Columbia Cancels University Wide Commencement After Anti-Israel Protests

“Our students emphasized that these smaller-scale, school-based celebrations are most meaningful to them and their families.”

Columbia canceled its university-wide commencement ceremony for smaller ones due to anti-Israel protests:

A university official tells Fox News that security concerns in the wake of recent anti-Israel protests on campus was one of the main reasons in deciding to cancel the larger event.

“Our Deans and other colleagues who work directly with our students have been discussing plans with student leaders, and, most importantly, listening. Based on their feedback, we have decided to make the centerpiece of our Commencement activities our Class Days and school-level ceremonies, where students are honored individually alongside their peers, rather than the University-wide ceremony that is scheduled for May 15,” Columbia said in a statement.

“Our students emphasized that these smaller-scale, school-based celebrations are most meaningful to them and their families,” it continued. “As a result, we will focus our resources on those school ceremonies and on keeping them safe, respectful, and running smoothly.”

Columbia University has been rocked by a wave of antisemitic protests that have resulted in more than 100 arrests.

“These past few weeks have been incredibly difficult for our community. Just as we are focused on making our graduation experience truly special, we continue to solicit student feedback and are looking at the possibility of a festive event on May 15 to take the place of the large, formal ceremony,” Columbia also said.

Very sad.

I remember May, 1982, pure, glorious bedlam.. over 4000 graduates..
TY Mary, I think this was inevitable.

We did this at my University years ago. I didn’t go but friends who did said it was great graduating with people you know

This is a horrible decision and a HUGE gift to those using the heckler’s veto…which will only encourage even more lawlessness.

It reduces audience size, which is a turn-off for protesters.

It is an inevitable outcome of the Columbia administration’s refusal to forcefully deal with the Hamasholes.

Now the normal students have to suffer because of these ignorant infants.

Time to cancel Columbia.

Hopefully, its donor base will abandon it.

Columbia University cancels their graduation ceremon

.. and now, so many will not be able to walk and receive their “$400,000 handshake”

Normal students get screwed again the feckless administration cowers before the leftist mob of pro-terrorism psychopaths shouting slogans similar to Nazi Brownshirts. The left doing its usual: sacrificing the normal to the abnormal.

the lefty has been coddling the criminals in the schools

and wth

now even “dating” them and having their children

exciting times for america

Despite their beliefs to the contrary, students are not owners of “their college/university,” they are customers.

So everyone loses out because of the weirdo bigots the administration let have all the power and say so. That’s truly sad and pathetic for a group of kids who have already suffered and lost many rights of passage because of COVID-19. I loved my university wide Tulane graduation, it was a moment in my life I’ll never forget and one these young people will never have.

Meh. I feel bad for the students and parents who were not part of the Hamas lynch mob, but there is nothing that can be done now.

This rests squarely at the feet of the genocidal maniacs in the administration and faculty who brought this about with their murderous hate and bigotry. There is such a thing as pulling the house down on top of yourselves.

Not surprising, pretty much could see this one coming when USC shut down their commencement for the same reason. Hopefully the rest of the student body will tell those terrorists supporters exactly how they feel about it.

So Sat Night Live did a skit about Columbia. It was actually really funny. At the end the dad said “68 thousand a yr for 4 yrs if I don’t see my daughter walk across the stage Columbia is going to be known for something other than the protests.” I nearly died.
