Denver, Colorado is a proud ‘sanctuary city’ despite the myriad self-inflicted problems this status has caused. From an overloaded health care system on the verge of collapse, to nearby Aurora refusing to take Denver’s illegal alien overflow, to Denver actually urging property owners to rent to illegals at slashed rates, the city is teetering due to a tiny fraction of the illegal aliens that border states, cities, and towns have been dealing with for decades.
But the genius Democrats in charge there have a great plan to help support the illegal aliens for whom they have laid out the welcome mat: Defund police to the tune of $8.4 million and funnel those funds to illegals.
It gets worse. The Democrat mayor wants to spend a whopping $89.9 million, including cuts to firefighters, to provide (luxury?) services to the influx of illegals.
The Democrat-run city of Denver plans to defund its Police Department to pay for illegal immigrants.
Colorado’s capital, commonly referred to as a “sanctuary city,” announced Wednesday that it will spend $89.9 million on services for incoming illegal migrants, pulling some funding from roughly $45 million in public programs and services. The Denver Police Department will be hit with a reduction of $8.4 million— about 1.9% of its total operating budget, the city confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Denver became the top destination per capita for incoming illegal aliens in 2023, having had more than 40,000 arrive that year alone to put the total population of illegal immigrants at roughly 710,000 [sic], according to NBC News. Last year, Denver spent over $42 million in housing and medical services for the migrants and plans to spend over $100 million on similar costs this year.
The Denver Fire Department also will suffer a $2.5 million reduction, or about 0.8% of its total operating costs, according to the city. Half of those reductions will come from vacant positions.
The sanctuary city’s progressive Mayor Mike Johnston unveiled a budget proposal on Wednesday, allocating $89.9 million to assist incoming undocumented migrants, whom he refers to as ‘newcomers.’
. . . . The amount will be drawn from approximately $45 million that’s used for public programs and services.
As a result of this reallocation, the police and fire department are some of those expected to face budget cuts.
Johnston claimed this was the best option available to provide services to migrants.
. . . . Denver plans to spend the $89.9 million on various migrant assistance programs in 2024, including $3 million to ‘Program Administration,’ $51.7 million to ‘Shelter and Housing,’ $9.7 million to ‘Supportive Services,’ $9.5 million to ‘One Time Capital Costs’ and $10 million to ‘Contingency.’

Defund the police to pay for illegals, their crime, squalor, and drain upon limited city resources? Why not defund schools instead? Or fire department? Or hospitals? Or DOT like snow removal or street repair?
Because the political elite are waging assymetrical war against their own citizens by facillitating and colluding with the anarcho-terrorism wrought by this invasion of illegals. It’s a feature, not a bug.
Why? An orderly, safe society does not benefit the political elite in replacement of the existing voter base. Destitute, ignorant, needy peoples are easier to manipulate, and bribe with trinkets and freebies from the government. The resultant squalor and crime will drive out ‘decent’ people who built once wonderous cities like San Fran, Denver, Portland, etc.
The government then condemns and confiscates abandoned property via eminent domain – ‘for the greater good’ – which will then supply ‘affordable housing’ to marginalized people to occupy. They will be grateful for the handout and return the favor as loyal regime voters (yes, it will eventually be legalized for them to vote).
Those who object will be scolded with, “You chose to leave VOLUNTARILY. Us political elites are mere public servants taking care of our remaining constituents.”

It would seem that the only way to solve the homeless problem in Colorado is to put homeless people on busses and send them across the border. Bring them back as undocumented, to Denver of course, and they will be welcomed with open arms and taken good care of.

That is something I pose to greenie weenies. A person living in a 3rd world country consumes a unit of carbon. But when they enter the US, legally or illegally doesn’t matter, they now start to consume 10 units of carbon. Except for a couple of years when I was stuck in Nebraska, I have been a Colorado resident since 1960. When I first arrived in Denver in 1960, Denver had a Republican Mayor, a Dick Batterton. His administration was the last time that the Democrats did not control the government of the “City and County of Denver”. All the screw ups, tyranny, etc. are theirs. Denver has been going downhill, becoming more unsafe, and broker for 60 years. It is beyond recovery. Part of my career, before I moved to the Law Enforcement Agency here in Colorado I retired from was in Denver. I know from experience what it was like, And I know from observation what it is like now. It is not as bad as Chicago, NYC, or the West Coast Leftist paradises, but that is because they had a head start. Denver is trying to collapse as fast as they are.
Do not move yourself, your family, or your business to anywhere in Metropolitan Denver. You will regret it if you do.

Moved to Colorado in ’84…been watching the decline statewide ever since at the hands of what started as “Liberals” then moved to full on demented actions by The Leftists In Charge. I live in the rural areas, that 85% of the state who get up each morning only to be left alone and live life to the full, whereas the 15% in Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Pueblo overshadow the rest of us. Denver is dead, and for some reason the insanity is left to run open loop.
