Sen. Rand Paul Says Fifteen Federal Agencies Knew of EcoHealth Coronavirus Research and Possible Link to Covid

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul (R) recently penned an opinion piece for Fox News, describing what he refers to as “the Great Covid Cover-up”.  The Senator asserts that government officials from 15 federal agencies knew in 2018 that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was trying to create a coronavirus like the novel coronavirus that was the cause of the disruptive pandemic and the destructive policies that did nothing to contain it.

The research was being conducted by EcoHealth Alliance, an organization I have discussed before at Legal Insurrection. The National Institute of Health funded the research associated with the manipulation of bat viruses to be conducted by that group at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Paul says that, based on his review of the information, government officials representing at least 15 federal agencies were briefed on a project proposed by Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

This project, the DEFUSE project, proposed to insert a furin cleavage site into a coronavirus to create a novel chimeric virus that would have been shockingly similar to the COVID-19 virus.

For years, I have been fighting to obtain records from dozens of federal agencies relating to the origins of COVID-19 and the DEFUSE project. Under duress, the administration finally released documents that show that the DEFUSE project was pitched to at least 15 agencies in January 2018

It means that at least 15 federal agencies knew from the beginning of the pandemic that EcoHealth Alliance and the Wuhan Institute of Virology were seeking federal funding in 2018 to create a virus genetically very similar if not identical to COVID-19.

Disturbingly, not one of these 15 agencies spoke up to warn us that the Wuhan Institute of Virology had been pitching this research. Not one of these agencies warned anyone that this Chinese lab had already put together plans to create such a virus.

Paul also indicates that a further review of the materials related to the EcoHealth bat virus project indicates that the head of the organization, Peter Daszak, may have misled the Department of Defense about exactly how much of the research was actually going to be conducted in China.

Since 2021, Paul has drawn attention to a 2018 grant proposal from EcoHealth to the Department of Defense under the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA. The research proposal, referred to as the DEFUSE project, would have been conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

House Republicans recently uncovered information indicating that EcoHealth President Peter Daszak may have misled DARPA as to how much of the research would have been done in the United States rather than China in order to ensure that the DOD was “comfortable with [the] team.”

If the project had been funded by DARPA, the research would have involved manipulation of the spike proteins on various viruses related to SARS-CoV, which would have subsequently been injected into “humanized mice to assess [the modified viruses’] capability to cause SARS-like disease.”

As a reminder, in 2023, the Biden administration authorized $2.3 million to be distributed to EcoHealth over the next four years to work on ‘bat-origin coronaviruses”.

It an interview with the UK Daily Mail, Paul indicates he is now investigating the possibility that former White House coronavirus advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci’s secret ‘off the books’ trips to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Paul disclosed that Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was friendly with the CIA – which is notably one of the few federal agencies that still has not clearly established COVID-19 origins.

‘The CIA officially still says [COVID-19 is] probably from animals,’ Paul said. ‘We also have stories, rumors and innuendo that Fauci was a frequent visitor off the books to the CIA.’

He pointed to how the CIA disagrees with findings from the Department of Energy and FBI that have said the the pandemic likely originated from a leak at a Wuhan, China, lab.

‘We have another whistleblower from the CIA that says that the scientific committee that was commissioned to look into the origins of the virus actually voted six to one that it came from the lab and that they were overruled by superiors at the CIA,’ the senator told DailyMail.com.

The agency’s reversal and its secretive meetings with Fauci are suspicious, Paul said.

Paul was recently interviewed by Fox News host Laura Ingraham. They reviewed the lack of scientific basis for the destructive covid policies implemented (social distancing, business closures, masks, and vaccine mandates), and Paul indicated Fauci should be jailed for his actions.

I’ve sent two referrals to the Department of Justice. I think he liked to Congress, which is a felony…Several folks from the Trump administration were accused of lying to Congress and carted off to jail, with FBI agents all over their property and yanking them out of their houses early in the morning.

Personally, I hope Paul also devotes some effort in assessing Dr. Deborah Birx and her role in extending “15 days to slow the spread” into the multi-year travesty it became.
