NIH Official Finally Admits American Taxpayers Funded Gain-of-Function Virus Experiments in Wuhan, China

National Institutes of Health principal deputy director Lawrence Tabak’s testimony suggests “subject matter expert” is another word for liar.

The House Select Subcommittee looking at the origins of the covid pandemic certainly has been busy.

We recently reported on the grilling EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak received. His group was responsible for partnering with Chinese bat virus researchers, and one of those coronaviruses may be the one responsible for the pandemic and the resulting destructive public health policies to contain it. During his testimony in front of the committee, Daszak indicated the intelligence community was aware of the coronavirus experiments carried out at the Wuhan Institute of Virology years before the pandemic.

Subsequently, all federal funding to Ecohealth Alliance was cut off.

Now the National Institutes of Health (NIH) principal deputy director Lawrence Tabak has admitted to the subcommittee that Americans taxpayers funded gain-of-function research at the institute in the months and years leading up to the pandemic.

“Dr. Tabak,” asked Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, “did NIH fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology through [Manhattan-based nonprofit] EcoHealth [Alliance]?”

“It depends on your definition of gain-of-function research,” Tabak answered. “If you’re speaking about the generic term, yes, we did.”

The response comes after more than four years of evasions from federal public health officials — including Tabak himself and former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director Dr. Anthony Fauci — about the controversial research practice that modifies viruses to make them more infectious.

Tabak added that “this is research, the generic term [gain-of-function], is research that goes on in many, many labs around the country. It is not regulated. And the reason it’s not regulated is it poses no threat or harm to anybody.”

I must admit, I am feeling very vindicated right now. I spent a lot of time online trying to uncover the likely source of the virus. I highlighted the the virus’ unique molecular feature, called the furin cleavage site, as being indicative of genetic modification of another virus.

I uncovered information indicating that scientists discovered Banal-52, a coronavirus found in Lao bats, which shares 96.8 percent of its genome with Sars-Cov-2. Emails revealed viral samples from Lao bats were being collected and sent for study in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

I am not the only one feeling this way. The New York Post editorial board also recalls how hard it was to get information related to a lab leak scenario published and promoted on social media.

Anyone who questioned this claim — including The Post — was censored online in 2020. The reason? A statement published in Lancet by 27 scientists calling it a “conspiracy theory.”

We now know that statement was drafted by Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance, the company working on research in the Wuhan lab. He was just trying to cover his own complicity.

All signs point to a lab leak. The only reason we can’t say it conclusively is because China has been allowed to destroy all evidence.

. . . . Tabak’s new excuse? “Gain of function” doesn’t mean what we’ve always been told it means. It’s perfectly “safe,” he claimed.

On cue, the National Institutes of Health has changed the definition of the term on its website to make it sound benign.

Except it isn’t benign. EcoHealth was specifically working in China because such work was not allowed in the United States. What researchers were doing with coronaviruses was very dangerous.

Tabak was also forced to explain his agency’s communications department alteration of NIH’s definition for gain-of-function research, with the change being “vetted” by “experts.”

“The change was made by our communications department because of the confusion that people have about the generic term of gain-of-function and the specific term gain-of-function,” Tabak testified.

Malliotakis responded by suggesting the communications department would not be qualified to make a change like this and must have had other input.

“The content was vetted,” Tabak testified. “By individuals who are subject-matter experts.”

Tabak’s testimony suggests “subject matter expert” is another word for liar.

If Donald Trump wins the Presidency, he should either fire the entire staff (including the less than civil servants) or just abolish the NIH. (Other agencies in need of being abolished: FBI and EPA). I am sure commenters can add others to list.

Now, was the leak planned? Or is that just another conspiracy theory?

It does not matter if they say that the leak was not planned, because we have plenty of precedents where the Federal government and its individual officials deliberately lied to the Congress and the American people, under oath, and faced no consequences at all for the lies. Other than perhaps a pay bonus.

What reason is the to believe anything recommended by the NIH, etc.?

Something is out there waiting to drop… this slow leak is to condition the public.,.. slowly raising the water temp to boil the frog … in this case… dismiss the totality when it comes out.

After WWII, Japan went on a publicity binge to dismiss all that they had done. “Gee..sorry about that… water under the bridge…. can’t bring back the dead nor the suffering… must put this behind us now….. must move on…… ” Here they are depending on Stalin’s “millions are just a statistic”….. “Never again”…. what?.. that old canard? Just wait…

As Maxwell Smart would say…”I came “this close” to taking the vaccine”. One less sword of Damocles over my head. Every new or accelerated cancer I see now… every unusually early death I hear about…. one thing pops up in my mind … “the vax”.

OK. They admit it. Fine.

Now, what?

“It depends on your definition of gain-of-function research…” No, it doesn’t, Bill. Function X in a microorganism is artificially juiced (or gained) to become more virulent, or able to jump species, etc.

Fauci the psychopath lied to congess about gain of function research in regard to covid. Peter Daszak of EcoHealth lied to congress about working with the ChiComs for gain of function research. Michael Collins, former head of NIH, lied to the whole world about gain of function during covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

Every single one of them need to be executed for their crimes against humanity per Nuremberg Codes.

Every. Single. One.

Anyone who was paying any attention knew they were lying and that includes our feckless representatives in congress. A simple google search back in the spring of 2020 would give you results about Fauci funding EcoHealth Alliance and EcoHealth’s relationship with Wuhan Institute.

Paul in reply to Sanddog. | May 19, 2024 at 3:04 pm

Fauci, that smug little lying c*nt, should have his lying mouth pounded into a mush of broken teeth.

JR in reply to Paul. | May 19, 2024 at 5:48 pm

But remember, Trump thought Fauci was so great in treating Covid, that Trump awarded him with a Presidential Commendation. So should we have Trump’s lying mouth pounded into a mush of broken teeth? Is that what you want?

These virologists give mad scientists a bad name. They love to play God. Look what we are able to do. We can create a virus than can kill half the population of the world. All gain of function research should be stopped. If serves no purpose. There are an infinite number of ways that a virus can mutate to become virulent. Coming up with one of those ways to make a virus deadly does not make the world safer. It does just the opposite. If the virus were to accidently or deliberately escape the laboratory such as was the case with Covid-19 it will kill millions of people. Any virologist who engages in this research and administrator who pays for this research should, at a minimum, be jailed.

This isn’t the classic “dollar short and a day late”…. it’s billions of dollars spent and for many loss of a future…. a crushed economy…. and untold lives lost and still going. I’d say millions and millions of lives lost or functionally compromised. The scale is immense.

And all of it inflicted by our government ‘experts’.

So let’s see some folks in prison. Especially those who experts who wrote the letter claiming the evidence indicated a natural mutation to cover their crimes..

thalesofmiletus | May 19, 2024 at 2:40 pm

But you’re the crazy one for not trusting these liars.

And, people still credulously push the “lab leak:” theory, as if the Chinese communist regime was totally incapable of and unwilling to take strategic advantage of Dhimmi-crats’ non-stop subversion of and sabotage against President Trump and his Administration, by releasing a bioweapon that would damage the U.S. and world economy and allow a corrupt, greasy, dim-witted, emasculated and compliant reprobate in Joe Biden, to take residence in the White House geriatric ward.

It’s just pure coincidence that the Wuhan virus emerged on U.S. shores either in late 2019, or, in early 2020, right at the beginning of a presidential election. Let’s get real. The Chinese don’t give a damn about their own people and they’re certainly not above killing millions of innocents — whether Chinese or not — to advance their strategic interests.

markm in reply to guyjones. | May 21, 2024 at 12:26 am

Nope. If the Chinese were planning to weaponize a virus and release it, they’d have done a better job – starting with working on a family of viruses that they could effectively vaccinate themselves against. COVID is so unstable that it will mutate and render any vaccine obsolete faster than the vaccine can be mass-produced.

COVID wasn’t their war virus. It was the experimental model that they could work on to learn how to make a war virus. Then it leaked, and shut down a city that does a whole lot of work for first world companies, threatening economic disaster. The psychopaths running the Chinese government then figured out a way to use this to keep or even improve their position as compared to the first world – they would keep the virus a secret as long as they could (just a few months), then use the puppet they had installed at the head of WHO to tell the world that it was not contagious among humans and gain one or two more months. All the time, they kept the international flights from Wuhan going while stopping internal travel.

It worked pretty well for a while. They successfully exported the virus while slowing the spread internally. Businesses were closed all over Europe and the USA, while most Chinese provinces that weren’t Wuhan stayed open for business. That is, it worked until the virus leaked from foreign countries back into China. Any intelligent and biological warfare expert knows that will happen – but doesn’t want to explain to his bosses that bio warfare is unwinnable, hiring him was a waste of money because whatever he produced should never be used and is a hazard even locked up in the highest security labs, and if he had any success they should ensure his silence…

Look at how long they’ve dragged their feet and confused the issue. Bureaucracy at work. And Faucci lied every time he opened his mouth.

Says a guy who literally LIVED THROUGH the dog’s-bed this virus made of the USA’s entire economy and society, not to mention the world’s.

What a fucking asshole.

healthguyfsu | May 20, 2024 at 2:51 am

Gain of function for a human or an animal that isn’t a human threat is safe for others and the subject as long as it doesn’t cause cancer.

Gain of function for an infectious microbe is a VERY different thing and he’s just another guy trying to gaslight.

You get to say “I Told You So!!!”

They get to keep the unsigned mail-in ballot.

facci was just running out the clock
so he could collect his govt pension and laugh all the way to the bank.
same with AIDS.
I think facci should be dragged into the deep desert stripped naked
tied spread eagle and wait for the sand fleas to eat him alive.

So, where is the gallows going up?

File felony charges against Fauci for misappropriation government funds to do banned research in China, and for perjury about it. Then also charge him for hundreds of thousands of counts of felony murder – or millions if we can count foreign victims. And hang him before he can file an appeal.
