Pro-Hamas Mob Swarms U. Chicago Hours After Police Cleared Encampment

Police in riot gear cleared out the University of Chicago pro-Hamas encampment around 4:45 AM CT.

But the mob returned, swarming the campus and starting a stand-off with the police:
Protesters locked arms and stood opposed to officers who the university called to disperse the encampment on campus that has been set up for more than a week. Police gave a final notice to students participating in the protest that they must leave or be arrested for criminal trespass, according to video on social media.
“Additionally, failure to immediately leave will result in disciplinary action as outlined in the Student Manual. You will be immediately placed on emergency interim leave of absence from the University,” the notice states.

Last Monday and Friday, I shared how we would approach making decisions about the encampment. Protest is a strongly protected form of speech in the UChicago culture, and the demonstrators had multiple opportunities to express their views. But many aspects of the protests also interfered with the free expression, learning, and work of others. Safety concerns have mounted over the last few days, and the risks were increasing too rapidly for the status quo to hold. This morning, the University intervened to end the encampment.
The protesters were given an opportunity to disassemble their structures and depart the encampment, and there have been no arrests. Where appropriate, disciplinary action will proceed.
On Monday, U. Chicago professors and faculty affiliated with the Faculty for Justice in Palestine joined the students.

The fact that the terrorist-cheering filth are professionally (non-student) organized and led is just more proof that these mini-riots are militant and not peaceful, and therefore should be broken up with extreme prejudice.

The appropriate punishment for the students is expulsion; for the faculty members, it should be termination, irrespective of tenure status.
When they say “We will not stop. We will not rest,” understand that they mean it.
The proper response to a mob/riot is a whiff of grapeshot. That will shut down most of it. Not really because the kids will just cry and go home (though a great many will), but because that would show a stiff enough spine that they might realize they need to change tactics.
Non-students have no fear of suspension and no fear of arrest. In fact in their cult, it is medal of honor.
It wouldn’t be if they spent real time in prison – for the first time. Then forever in prison for the second time.
When arrest means go sit in the tank for a couple of hours and then be let go without bail why would they fear it?
Until there are some sort of tangible consequences for acting out, there will be no end to the acting out. In modern academia, “consequences” are a prehistoric myth that they do not believe in. And they will not until the myth is proved real.

Let these pampered students, trustafarians, and ungreatful foreign visitors deal with being unable to fly anywhere. No spring break, no trips back to the US, no semester in Europe, no flights to job interview . . . Nada.
