Amid conflicting reports that Joe “I am the Democratic Party” Biden knows he has limited time to prove he’s currently fit for office, let alone for a grueling campaign and four more years, and that Weekend at Joey’s has no intention of abandoning his presidential campaign, Team Biden turned to Democrat insider and former Bill Clinton staffer George Stephanopoulos to help prop him up in an undoubtedly friendly and, notably, pre-taped interview.
How they think that doing an interview that is not live and unedited will alleviate any doubts—or even a single doubt—about Biden’s cognitive impairments is beyond me, but here we are.
Apparently, the edits are expected to go well because instead of trickling out the interview in parts before airing the whole thing on Sunday morning, ABC News has announced that it will be airing the entire pre-taped interview on Friday night.
George Stephanopoulos’ coming interview with President Biden is too hot to delay.ABC News said it will move an interview between the anchor and President Joe Biden to Friday evening, rather than waiting until Sunday morning as previously planned, a sign of the extreme interest in seeing the Commander-in-Chief address issues of physical and mental fitness in the wake of a poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump last week. The interview is the first Biden has granted to a mainstream national news outlet since the debate performance.Stephanopoulos is expected to talk to President Biden earlier in the day Friday from the campaign trail in Wisconsin. The first clip of the interview will air on Friday’s broadcast of “World News Tonight” as planned, then in a primetime special at 8 p.m. eastern, and, subsequently, Sunday during “This Week,” where it was to have first surfaced in completed form.
Additionally, it is being widely reported that the “full” interview will be only 15 minutes long. I hope this is untrue, but I rather think it is.
The Daily Beast reports (archive link):
Joe Biden’s “extended” interview with George Stephanopolous, intended to jumpstart a comeback for the embattled president, will last as little as 15 minutes, the Daily Beast has learned.. . . . But The Daily Beast has learned that behind the scenes there is deep concern inside ABC News’ upper echelons that Stephanopolous could get as little as 15 minutes to conduct what should be a searching interview offering insight into the president’s mental state.ABC News earlier declined to comment on the length of the interview. The Biden campaign denied the suggestion when questioned by The Daily Beast, while a White House spokesperson said it was “False. The interview will be longer.”While there is no agreement between ABC News and the White House on exactly how long Biden spends with the veteran interviewer, the logistics of conducting it during campaign stops could limit it severely. Senior network figures were involved in calls Wednesday to prepare questions for the shortest time in case attempts to speak with the president for longer failed. One source suggested it would be more in the range of 20 minutes—still a relatively short period of time for even an accomplished interviewer to cover questions both over Biden’s cognitive state and his ability to stay in the campaign.
A whole 15-20 minutes? Of pre-taped, undoubtedly heavily-edited material will quell exactly no one’s fears, concerns, or doubts about Biden’s fitness for office. It will actually make things worse for Team Biden.
Needless to say people have thoughts.
Interesting. Where has Hillary been over the past week? Oddly quiet.
