The Biden Administration Gave Iran Billions in New Sanctions Relief Exactly One Month Ago

Now that Iran is attacking Israel, it’s a good time to recall that exactly one month ago, the Biden administration freed up billions for Iran in new sanctions relief. Do you think these two developments might be somehow related?

I’m thinking there might be a connection.

FOX News reported in March:

US frees up billions in sanctions relief to Iran as Tehran proxies wreak havoc in region

White House national security advisor John Kirby on Friday said the funds from a sanction waiver extended this week by the Biden administration to permit Iraq to purchase energy from Iran will not go to its “mullahs.”

“None of this money goes to the mullahs. None of this money goes into Tehran. The sanctions relief that is provided actually goes to vendors that provide humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people,” he told Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich, during a Friday press briefing. “Not only do the Iraqi people not suffer because of this, the Iranian people aren’t going to suffer because of this.”

“That allows for Iraq to be able to work its way off of Iranian energy so that they can keep the lights on,” Kirby said.

The Biden administration on Thursday came under criticism after it again extended a sanction waiver despite repeated pushback from those concerned that Iran could misuse the funds.

Republicans opposed this. The Washington Free Beacon reported at the time:

Biden Admin Poised To Grant Iran Billions in Sanctions Relief, Lawmakers Warn

The Biden administration is poised to issue a fresh sanctions waiver for Iran that will grant the country access to upward of $10 billion in frozen assets, providing Tehran with “a financial lifeline” as it foments terrorism across the Middle East, according to a group of GOP lawmakers.

In November, shortly after Hamas’s attack on Israel, the State Department signed off on a sanctions waiver that permits Iraq to transfer multibillion-dollar electricity payments to Iran. The waiver, which grants Tehran access to around $10 billion in frozen funds, is set to expire this month unless the Biden administration renews it.

A group of Republican lawmakers is concerned that the sanctions waiver will be approved, according to a letter sent late Monday to the Treasury and State Departments and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

And now, here we are.

Remember when former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Biden has been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue” for decades?

Seems more relevant today.

It all makes me wonder what the Ayatollahs and mullahs have on the democrat party and Joe in particular at this point that makes them so submissive to Iran and its terrorism. It’s got to be good whatever it is.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | April 14, 2024 at 12:16 pm

Why must they “have [something]” on a party, and Joe, who already take the Jewish vote for granted, and who are all likely anti-Semitic in the first place?

Lucifer Morningstar in reply to The Gentle Grizzly. | April 14, 2024 at 2:23 pm

Why must they have “something” on them? Because I would truly like to believe that the Biden regime no matter how vile & inept they may be cannot be throwing the only democracy in the Middle East to the terrorists. That’s why.

Joe’s handlers are submissive to Islam generally, which of course is how Islam says all infidels should be.

guyjones in reply to randian. | April 14, 2024 at 1:40 pm

That’s why these vile and feckless reprobates are fairly and properly referred to as “Dhimmi-crats.” Fecklessly enabling, whitewashing and appeasing the most malignant and fascistic adherents of the intrinsically supremacist, totalitarian, belligerent, hate-filled and pathology-laden ideology of “Submission” is their reflexive operating and moral posture.

healthguyfsu in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | April 14, 2024 at 9:03 pm

They have nothing on them except an enticing offer of some nice kickbacks.

What about the original Iran appeaser….Hussein?? He and his Iranian sidekick made sure Iran was well taken care of.

Milhouse in reply to wendybar. | April 16, 2024 at 9:49 am

He did not have an Iranian sidekick.

Nor was he motivated by any love for Iran, let alone by anything the mullahs either had on him or paid him. His motive was to “take the USA down a notch”, by building Iran up as a regional power to challenge the USA. He couldn’t pursue that goal openly, but everything he did in the area was geared to that goal.

Why would the Iranian people need “humanitarian assistance”? Isn’t that the job of the Iranian government?

One simply need to read the American statement to understand the bankruptcy of American foreign policy.

gonzotx in reply to stevewhitemd. | April 14, 2024 at 12:44 pm

The American people are responsible for the entire worlds needs, from military, food, housing and apparently anything to do with Lgb+++

Bullshit about the money going to humanitarian relief.

    Olinser in reply to JohnSmith100. | April 14, 2024 at 3:46 pm

Even if we believed that crap, spending the money on ‘humanitarian relief’, frees up the OTHER money that they are were already spending in those areas, to be used wherever the hell they want, and the total amount of ‘humanitarian relief’ would remain the same.

BierceAmbrose in reply to Olinser. | April 15, 2024 at 1:20 am

Or they use the relief materials directly. Like making rockets out of irrigation pipes, or underground military operations tunnels out of concrete for building schools. Just a a couple far-fetched notions to illustrate the idea. Couldn’t really happen.

Let’s also recall the pallets of cash shipped clandestinely to Iran’s Islamofascist, genocidal despots in the dead of night, by vile narcissist-incompetent, Obama, as a sweetener to his farcical and indefensible Iran capitulation and give-away; an act of contemptible self-debasement and appeasement that was laughably termed a “deal” and promoted as an alleged act of shrewd statecraft by the Dhimmi-crat media lapdogs, trained seals and shills.

randian in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 1:22 pm

And because it was dark cash I can’t help but wonder how much of it Obama kept for himself, just like I wonder how much of the missing State Department funds Hillary helped herself to.

Stumbling mumbling biden, international symbol of weakness. Getting pushed around the world stage by 4th world countries.

How’s obama’s 3rd term working out for US and allies?

“vendors that provide humanitarian assistance”

Also known as flaming left-wing NGO’s, all of whom are run by hard-core progressives who donate to the Dim party.

It’s another kick-back scheme.

Only a fool would believe one pocket doesn’t fund the other.

But 5 million for the southern wall was just too much

And you wonder how President Trump was stabbed in the back so many times, over and over again

Milhouse in reply to gonzotx. | April 16, 2024 at 9:57 am

That 5 million would have come from the US taxpayers, so it’s not comparable to the money we’re discussing here, none of which came from the USA. Specifically the money in question here came from Iraq, to pay for the electricity it imports from Iran. All Biden did was allow Iraq to pay that money, and he didn’t allow it to pay it to Iran directly but to the NGOs who were providing humanitarian assistance.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | April 14, 2024 at 12:55 pm

“None of this money goes to the mullahs. None of this money goes into Tehran. The sanctions relief that is provided actually goes to vendors that provide humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people,”

“I’m not giving him money to buy drugs but I will pay his electricity bill so he doesn’t have to spend money and worry about having his electricity turned off.”

Kirby is such a repulsive worm. Traitor Joe and his commie junta are the bottom of the barrel of humanity. They all belong in prison, at the very least. Traitors. And the cleanup has to go back to Barky and everyone who was involved with him. All of them.

America is at a real point of inflection.

To Kirby……prove it!

None of this money goes to the mullahs. None of this money goes into Tehran.

I would like to think nobody is that stupid, and then the administration says this.

Conservative Beaner | April 14, 2024 at 1:25 pm

They want to get the lights on, hell no.

Let the lights go out. Then the people will have another good reason to rebel against the system.

Oh by the way, Kirby is a douche bag.

LeftWingLock | April 14, 2024 at 1:43 pm

I would hope biden delays the next $20 billion or so by at least 3 months to teach Iran a lesson.

Now comes news from Bonchie at Redstate, that vile Biden and his chaperones green-lighted the Iranian attack, advising the regime to “keep it within limits.”

This is outrageous, evil, callous and scandalous. A brazen betrayal that sets new lows of perfidy for the already feckless, greasy, duplicitous and morally bankrupt Dhimmi-crats.

https://redstate.com/bonchie/2024/04/14/new-joe-biden-green-lit-irans-attack-on-israel-n2172744

Merely the gazillionth reason to impeach Biden.

retiredcantbefired in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 2:21 pm

    Extremely serious, if true.

Gosport in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 2:39 pm

Assuming that’s true, and I do, think about how many US taxpayer dollars were just spent in defending against that attack and how much our already stressed munitions levels were impacted by all those high tech weapons we just expended.

Olinser in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 3:48 pm

And the dumb jackass greenlit this attack, THEN TRIED TO GO ON VACATION.

That’s how stupid and insane this administration is.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Olinser. | April 14, 2024 at 4:14 pm

Par for the course – When the arab dirtbags savaged our consulate in Benghazi and killed Americans, including the ambassador, Barky went to sleep and then took off in the morning for a fundraiser in Vegas.

I remember that. Then came the brazen propaganda and “fake news” deflection of Administration responsibility for the Benghazi massacre and debacle, from narcissist-incompetent, Obama, and, crone Clinton, who laughably claimed that a YouTube video had caused the Muslim natives to kill the U.S. ambassador and his guards, in a pique of rage at allegedly being disrespected. Obama and Clinton didn’t want to take responsibility for a totally preventable terrorist attack, in an election year. What else is new.

Perhaps most chilling of all, they actually imprisoned that video dude . . . he was a political prisoner in these United States. And he got out of prison bowing and nodding and scraping to the people who put him there. Surreal.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 6:29 pm

And, on top of the whole thing, “Innocence of Muslims” was actually a funny little trailer that was faithful to the Koran’s and islam’s traditions. A lot of the people who defended the guy would utter an obligatory “even though it was an awful, poorly produced trailer” but the fact is that it was perfectly fine, with a production value no worse than any SNL skit, and quite funny.

There’s still one version of it here.

Milhouse in reply to guyjones. | April 16, 2024 at 10:01 am

No, Fuzzy, he was not a political prisoner. He had violated his parole, no question about it, and belonged back in prison. Once they discovered that, what should they have done? Forgotten about it and let him continue the violation, just because they’d discovered it in the course of an investigation that should never have happened?!

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 4:11 pm

I can’t say this is surprising. I don’t doubt any of this for one minute.

Whatever Iran has on Biden and the entire Obama alumni must be incredibly serious given the links these people are going to to protect a terrorist state.

Tehran has nothing on Barky or Biden. Barky is an ally of Iran since Barky’s primary drive is his boundless hate of the West and of America. Barky and his band of maoist retards would ally with anyone who is against America.

Biden is just the most immoral, despicable lowlife in the history of American politics and is a psychopath with no care for anything but himself and his power. He is insane. Literally. He is allying with Iran because that is his path to American power and Biden will burn this country to the ground if it means that he will get 5 more minutes in the Oval Office.

America has been infested with the worst sort of traitors holding most of the levers of federal government power since AMerica went totally suicidal and insane and elected Barky (so much as that election was not tainted). America voted for self-destruction in 2008 … and that’s what we’re getting.

    steves59 in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 8:37 pm

I just read about that. If this is true, it is an extremely serious betrayal of one of our allies. It also means that Ole Joe lied when he said he told the Iranians “don’t.”
As jaded as I am with this administration’s ongoing fecklessness, this one is hard to wrap my head around.
This would almost guarantee that each of our allies will wonder if they’re next in the betrayal loop.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to guyjones. | April 14, 2024 at 8:47 pm

We were never told what the limits of an attack on Israel that we would tolerate were . . . but surely we could set them since we were paying for the attack.

Now the rooting bag that never saw this coming tells the G7 to hols together against Iran.

Let’s also not forget the utterly ridiculous Iran Nuclear deal, a classic case of kicking the can down the road and doing nothing to eliminate the problem. We’ll slow Iran getting a nuke but not stop it.

Trump ripped the deal up, Biden reinstated it.

$80 billion goes a long way towards developing a nuclear weapon.

In my view, Israel’s response should not stop at punishing Iran.

It should try to secure the overthrow of the Ayatollah and the mullahs–the entire regime. There is considerable evidence that Iran’s religious, zealot regime is unpopular. Iran’s economy is a disaster, propped up in part by Biden’s liberality.

I don’t know what specific attacks might prompt a successful revolt among the Iranian people. Assumably, Israel will avoid population centers like Tehran. Israel must target Iran’s infrastructure, such as electric power and oil refineries, to create hardship and lost revenues, discredit the ruling mullahs, and conceivably lead to their downfall.

Is such a result or outcome likely? I am unsure, but Israel should take this opportunity to find out.

Remember when former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Biden has been “wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue” for decades?
