israeli military planners could be forced to accept a ceasefire in Gaza even if it keeps the terrorist group Hamas in power, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

“Israeli Generals, Low on Munitions, Want a Truce in Gaza,” the NYT noted in the headline.

The revelation comes weeks after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed that the Biden White House was withholding critical weapons and ammunition from Israel amid the ongoing war with Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli prime minister disclosed in late June that “four months ago, there was a dramatic decrease in the munitions coming to Israel from the US. For long weeks, we turned to our American friends and requested that the shipments be expedited.”

The NYT reported, citing Israeli military sources:

Israel’s top generals want to begin a cease-fire in Gaza even if it keeps Hamas in power for the time being, widening a rift between the military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has opposed a truce that would allow Hamas to survive the war.

The generals think that a truce would be the best way of freeing the roughly 120 Israelis still held, both dead and alive, in Gaza, according to interviews with six current and former security officials.

Underequipped for further fighting after Israel’s longest war in decades, the generals also think their forces need time to recuperate in case a land war breaks out against Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia that has been locked in a low-level fight with Israel since October, multiple officials said.

A truce with Hamas could also make it easier to reach a deal with Hezbollah, according to the officials, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive security matters. Hezbollah has said it will continue to strike northern Israel until Israel stops fighting in the Gaza Strip.

Known collectively as the General Staff Forum, Israel’s military leadership is formed from roughly 30 senior generals, including the military chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the commanders of the army, air force and navy, and the head of military intelligence.

Rejecting the claims made in the NYT article, Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to continue the fight until the destruction of Hamas’s terrorist force in Gaza. “We will end the war only after we have achieved all of its goals, including the elimination of Hamas and the release of all our hostages,” he declared.

The Times of Israel reported:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasts “anonymous sources” in the IDF quoted telling The New York Times that Israel’s military leadership wants a ceasefire in Gaza even if it leaves Hamas in power for the time being.

“I don’t know who those unnamed parties are, but I’m here to make it unequivocally clear: It won’t happen,” says Netanyahu in a statement released by his office. “We will end the war only after we have achieved all of its goals, including the elimination of Hamas and the release of all our hostages.”

IDF Gaza operation update

In a bid to stop Hamas from regrouping amid an ongoing operation in the southern terror stronghold of Rafah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday launched a counter-terrorism raid in the northern Gaza town of Shejaiya. After 5 days of fighting, the military eliminated a large number of terrorists and destroyed Hamas’ weapons and terrorist infrastructure.

“IDF troops continue operational activity in the area of Shejaiya,” the military said in a press release Tuesday. “An IAF aircraft, in cooperation with ground troops, conducted strikes during which terrorists were eliminated and dozens of terrorist infrastructure sites above and below ground were dismantled, including tunnel shafts, weapons storage facilities, and a structure from which an anti-tank missile was fired at the troops.”

The IDF is planning to create terrorist-free zones in northern Gaza to prevent Hamas from rearing its ugly head again in the areas liberated from the terror group, the Times of Israel reported Tuesday:

An Israeli military pilot to create “humanitarian enclaves” for Gazan civilians unaffiliated with Hamas is reportedly set to be rolled out in two northern Gaza cities, though some officials are skeptical the plan will point the way to a new reality in the battered enclave.

The plan to carve out Hamas-free “bubbles,” where local Palestinians would slowly take over aid distribution responsibilities, will initially be implemented in Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia, the Financial Times reported on Monday.

The scheme, which would dovetail with a post-war plan to hand aspects of control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority and moderate Arab states, has reportedly been met with skepticism by anonymous former officials and others familiar with the plans.

After taking around 70 percent of Rafah, the Israeli military continues to keep up the pressure on Hamas’s fighting forces in the terror stronghold.

“In the area of Rafah, IDF troops identified and ambushed an armed terrorist squad advancing in a vehicle toward them,” the IDF press release revealed. “The troops fired at the terrorists and eliminated them. In addition, the IAF struck and dismantled several terrorist infrastructure sites in the area over the past day.”

“Furthermore, the IAF struck approximately 30 terror targets, including weapons storage facilities, terrorist infrastructure sites, and Hamas military structures over the past day,” the IDF added.

Iranian general says regime waiting to carry out another direct missile strike on Israel

After President Joe Biden’s fiasco at the recent debate raised serious doubts about his cognitive and physical capabilities, the Iranian regime is becoming even more unhinged in its hostile rhetoric towards Israel.

Days after Tehran openly threatened the Jewish State with a “war of annihilation,” a senior Iranian general claims that the regime is waiting to launch another direct missile strike similar to the one in April that saw hundreds of Iranian drones, rockets, and ballistic missiles fired at Israel.

“We are hopeful of the arrival of the opportunity for [conducting] Operation True Promise 2,” Iran’s Islamic Guards (IRGC) aerospace chief, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, warned, referring to the massive Iranian aerial strike on Israel two and a half months ago.

The Times of Israel reported:

A senior Iranian military commander said that the country is waiting for a chance to launch another direct attack on Israel as a follow-up to a barrage of hundreds of missiles and drones it fired in April, Iranian media reported Tuesday.

Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh made the remarks the day before in Tehran when he met with family members of people killed in the Gaza Strip during the ongoing war there between Israel and the terror group Hamas. It was not clear from the report if the families he met were themselves from Gaza.

“We are hopeful of the arrival of the opportunity for [conducting] Operation True Promise 2,” Hajizadeh said, according to the Mehr News Agency, referring to the title of the April attack.

Hajizadeh said he did not know how many missiles would be used in a second attack.

In other quotes reported by the Tasnim news agency, Hajizadeh said, “As it is obvious from the weapons of our dear ones in Palestine, Lebanon and elsewhere, it has now become clear that they are in fact being helped and supplied by Iran.”

He also boasted of Iranian attacks on US interests in the region, including shooting down surveillance drones and a 2020 barrage of rockets it fired at US bases in Iraq as revenge for the assassination of Major General Qasem Soleimani in a US drone strike.

Hajizadeh, who was a close associate of the slain terror mastermind Qassem Soleimani, also boasted of hitting U.S. military bases in the Middle East. In 2023, Hajizadeh threatened to murder President Donald Trump and senior members of his administration. “By the will of Allah, we are looking to kill Trump,” the IRGC terror commander said.

The threat comes as the Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group has intensified cross-border rocket attacks on Israel. Fearful of an Israeli military response against Hezbollah, Iran has vowed to launch a multi-pronged attack on Israel using its proxy terrorist forces spread across the Middle East.

Mother of rescued Israeli hostage Noa Argamani, dies of cancer

The mother of the former Israeli hostage, Noa Argamani, died on Tuesday after a long sickness, local media reports say. 61-year-old Liora Argamani, Noa’s mothers, pleaded in video messages for the safe return of her daughter despite battling for her own life at an advanced stage of cancer.

A daring raid by Israeli security forces in early June reunited Noa with her mother in her dying weeks after 245 days of captivity.

The Jerusalem Post reported:

Mother of rescued hostage Noa Argamani, Liora Argamani, passed away at the age of 61 after a long battle with brain cancer, Israeli media reported on Tuesday morning.

Her death was officially announced by Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. “The family has requested that their privacy be respected during these difficult times,” the hospital said.

Liora spent her last days with her rescued daughter, who was saved last month by the IDF in Operation Arnon.

The Hostages Families Forums released a statement expressing their condolences, saying, “The families’ headquarters mourn deeply the passing of Liora Argamani, the mother of the released captive, Noa Argamani.”

Since her daughter’s violent kidnapping, Liora Argamani continually advocated for the safe return of Noa and the other hostages. She did this while suffering from brain cancer, which is often accompanied by headaches, seizures, persistent nausea, and drowsiness, as well as cognitive symptoms such as possible mental degradation and progressive weakness or paralysis on at least one side of the body, according to the British National Health Service (NHS.)

Biden and his Hamasholes thoroughly disgust me.

They are tacitly, no, directly, supporting Hamas by their actions.

Biden’s Iran buddies must be smiling.

Fuck Joe Biden and the entire Democratic Party!

israel needs to go medieval on Hamas and stop holding back.

A democrat party now actively supporting Iran’s regime and hamas

    JohnSmith100 in reply to Joe-dallas. | July 2, 2024 at 2:38 pm

What is ironic is that Dems are pushing Israel towards using what they call their doomsday defense. I am watching several Israeli news sources, there are many references to their doomsday defense.

There are also other options, such as Napalm, I can think of many other really nasty things, I am sure they can also do so.

      Dimsdale in reply to JohnSmith100. | July 3, 2024 at 9:44 am

Then the leftists Hamasholes get to say “See! Genocide! We told you so!”

Filthy terrorists and their supporters. FJB.

Not for one moment do I believe they are running out of ammo. Considering how much arms brokering they do, it should not be a problem. Thank you NY Slime for promoting more BS.

TargaGTS in reply to MarkSmith. | July 2, 2024 at 11:37 am

Yes, they probably have an adequate supply of ammunition, although because of the protracted war in Ukraine, certain kinds of ammunition are becoming more difficult to source, like 155-Howitzer rounds, even for us.

But, ‘munitions’ is an encompassing term. To whatever extent this NYT’s article is accurate, it’s likely the part that is addressing air ordnance, specifically the GBU-31 JDAM kit. This is the kit that Israel uses to turn their ‘dumb bombs’ into smart bombs. These kits (as well as other completed JDAM variants) are exclusively sourced through the US and it’s these kits that Biden/Blinkin are keeping from Israel even though Congress has allocated and REQUIRED those munitions be delivered.

Finishing the war against Gaza and then tackling the Hamas problem is going to require a significant and continual supply of JDAMs, and a few other critical munitions, like Patriot & Iron Dome missiles.

Andy in reply to TargaGTS. | July 2, 2024 at 1:25 pm

      It’s a psy-op.

Using the media to portray an image they need the world to believe.

TargaGTS in reply to Andy. | July 2, 2024 at 2:15 pm

It’s not a psy-op. It’s mathematics. Israel has used an insane number of JDAMs. How many? 6,000 in the first week of the Gaza war alone. How many is that? During the 2nd Battle of Fallujah (the most intense urban fighting for the US since ‘Nam), the 3rd Marine Air Wing dropped less than 400 JDAMs, in total. In fact, 6K is more than the US ordered and built in 2022…for the entire year. Even though we’ve been continually supplying Israel with PGMs since the war broke out, their reserve stockpile has dwindled because their deployment rate is so incredibly high. When Biden ‘paused’ the delivery of additional PGM shipments back in May, that has caused the Israeli reserve stockpile to shrink even more. This is why Republicans in the House & Senate are having a fit.

Also, a picture of Israel running out of munitions and missiles in the face of an emboldened Hezbollah doesn’t serve Israel in any way possible.

          JohnSmith100 in reply to TargaGTS. | July 2, 2024 at 2:51 pm

One thing is certain, Dems are causing our munitions manufacturers are going to be severely hurt by this. Now Israel will make damn sure they are not in the same position in the future.

Dean Robinson in reply to TargaGTS. | July 3, 2024 at 11:09 pm

The reason JDAMs are employed is often to limit collateral damage. Dumber bombs work just fine if you use enough of them, and they are much more plentiful and cheaper by far.

With President Joe Biden’s administration holding back shipment of key ammunition, the Israeli military planners could be forced to accept a ceasefire in Gaza even if it keeps the terrorist group Hamas in power, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

I don’t know if this is accurate – this is the NYT, after all – but it is probably no longer wise to rely on the United States for anything defense related. Find other sources of ammunition, or develop your own.

drednicolson | July 2, 2024 at 11:49 am

If you run out of bullets, go after them with cold steel.

As much as they love beheadings, it would be poetic justice.

venril in reply to drednicolson. | July 2, 2024 at 12:32 pm

Or, since it seems part of the shortfall is JDAM kits, bigger unguided bombs.

venril in reply to venril. | July 2, 2024 at 12:35 pm

Apparently FJB wants more collateral damage, Wonder why?

Dean Robinson in reply to venril. | July 3, 2024 at 11:16 pm

More damage provides more incentive not to attack an opponent who can inflict such damage. Since the gloves are off, Israeli top leadership should not have a problem with this, regardless of any whining by the NYT.

If this report is true then i guess it means the NYT is admitting that Trump was correct during the debates when he said that Biden should stop getting in he way of Israel winning the war. So in many ways this report is supporting Trump and not Biden. I hope the NYT likes being on the “right side of history.” As far as Israel, they have been in this situation during every war they have fought due to one country or another blockading and boycotting them. Don’t kid your self, the situation is real, but they will have to turn to alternative sources and get very creative and likely they already have. I have faith they will find a way because there isn’t an option not to.

The Generals. The New York Times.

Be suspicious.

the msm likes to portray hezzies hamas etc as a small disadvantaged militia

when we allll know in reality they are a well funded world backed terrororg

same way that blmplo are

Michael Gilson | July 2, 2024 at 1:04 pm

Do the people gloating that they can force a ceasefire by starving Israel of munitions realize that Israel can save a lot of munitions by stop caring about collateral damage? A Hamburg/Tokyo style firestorm takes relatively few munitions, incendiaries that are easy to make, no precision guidance and they could be delivered with cargo planes instead of jet fighters.

docduracoat | July 2, 2024 at 1:29 pm

Israel would do well to wean itself off of American military aid.
While a billion dollars is a lot money, democrats preventing an Israeli victory only means future Hamas attacks.
Israel is now a wealthy country and can manufacture its own ordnance or buy it from South Korea
It would be worth it to be let off the American leash preventing victory

Milhouse in reply to docduracoat. | July 2, 2024 at 11:13 pm

Yes. This is why for at least the past 30 years I’ve supported cutting or ending US aid to Israel. The American money is addictive, and has been bad for Israel.

Hard to trust Biden. Even harder to trust the motives of some leaders in the IDF, with their background of opposing Netanyahu, pretty much “by any means necessary”.

So it’s very hard to know what is the actual state of the ammunition supply in the war.

When I want the truth about an ongoing war I always look in the New York Times for what anonymous sources are saying.

      recount???

      a do over???

but total lefty loving total chaos would ensue ANDDD the sitting potus would then say

we have to stay in power during this emergency until its sorted out ( kind of like what nyc did after omars gang destroyed nyc with rudy)

This would appear to have Samantha Power all over it.

Just flood the tunnels and wait for the cockroaches to come running out.

Let us say that this war does have to be halted because of a failure of the US under the current government to deliver promised [and possibly already paid for] munitions.

While the American Left is celebrating every additional Israeli casualty, I suspect that Israel is going to have a major strategic re-evaluation.

1) If a ceasefire is forced in Gaza leaving HAMAS intact and with another conventional war likely from Hezbollah in South Lebanon, Israel will do whatever it can, with whoever it can, to either produce its own or buy the needed munitions to restore its conventional weapons reserves for a multi-front war.

2) The one exception to that would be for Israel to avoid ANY dependence on the US for anything critical. They may have to have some involvement with us, but for them the US is not a trustworthy ally. I would also note that there are a number of sectors where there has been cooperation in the past, with Intel coming to mind. Israel will be skeptical of the truth of anything that they get from us, and vice-versa. And those exchanges will probably be minimized.

3) Noting that Iran is on the edge of having a deployable nuclear weapon and openly threatens to use it against Israel, and the US can no longer be depended upon to help deter such an attack; Israel’s known nuclear deterrent comes into play. If Israel is surrounded by states who wish to destroy it and has no dependable allies . . . and cannot be sure of surviving in a conventional war, does it not make sense for them from their point of view to bring unconventional weapons to the forefront of their strategic planning?

The Prime Directive for the State of Israel is the survival of the State of Israel and its people.

This is not going end as tidily as the Left assumes.

Subotai Bahadur

I suppose Go-Fund-Me is completely out of the question.
If they want to buy me a ticket, to Israel…
I wouldn’t mind lending a hand.

George_Kaplan | July 3, 2024 at 6:21 am

When bullets run low, then nukes will start getting rolled out. If Biden doesn’t want nuclear war then he needs to ensure Israel has an alternative.

Hezbollah appear to want to start a new front with Iran’s backing. If Israel can’t defend themselves with conventional weapons because the Biden regime has cut the supply …

Netanyahu, instead of being a cry baby complaining the US is not getting him weapons quickly, Israel should be using its own factories to build what is needed.

Israel needs to fight its war by itself.

The US public opinion is building for the US to get out of all foreign conflicts.

I would think our allies and our adversaries are watching very closely how the idiots in Washington are supporting Israel who supposedly is one of our strongest allies.

Where exactly are the plains of Megiddo again?
