The tents are a tool. They use them to change the battlespace to their advantage.
They are an economy of force technique in that he tents take up space, they make the demonstrator force look larger than it is. Make the demonstration seem a constant, as compared to the demonstrators who retreat from active roles at night.
They conceal activities, Obstruct the movements and activities of the authorities Offer the illusion of protection to the demonstrators. Channelize dems and opposition alike to places the organizers want them.
But they also have a major vulnerability which we have not seen demonstrated in the recent illegal gatherings. Sigh… I am an old man; I was in college in the early 70’s. I had a Jewish roommate and nobody cared. In fact, he didn’t care very much himself. It was just a difference between us that was interesting. We, and everybody in our circle got along fine. Now, my school was small and private and there weren’t any protests….about anything…so maybe we were all some sort of Galapagos Island or something but I never knew of anybody who had any issues with Jewish people or their religion during my working career either.
