Measles Cases Reported at New York City Illegal Alien Shelter
One of the many benefits of being a “Sanctuary City.”
When we checked on reports of a major measles outbreak in Chicago this spring, my Legal Insurrection colleague Mary Chastain indicated that health officials traced the outbreak to an illegal alien shelter.
When it was all over, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 84 percent of measles cases in the outbreak at the Chicago migrant center were linked to Venezuelan immigrants.
Now, it appears that New York City’s migrant shelter has a measles outbreak.
Two people living in a Brooklyn migrant shelter have tested positive for measles — raising the number of cases across the city to 11 this year.
Health officials scrambled to determine who else has been exposed at the Clinton Hill facility, a massive shelter, which opened at at 47 Hall St. last summer, which houses more than 3,000 adult migrants, according to City Council Member Crystal Hudson.Testing is being limited to the first floor where the two infected residents lived.
Health officials are also assessing vaccination documentation. Anyone who isn’t immune will have to quarantine for 21 days, according to Hudson.
For some strange reasons, there has been a steady rise in the number of cases. “Experts” are quick to point out a decline in the vaccination rates as the reason for the uptick.
The same upward trend is reflected nationally, as reported cases of measles in the United States have more than doubled so far this year compared with all of last year, worrying health officials. As of Thursday, 167 cases had been reported across the country, C.D.C. data shows. And 58 cases were reported nationally in all of 2023.
There have also been 13 outbreaks of the disease in the United States so far this year, according to the agency. A measles outbreak is defined as three or more related cases of the illness.
In May, the C.D.C. reported that a single measles case at a Chicago migrant shelter in March had led to an outbreak of 57 cases. Most of the cases were among unvaccinated people, according to the agency.
Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the C.D.C., said in March that the national rise in measles cases should “alert us, rather than alarm us.”
The disease was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, but pockets of outbreaks have emerged in recent decades, particularly as anti-vaccination movements have grown.

It is interesting, because every few days I see a commercial encouraging parents to make sure that their kids are vaccinated [MMR]. The actors always are middle class Americans. Apparently, if you are a hostile foreign invader, especially from the south, your diseases are not a problem.

It’s no surprise – the opposite would be a surprise. Measles is highly contagious and lives in any population that’s not highly immunized. If the US population in addition is no longer highly immunized, it will take off. Otherwise it won’t.
You mean residents of NYC might catch measles?

You mean since illegals have been pouring over the border at Biden’s invitation and flown all over the country like little plague bombs with no health checks needed. Biden has even been chartering flights direct from foreign countries for illegals.
No, it does not mean that. The outbreaks go back at least 15 years, long before the current border crisis. Generally they have not been traced to illegal immigrants but to legal visitors, or to Americans who picked it up abroad.
And it’s definitely the anti-vaxx movement that causes each imported virus to become an outbreak. There is a special place in Hell for Andrew Wakefield, who fabricated the idea that the MMR vaccine can cause autism, just so he could create himself a career as an “expert witness” in lawsuits by parents of autistic children. The question has now been researched to death, and while we still don’t know what causes autism, we can be completely sure that one thing that doesn’t cause it is the MMR vaccine.
Someone I know is a retired professor of paediatric medicine; about 15-20 years ago she was called to consult on a child with a mysterious illness that nobody could diagnose. She entered the room, took one look at the kid, and declared it to be measles; none of the younger doctors had ever seen a case and had no idea what it looked like.

Reopen Ellis Island. Set max throughput at 1,000 per day. Run it 5 days a week, 50 weeks per year. Monday thru Thursday for merit based applicants. Friday set aside for asylum claims. Total limit of 200K merit based applications and 50K asylum claims. Quarantine facilities, medical screening (modern), inoculation. Background screenings, financial screening. A US Citizen Sponsor required for each applicant who is obligated to fully support/backstop them for medical, housing, food, 100K bond posted by Sponsor, if the person disappears then set loose bounty hunters. Do this for a minimum of two decades.
