Poll: Majority Think Both Biden And Trump Are Too Old For Second Terms

“Eighty-six percent of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president, while 62% think the same of Trump, 77”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykR1SKh1AeU

According to the latest ABC News/Ipsos poll, a majority of Americans think that both Joe Biden and Donald Trump are too old to run for second terms.

Of course, the subhead tells the rest of the story.

This is not really surprising since polls have shown all along that Americans want neither Biden or Trump to be the next president. Yet, here we are.

Via Ipsos:

The numbers are pretty overwhelming, particularly in Biden’s case.

ABC News reports (archive link):

According to the poll, conducted using Ipsos’ Knowledge Panel, 86% of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president. That figure includes 59% of Americans who think both he and former President Donald Trump, the Republican front-runner, are too old and 27% who think only Biden is too old.

Sixty-two percent of Americans think Trump, who is 77, is too old to serve as president. There is a large difference in how partisans view their respective nominees — 73% of Democrats think Biden is too old to serve but only 35% of Republicans think Trump is too old to serve. Ninety-one percent of independents think Biden is too old to serve, and 71% say the same about Trump. [emphasis mine]

Concerns about both candidates’ ages have increased since September when an ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 74% of Americans thought Biden — the oldest commander in chief in U.S. history — was too old to serve another term as president, and 49% said the same about Trump.

That 91% of Indies who think Biden is too old must be causing shock waves of panic in the White House. They can win without Republicans, but they cannot win without Indies.

This poll may go a long way to explaining Hillary Clinton’s recent statement that Biden’s age is a “legitimate issue.”

There was much speculation on Twitter (X) about this comment: is this a signal that it’s time to push Biden out the door, groundwork for attacks on Trump’s age, her own senile ramblings?

Trump may have (alarmingly) mistaken Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi recently, but at least he doesn’t yet sound like this:

Fox News has more.

A large majority of Americans believe both President Biden and former President Trump are too old to serve another term in the White House.

Eighty-six percent of Americans think Biden, 81, is too old to serve another term as president, while 62% think the same of Trump, 77, according to the results of a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.

. . . . Trump bested Biden on which candidate was better suited to handle immigration and the border, with 44% of respondents favoring Trump, compared to 26% who believe Biden is more trustworthy with that task. Voters also gave the edge to Trump in handling crime (41%-28%), the economy (43%-31%), and inflation (41%-31%).

Meanwhile, Biden had an edge over Trump when it comes to which candidate respondents trust more with issues such as abortion (37%-28%), health care (38%-28%), and climate change (39%-22%).

The majority think both potential presidential candidates are too old for a second term, but with Biden, it’s the apparent dementia that takes the biggest toll on his numbers and seemingly breaking the dam that’s been shoring him up.

If biden was judged mentally unfit to stand trial, doesn’t that mean that anything he does from now forward as president is not legally binding??

TargaGTS in reply to smooth. | February 11, 2024 at 8:16 pm

Unfortunately, no. There’s a huge difference between a prosecutor exercising prosecutorial discretion in not seeking an indictment because he thinks a defendant’s obvious cognitive impairment would be too sympathetic to a jury and therefore impossible to successfully prosecute and a judge declaring the defendant non compos menti after a hearing examining the defendant’s competence to stand trial. The former isn’t legally binding while the latter clearly is.

randian in reply to TargaGTS. | February 11, 2024 at 10:29 pm

Does anybody believe that is actually what the prosecutor really thinks? Nah, that’s just pretax for covering for Biden.

Milhouse in reply to randian. | February 11, 2024 at 10:48 pm

On the contrary, I think the prosecutor really thinks he was faking.

That 5 minute video above makes me think the prosecutor really thinks he could not participate in his own defense and Hur chose what he did to avoid saying nothing and unable then to justify lack of a recommendation to prosecute, after saying he willfully did all that illegal stuff.

I think that Hur believes Biden has deteriorated mentally to such an extent that he can’t be convicted of a crime, particularly one that spans back decades, when Biden was a Senator hording and removing data he had no right to take off premises. It’s sucky as hell, but the truth is no DC court is going to convict a doddering old pervert with a (D) after his name, no matter how corrupt he once was (and still would be if he had two brain cells to rub together).

This is why DeSantis wanted to shake up DC and move a lot of this crap out to the boonies. Biden gets convicted in most states and jurisdictions, but he never would be in DC.

BartE in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 3:42 am

          @Fuzzy

This is nonsensical – the report clearly notes there is no case for a prosecution highlighting the differences using the Trump case. Its the same reasoning that was used with Pence etc. There simply is no case against him.

          The_Mew_Cat in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 9:44 am

Exaggerating is more like it. Hur probably thinks Biden did the ole “Uncle Leo” defense on him, but when you have diminished capacity already, it is pretty easy to fake even worse capacity. We all know Biden has to be juiced up for public appearances. All he had to do is be off his meds when the prosecutor interviewed him.

Massinsanity in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 11:10 am

BartE… please. Lets look at the quote from Hur:

““It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him – by then a former president well into his 80s – of a serious felony that requires a mental state of wellness,”

Beyond the age comments, Hur is stating that Biden should be charged with a “serious felony,” the only thing preventing that is his mental infirmity.

So by the Dems argument, Biden should be charged with a “serious felony” because his age and limited cognitive function are not issues.

TargaGTS in reply to randian. | February 12, 2024 at 7:46 am

Yes, I really think that the prosecutor believes Biden is suffering from diminished capacity. And, I think he put that in the report to let everyone – including potential voters – know that he’s suffering from diminished capacity.

Milhouse in reply to TargaGTS. | February 11, 2024 at 10:48 pm

Target, even the latter would not have any legal effect on his presidency.

TargaGTS in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 12:34 pm

Not legal, but it would SURELY present a political problem that could/would only be resolved by the 25th Amendment. If a judge found that Biden was non compos mentis, there would be incredible pressure placed on the VP can Cabinet to invoke 25A.

Milhouse in reply to smooth. | February 11, 2024 at 10:44 pm

First of all, Biden has not been judged unfit to stand trial, and nobody has even claimed that. The prosecutor investigating him wrote that in his professional judgment, if Biden were to present himself to a jury the way he did when interviewed, the jury would be likely to be sympathetic to him and to find an excuse to acquit him.

Second, even if the prosecutor had said he was unfit, that would just be his opinion.

Third, even if the prosecutor had tried to bring charges and a judge had ruled him unfit, that would still not have the result you are looking for. There is no such result available. There is simply no such thing as a president’s actions in office not being binding. It doesn’t exist.

The closest thing to it is the 25th amendment, which temporarily suspends the president until he regains his fitness. But no judge can do that. The only people who can invoke it are the vice president and a majority of the cabinet. And that’s if the president doesn’t object. If he objects then it also takes two thirds of each house of Congress. Naturally that is not going to happen until and unless the Democrats want to get rid of him.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | February 11, 2024 at 10:47 pm

PS: And even then, if the Republicans had any sense they would vote no, and thus deny the Dems the numbers to get rid of him. They can’t do it without Republican help, so no matter how incompetent he is the Reps should not help the Dems get rid of him. He’s their problem and they should be made to live with him for as long as possible.

Gosport in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 12:19 am

Agreed. The Dems peed away so much public trust and confidence in getting him there make sure they, and the American voters, get the full e-ticket ride.

        The_Mew_Cat in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 9:48 am

That would actually be a bad move on the GOP’s part. If they helped vote down a 25A resolution, I have no doubt Biden would replace Kamala Harris on the ticket for a more electable VP like Whitmer. We don’t want that. Biden would get revenge on her for 25th-ing him. If you are going to kill the king, you must kill the king.

Juris Doctor in reply to Milhouse. | February 11, 2024 at 11:11 pm

//First of all, Biden has not been judged unfit to stand trial, and nobody has even claimed that. //

Well, except that he has in a definitive manner, and that definitive manner is the crux of the report.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 11, 2024 at 7:40 pm

62%??

I don’t buy this poll. ABC News … sure …

Trump may have (alarmingly) mistaken Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi recently,

LOL. “Alarmingly”? One mistaken name. Parents call their own kids by each other’s names, every so often.

73% of Democrats think Biden is too old to serve but only 35% of Republicans think Trump is too old to serve.

This is the key, here. The dems, who know Biden is a mental case, are trying to throw Trump in with Biden in the “Both” category. And I have serious doubts about that 35% … mostly just NeverTrumpers, who are happy to spew any lie against Trump they can think up, for whatever reason it is that motivates their odd behavior.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 11, 2024 at 7:51 pm

Trump may have (alarmingly) mistaken Nikki Haley for Nancy Pelosi recently,

Yeah … a guy who has never shied from giving hours-long, off-the-cuff, open-ended press Q+A’s without preparation and without notes, who is happy to speak extemporaneously about pretty much anything … but he confused two old bitties once. This is like trying to condemn someone as illiterate because he typed “their” instead of “they’re” in an internet comment.

That’s not exactly what happened, though, is it? He repeated her name several times (in a row) and went off on a bizarre rant about . . . actually Pelosi, saying Nikki instead. Hardly a tiny little flub. Here are Trump’s remarks:

“You know, by the way, they never report the crowd on January 6, you know, Nikki Haley. Nikki Haley, Nikki Haley, you know, they — did you know they destroyed all the information and all of the evidence. Everything. Deleted and destroyed all of it, all of it, because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard. So whatever they want, they turned it down. They don’t want to talk about that. These are very dishonest people,” Trump said.

It was extremely cringey, and yes, alarming. Besides, the rest of my sentence (that you failed to quote) notes that he’s nowhere near as bad as Biden (I even included a cringey clip of Biden being Biden): “but at least he doesn’t yet sound like this.” And Trump doesn’t. Yet.

    Fuzzy can’t help herself

Eh, Trump has a long litany of errors. He once claimed that the confederates didn’t win the war because they didn’t have enough airports.

“”This is like trying to condemn someone as illiterate because he typed “their” instead of “they’re” in an internet comment.””

They are…. not to mention, sloppy, lazy and too stupid to use “Preview”.

Not sure the reason for this post. It’s not his age that makes Biden unworthy, and people will not decide on the basis of age, without more. It’s a silly question at this point.

Intentional misdirection. It’s not like his minions are going to say, “Don’t vote for him he’s too corrupt!” So they come up with a different excuse.

It’s very much like when Andy Cuomo was forced out of office over sexual misconduct complaints that surprised no one so his murderous mismanagement of covid could be swept under the rug.

Traitor Joe was always too stupid to be president, at every age.

The purpose of the article and poll is to try to tarnish Trump because of the mountain of evidence that Joe is senile, stupid, vindictive and corrupt.

The prime motivation for the GOPe, Democrats and other never Trumpers is to destroy the man and the populist, conservative, pro American movement.

GravityOpera in reply to Mauiobserver. | February 12, 2024 at 3:19 pm

Conservative and pro-America are mutually exclusive with populism. That’s why conservative Republicans oppose Trump and the movement that identifies as MAGA.

This poll is silly since the only other candidate is RFK, Jr at 7o and most of these people who think Biden or Trump are too old, will wind up voting for Biden or Trump.

    The_Mew_Cat in reply to natdj. | February 12, 2024 at 9:51 am

RFK is 70 and in pretty good shape. Just imagine the scenario. What if in August, after the major parties have already nominated Trump and Biden (or Harris) Taylor Swift endorses RFK? That might boost him by 10 points or more.

Never met either of these guys, in person.. I saw Trump at a rally in 2016. As far as I know, Trump has never been a drinker.. not a drop.. Maybe that has helped him. That and I think he has lost some weight.. I am not the only person who sees this,, although I have not seen it confirmed anywhere.

I drilled down a little bit on the study,,, it was done using Knowledge Panel, participants get some small cash incentive, or some kind of prize? That and it was only 528 people.

Interesting, but not surprising.

… also, water is wet.

Biden is too demented, Trump is too Trump.

They are both too old and damaged. We need to do better.

We could have. But no. This is what we are stuck with. Unless they push Biden out, then we are really well and truly screwed because if they push him out, they HAVE to skip Kamala and go straight for someone like Newsom or that woman (Whitmer), both of whom will wipe the floor with Trump’s great big toupee. He’s old and hated by moderates in both parties and by indies; they just have to make nice to win. And either would against Trump. Only Biden (or Hillary) might lose, and I don’t think even Weekend at Joey’s loses if push comes to shove.

chrisboltssr in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 11, 2024 at 9:47 pm

Yeah, Newsom did handily beat your favorite candidate. DeSantis lost a debate to a guy whose state is literally covered in shit. That’s how sorry of a candidate he was.

      Trump 2024

Did you watch the red state v. blue state debate? DeSantis mopped the floor with Newsom; so much so that Newsom’s wife had to pull him out because he was losing so badly.

Trump is not clever or good in debates, so he just comes up with names and then chants them over and over while his beta male followers clap like seals.

TDS is real, but now it’s Trump’s die-hard supporters who are the deranged ones.

Is there anything positive you can say about Trump?

This stuff is tiresome: “someone like Newsom or that woman (Whitmer), both of whom will wipe the floor with Trump’s great big toupee.”

Trump will definitely hold his own in a debate, even when the moderators weigh in.

I’ve said LOTS of positive things about Trump through the years, not the least of which being that my 2020 vote was FOR Trump because his policies were working wonders. Sadly, he did most of what he did through EO’s, so almost all of it was wiped out by Biden on Day One (or since) or has since expired.

Trump’s only STANDING positive accomplishments are his moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, removing the Obamacare tax mandate, and the Abraham Accords. All of which is amazing (and I think he should have won the Nobel for the Abraham Accords). There are also a lot of negative “accomplishments” that are still affecting America and Americans today–most related to covid: rushing the jab which turned out to be not only ineffective but actually harmful (or deadly) and not opening by Easter ’20 and his contribution to inflation re: covid payments (much of which went to fraudsters) and increasing the unemployment by $400 (on top of state payouts) and allowing such unemployment benefits to go to people who QUIT their jobs. Total economic disaster. But you asked for positives, and I do have those, as above.

Everything else he did that was positive, much of it very good or great, has been undone because Trump could not work with Congress to get anything lasting done. He doesn’t work well with others, I think you might agree, so he tried to publicly bully and shame Congressional leaders in his own party, and unsurprisingly, they refused to play ball. Trump’s fault. Completely. I see no reason at all to think he’ll do anything differently should he win another term (and I’d rather see him in the WH than Biden, so there’s another positive thing I can say about Trump).

Wasn’t talking about “through the years,” however. Haley can say that, too. This is 2024, and here you have made a comparison that is ridiculous on its face. Why?

What? You asked what I could say that was positive about Trump, and I told you. I still think the same thing about his actual, lasting accomplishments now as I did then. What comparison are you talking about? How is this comparison you perceive ridiculous (whatever it is)?

Not into playing games. You hardly have a positive thing to say about Trump, despite the lauds through the years. The comparison is accentuating that they are both old. Interesting choice of posts. Each thing mentioned is rather clear, but why is not.

You’re the one playing games, and everyone can see it.

You asked me if I had anything positive to say about Trump, and I responded with a LOT of positive things about Trump. In fact, I listed them in great detail in response to your query. That you don’t like what I think Trump accomplished to the good is okay, but to claim I hardly had anything positive to say is . . . nuts.

In that single comment I said more positive things about Trump than all of the Trump supporters put together who comment on this site have said in a year. Including you.

Not at all. It was simple to ask why you say virtually nothing positive about about Trump, but many things to denigrate. You will not say. Fine. But that is the way it is. Deny it. Play games.

Also, why did you choose to publicize a poill that compares Bioden to Trump, the latter in a negative way. Deny it. Fine.

I was sent this topic by my boss. I have this weird idea that I need to do what my boss assigns me to do in the workplace, but then I’m white and think like a white person. 😛

As to the rest, you are not making sense. I listed multiple things that I think Trump did that were good and/or great. In one case, Nobel Peace Prize worthy. That you can’t see them or just oddly deny their existence is . . . just weird. And confounding.

Fuzzy, while I basically agree with your view of Trump, you left out a number of important accomplishments. He did quite well on the border, on domestic energy, and much more overseas. He quickly destroyed ISIS, which Obama failed at, shut down Iran, did as best as probably could be done with N. Korea, and basically had the world believing he was not a guy to mess with. IMO it is not even a close choice between Trump and Biden. But, a guy like DeSantis could achieve a lot more and be a lot better for the country. Ironically, we look to have a choice between two less than optimum candidates who possibly can only beat each other, but no one else.

Oooh, good points! Some, not so good. He did well on the border, but it was all EO’s and Biden proudly undid them on Day One. Not an accomplishment in the Trump column. Ditto domestic energy. Look, I said he did a lot of good and great things, but that was then, and it’s all gone now simply because Trump didn’t know how to talk to Congressional leaders in his own freaking party. Crazy.

Not sure if you’ve heard, but ISIS is alive and well, not in the least bit destroyed. Iran is not shut down; indeed, they are feeling their oats (and either have or are very close to having nukes via Obama’s bad deal). I do agree that the world didn’t know what to expect from Trump and that this very thing kept Ukraine safe. But, as with all things Trump, it was temporary, a momentary illusion, undone by Biden with a pen (no phone needed since it was all done by Trump with a pen, who couldn’t get Congressional leaders in his own party on the phone because he was a complete dick to them all).

I forgot that he oversaw the more than justified killing of that terrorist Soleimani; that was good. And lasting since dude’s not going to be rising up to do evil ever again.

His latest crazy about green-lighting NATO allies being invaded by Russia for not paying their fair share is just . . . omg. Get us out of NATO, out of the UN, fine. Actually urge Russia to invade our allies? What fresh hell is this?

I’m not voting for Trump unless he somehow manages to screw up so terribly badly that he’s on the verge of losing Free Florida. And that would have to be monumentally bad since we are a winner take all state with a good chunk of EC votes.

I’m expecting him to win our state in the general, if Biden is the other choice, though I do have to note that there are NO yard signs for Trump around here. In 2016 and 2020, practically every single yard had a Trump sign. I reported on this in the comments back during both campaigns. At least every other house on every single street had a Trump sign. Now? I haven’t seen even one. But I haven’t seen any for Biden, either, so that’s good. The enthusiasm is not here for Trump, at least not yet.

Whatever the origin for the post, the question remains for what end? Is that unfair to ask, especially when if it conflates age with cognitive ability.

For the last time, you may have praised Trump back in the day, but as of late, not so much. Sometimes it seems “gratuitous.” Not sure what purpose it serves. Will leave it at that.

It’s a poll, on a presidential election. Taking place THIS YEAR. Are you new here? We report on polls all the time. What is wrong with you?

As an after thought, if you think your pounding your stubby whittle fisties and feetsies on the floor until you turn red in the face will influence our content . . . you might be right. Just not in the way you hope. 😛

chrisboltssr in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 11:12 am

First of all, DeSantis lost because he was punching down. What, exactly, did he gain by debating Newsom.

Second, by punching down he increased Newsom’s national presence because he was given legitimacy by a presidential candidate.

Third, there was no need for Newsom to “win” the debate. All he had to do was show up and not make a fool out of himself.

Fourth, DeSantis had everything to lose and nothing to gain. If DeSantis wins the debate, he gets kudos. If he lost the debate, it reveals him to be a scrub.

Lastly, DeSantis did not translate this debate into anything. And Newsom lost exactly nothing.

          Thus, Newsom won that debate.

And, the aftermath of that “debate” is that DeSantis lost Iowa bigly, was forced to concede and support Trump, and he has gone into obscurity. Do you think he’ll be called back up to comment on anything on the national level anytime soon? And now his political future is doubt. Some Trump supporters may end up supporting him in 2028, but that’s going to be a hard sell as Vivek has positioned himself well to become the future of Trump.

I, on the other hand, will never support anyone who is profoundly disloyal to a man who helped him.

And my last point as I won’t be responding to a thing else you because you’re a Trump-hating deranged zealot. While DeSantis has himself to blame for his morass, you NeverTrumpers are also culpable in his sorry state. You let your hatred use him as an avatar to take on Trump when everyone on Earth knew Trump was going to run again in 2024. You made that man blow his entire political wad now and he may not have a future in politics going forward. And that was your present to him.

          Congrats, I suppose.

The_Mew_Cat in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 9:55 am

What if Biden implodes at the SOTU on March 7? They will have to juice him up to the max with the highest doses ever for him to do that performance, and he could go off script or even blow a gasket while ranting behind the podium. Then Kamala takes over, and she becomes the presumptive nominee. Sure, she could be challenged at the Convention by Hillary or someone else, but that isn’t likely to work.

Democrats are NOT running Kamala. They are not stupid. They’ll run Gavin or that woman. And either will beat Trump with a stick, no cheating needed. Get a freaking grip. Your bubble is a freaking bubble, just as much as the Democrat bubble, you don’t get that, but it’s very very true.

Gee, I don’t know anyone who voted for [insert candidate], welcome to the Hillary Losers club of myopic crazy. Just because you don’t know them, of the over 300 million people in these United States, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Bubbles are bad. Pop yours.

Massinsanity in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 11:16 am

And Trump just said he would encourage Russia to attack NATO states that don’t pay up. The man is a menace. His victory in 2016 was great, he had some good policies – border, much of his foreign policy work, targeting the deep state – but he is far too old and way to reckless at this point. Plus, he is a spender who will only drive us deeper and deeper into debt.

So, DeSantis is gone but TDS still lingers. It’s Nikki all the way now, I suppose. But, you know, “fuzzy” you may want to look into little Nikki’s views on anonymity.

Not sure how you missed it, but I absolutely loathe and detest Nikki Haley. Cannot. Abide. Her. Not one bit. So no, I’m not on the Nikki Train by a mile. Her or Trump? I’ll take Trump in a New York minute. I am very literally #NeverNikki. I wouldn’t vote for her for dog-catcher, and I certainly won’t vote for any ticket she is on. Ever.

The true TDS is found in the people who railed against DeSantis for being “bought” and now suddenly are totes cool with Trump pretty much blatantly saying he’s been literally bought. Bizarre. That’s a special kind of derangement syndrome that, alas, Charles Krauthammer is not here to name.

I am loving the FDS, though. It makes me blush and giggle a little.

GravityOpera in reply to Concise. | February 12, 2024 at 3:28 pm

Trump Devotion Syndrome does more than linger. If it didn’t there wouldn’t be such a reaction to an obvious poll result.

Biden was too old and demented before he was elected. He has been crooked his whole life and now agroup of fellow crooks use his husk to rule.

I have seen no compelling evidence that Trump is like Biden in any way, he is still sharpe of mind, honest and forthright. This is another case of circling vultures, who will go away hungry within a few days.

Trump may still be sharp of mind, but just as Biden has never been smart, Trump has never been honest. Biden’s been Slow Joe his whole life, and Trump has been a con man his whole life.

      Great meme. Hardly accurate.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Milhouse. | February 11, 2024 at 11:29 pm

      Trump has never been honest.

That’s just a pathetically ridiculous lie. Trump has been one of the most honest and decent politicians America has ever seen. Ever.

Trump has been the most investigated person in American history and after all that effort and the fact that Trump worked in real estate development in New York City, one of the most corrupt places in America, they could not find anything to even smear him with. They were left with nothing but joke charges that no thinking person can take seriously and show trials that would make even the most hardline commie soviet red with embarrassment.

Trump is loud and brash and likes to exaggerate a bit and promote himself, but he is not a liar. He just doesn’t lie.

      “con man”

You are a moron. Trump was one of the main developers – and one of the main people – who saved New York City. When everyone else was fleeing New York, Trump started building. It was Trump’s phenomenal success developing in Manhattan (Trump Tower was the first residential property to go for over $1,000/sq-ft) that brought so many developers back to the city and brought the city back in so many different ways. Trump built like crazy and people were falling over themselves to try and partner with him. About the only person who rivaled Trump in how he helped rebuild New York was Rudy Guiliani, though Rudy did much of his greatest work later.

“con man” … you are a true moron.

“Trump has been one of the most honest and decent politicians America has ever seen. Ever.”

You will get a different opinion from gun owners and Hillary haters.

“I promise you this, with me at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, no one will lay a finger on your firearms” squares badly with ““I like taking the guns early… Take the guns first, go through due process second,” and “Just a few moments ago, I signed a memorandum directing the attorney general to propose regulations to ban all devices [bump stocks] that turn legal weapons into machine guns.”

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to henrybowman. | February 12, 2024 at 2:25 am

Bump stocks and Trump trying to be overly forgiving in his election win. Yes, both were mistakes, but in the Shrillary case Trump was trying to be magnanimous and heal the country. He really didn’t realize how despicably crazed the left had gotten, already, at that point. He imagined, I assume, that Shrillary would count her incredible luck and just go away quietly and that the dems would show some gratitude and decency for that magnanimous gesture on his part. That deal was not to be made, though.

henrybowman in reply to henrybowman. | February 12, 2024 at 12:06 pm

“He really didn’t realize how despicably crazed the left had gotten, already, at that point.”
I agree. He also didn’t realize how despicably underhanded they had already gotten, in infiltrating his cabinet and his executive offices. A careful man would not underestimate the swamp twice, should he earn re-election. But given Trump’s subsequent endorsements of McCarthy and Ronna Romney en pleine voix, Trump will never be that man.

That is a bad example, politicians have a tendency of caving when they feel political pressure has reached the point where failure to do so will result in the other side being in charge and being much worst.

This isn’t to defend the position, but it wasn’t dishonest on Trump’s part.

It should be a corrective to the idea Trump is always right an can do no wrong, but wasn’t dishonesty. He decided to do something because he believed if he didn’t the Democrats would be in charge and do much worst towards gun rights.

Honest and law biding are not an in no way have ever been the same thing.

Trump literally worked as a salesman with his money coming from convincing rich people they should live in his luxury apartments instead of other luxury apartments, as a self-promotion salesman selling his brand, and to finish it off selling images of success on reality tv (which is what made him a celebrity).

I really hope your cult behavior is internet only, not that it is helpful to Trump’s image when you engage in it here but people know who Trump is, know what Trump is, know his history and denying it doesn’t help Trump it hurts YOUR credibility.

        Trump has never been honest.

That’s just a pathetically ridiculous lie. Trump has been one of the most honest and decent politicians America has ever seen. Ever.

He has been a politician for only a very short part of his career, at its very end. So asserting that he’s honest in comparison to other politicians, besides being untrue (genuinely honest politicians do exist), is irrelevant. His entire career has been one sordid tale of cheating and grifting and conning people out of their money. Start by talking to any of the many small businesses he stiffed over the course of his career. Simply refused to pay their bills and forced them to give him a huge retroactive “discount” in order to get anything at all out of him. None of them have ever done business with him again, but there are always more suckers.

…. and also a very poor choice of talent, perhaps because no one could possibly be as good as he is at anything, so anyone will do. For example, without Sessions, Rosenstein, Wray and Barr, the deference to Fauci, and failure to drain the Swamp, I think he would have easily won a second term, for a wide variety of reasons.

      The_Mew_Cat in reply to Milhouse. | February 12, 2024 at 9:59 am

Very few politicians are honest, and good politicians never are. I think Trump is actually more honest about the policies he wants to do in office, though. About more personal and financial things, he is clearly less honest than many, although he can’t hold a candle to the Biden Crime Family when it comes to sheer corruption.

        henrybowman in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | February 12, 2024 at 12:12 pm

        Funny you should say that.
Very early in my life, I specifically wondered which could be more damaging to the USA — a competent but dishonest president, or an honest but incompetent president. Very shortly afterward, I was fortunate(?) enough to watch my thought experiment acted out in real time by Nixon and Carter.
Now I’ve lived long enough to also witness America’s most dishonest and incompetent president. I’ve never seen the only remaining combination, nor do I ever expect to.

And he’s so transparently malleable that I can’t understand how the deep state and Democrat powers that be didn’t get it and use it. He would have done anything they wanted in terms of abortion, climate change, more welfare, and gun control (among other things) they wanted if they just fed him enough praise and awe. It’s weird because they totally missed their chance to get a LOT of things done that Trump has always been iffy on and that he signaled he was game for when he said he wouldn’t prosecute Hillary because he wanted her to “heal” . . . but they chose war/#TheResistance over just working him. Weird.

And now he has his back against the wall, and anyone from anywhere can buy him. It’s not a good scene at all.

Fuzzy keeps trying

Well, at this point, your choices are either Trump or Biden, so stop asking the damned question or who is or isn’t too old.

henrybowman in reply to chrisboltssr. | February 12, 2024 at 1:00 am

You underestimate Democrats. This time last election cycle, Biden had been eliminated in the primaries.

In a practical sense, maybe, but the Texas primary ballot will still contain several other candidates. It’s likely Trump will win handily, but it isn’t a given, and this particular question might have an impact, especially if Crazy Trump keeps shooting himself in the foot as he did with the Pelosi/Haley fiasco (not to mention his idiotic attack on Chip Roy, that could cost him a lot of votes in TX-21). Stuff like this is why I’ve continued to disagree with the Trumpbot demand that everybody else concede and let Trump win by acclamation. Let him win via the primaries instead of bullying his opposition, and the question will be settled to everybody’s understanding, if not satisfaction.

Not cherry picking and editing the part that most Americans also feel Trump is too old for office is called integrity.

The recent Senate bill supported by the Democrats and GOPe Members represents the true divide in America.

The bill would have permitted at a minimum almost 2 million illegals per year will little or no vetting and no proof of them being able to support themselves.

It would have given them green cards which would have been a beacon for millions more and in fact a fast track to citizenship and access to all kinds of taxpayer funded handouts.

It would have provided 10s of billions to Ukraine with no accountability and no end game strategy of even goal.

It would have provided billions in support to Israel which actually most Americans support which is probably why it was included.

However that was offset by billions for Gaza which at this time means Hamas. Many leftists support Hamas survival and remaining in power but the vast majority of Americans don’t.

The bottom line is that the never Trumpers primary problem is that they oppose almost every policy that benefits the American people and support policies that harm this country. It is not so much that they hate Trump but that they hate American citizens.

What are you talking about? According to the die-hard Trumpers here, I am a “Never Trumper” (despite having voted for him twice, written I don’t know how many posts defending him for four straight years, and only rejecting him when he attacked DeSantis mere days before the 2022 mid-terms, which Trump then went on to lose for the GOP with his crazy “he’s a celebrity!” endorsements in PA and GA). I hated the Senate border bill. It was absolutely horrific, and I’ve said so many times both here and on Twitter (X).

Not supporting Trump doesn’t mean I hate America or Americans, you absolute . . . . Anyway, one of the more off-putting things about Trump supporters is how intent they are on painting with broad brush anyone who doesn’t support Trump. As here.

Mauiobserver in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 11, 2024 at 10:27 pm

You missed the point. I don’t support Trump for his personality. If he had GOPe policies I would oppose him.

I support strong borders, a growing economy, tax and security policies that benefit Americans not global bureaucrats and elites.

I support politicians that endorse and promote pro American policies and oppose those that don’t.

The democrats and GOPe support policies that are not only harmful to America but could very well be fatal.

I don’t know where you fall on the political spectrum but the choice is Trump or the America last agenda of the democrats and GOPe.

Mauiobserver in reply to Mauiobserver. | February 11, 2024 at 10:48 pm

One more thing I am not trying to change your opinion. I doubt that very many people are swayed by internet posts. I don’t really care what other posters believe whether it is politics, religion or sports.

I simply post what I believe and others are free to support, oppose or ignore. Their reactions have about as much relevance on my life as a TV reality show (which is none as I have never watched one).

Maui Observer, you wrote, “If he had GOPe policies I would oppose him.” But that’s not quite true is it? Trump backs “transgender” men showering, changing, and using the restrooms of little girls. That’s GOPe policy. He has repeatedly endorsed GOPe candidates from Mitch McConnell to Rona. He goes far beyond the GOPe when he insists that we should just trash the Constitution of these United States to give him a 2020 do-over. He has stated, very clearly, that he wants to take the guns and worry about Due Process later. Literally, his words. Even the most corrupt GOPe doesn’t say that (out loud, anyway). He refused to investigate Hillary because he wanted her “to heal.” Literally, his words. Another GOPe stance that says the gentlemanly thing to do is to rise above partisanship and reach out a helping hand to Democrats.

So you are totally fine with GOPe policies if they come from Trump. Interesting, but at least acknowledge it. I mean, come on, if Mitt Romney urged Republicans to drop the Trans Fluid boycott because they give him money and he has a big fund-raiser with the big boys at AB, you’d be appalled. And rightly so. A VERY GOPe move. Trump does it, and it’s all, yeah, well, Bud Light did pay for their transgression (as it were), and they are a great “American” company (even though you actually know that AB is NOT American.).

Very strange, I don’t get it.

What I do find telling, however, is that all we hear is “oh that Fuzzy is so TDS!”. Makes me all warm and fuzzy, really, me! I rate a derangement syndrome! Cool beans.

But where are the defenses of Trump? All I hear is bashing people who aren’t on the Trump Train, nothing rah rah Trump! No reason that he should win the highest office in the land. No nothing. Just he’s whatever I think he is my head, despite all evidence to the contrary. It’s all very Obama circa ’08 to me. Blind faith that Trump is all things to all people. It was horrifying to see that happen with Dems and Indies (and a good chunk of Republicans) in ’08. Hope, change! I am whatever you think I am! Paint me with hope, sing my songs of change! It’s just very sad to see on our side. We’re supposed to be the smart ones.

Mauiobserver in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 12:24 am

Trump supports the policies most important to me secure borders, no endless wars, use our military to protect America and our interests not some new global order or other nonsense, economic policies to grow our economy and prosperity and to reduce the federal bureaucracy and its vast unrestrained power.

Don’t know his transgender views it if his views differ from mine so be it. The issue for the most part has s a state issue.

With respect to investigations whether Hillary or the 2020 election the DOJ was not about to do anything to help Trump or harm the Democrats. Like most of the federal government they either ignored Trump or actively opposed him and would have done the same to any President with pro American policies.

That all sounds great! I have no problem with any of that; you have every right to support (or not support) anyone you like. This is America (kinda, still). Would that I had that same leeway. Sigh.

          See–Fuzzy’s an ‘ex’ Democrat.

That’s why she endorses every Democrat smear.

          Because she’s an ‘ex’ Democrat.

Everything they say, she says here. With a thin coat of ‘GOP’ to make it seem almost real.

“Any institution, not explicitly right wing, will become left wing over time.”

It’s always sad to watch this happen.

        JohnSmith100 in reply to Mauiobserver. | February 12, 2024 at 6:56 pm

Well stated, I was impressed by Fuzzy early on, but like all of us she does have a few warts 🙂

What’s the point of this other then whiny DeSantis supporters acting whiny?

Hey Thad, not sure if you heard, but DeSantis has suspended his campaign. Do you understand that DeSantis suspending his campaign means he is no longer in the race for the GOP nomination? Who do you imagine is so politically illiterate that they are supporting a candidate who is not in the race? Or maybe you don’t get that? Confusing.

thad_the_man in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 12:05 am

So you really can’t read? Since RDS has suspended his campaign and Nikki is basically down the crapper having lost ot none of the above, meaning it’s almost certain that it will be Trump vs Biden, what is the point of this article other then for RDS people to whine about how things would have been so much better if RDS won. Clear enough?

Do I imagine that people are still supporting RDS? Well I just saw this tweet in a twitter thread about RFKJr:
      https://twitter.com/Mark_McEathron/status/1756794122894012761
and it is not an isolated tweet. I see them all the time. So you tell me, am I imagining things?

They say that Trump supports are members of a cult, but it seems like RDS supporters are the ones who think he can be RESURRECTED.

Sorry just when has Trump said he wants to take guns away? If he would have proposed that every corporate media channel would pound that proposal relentlessly. Not because they oppose it but it would be devastating to Trump.

henrybowman in reply to Mauiobserver. | February 12, 2024 at 1:06 am

He did. At least three times. I posted two of them above; there was also a discussion that ultimately was not acted upon where he made clear his dislike of suppressors (silencers), a device so dangerous that several European countries MANDATE their use by hunters.

What’s especially ironic is that the first quote I cited above, about “with me in the White House you can feel safe,” was not from his original campaign, but from his current one — he made it quite recently to NRA members, who have long memories for Republican betrayal.

Dathurtz in reply to Mauiobserver. | February 12, 2024 at 7:15 am

He supported red flag laws and bump stocks were categorized with automatic weapons under his administration.

Hi Miss Fuzzy,
From my reading of reports, i think Trump’s NATO comment has been misquoted and repeated by many in an out of context manner.
He didn’t invite Russia to go apeshit at NATO countries, it was nothing like that.
IMHO

Mauiobserver in reply to Aussie Pat. | February 12, 2024 at 1:26 pm

If they don’t pay and don’t supply troops why should we defend them?

If they won’t use their own blood and treasure to defend their countries then America should not send our sons to die for them or expend our taxpayer funds to provide for their defense.

Actually, in view of the Muslim invasion/occupation of most of Europe, it appears to be a moot point. I really don’t think that Putin would want to add any more Muslims to his reconstituted USSR than he already has, and in fact until they succeed and consolidate, they provide him with far more security on his western border by just letting nature take its course. Anyway, IMO, NATO is no more than a paper target, and he knows it.

Ever hear of a push poll? Without the questions, answers, and demographics, I presume any poll is set up to get a desired result, This one is trying to smear DJT with Joes disability by, in part mischaracterizing as age.

That was just after the Parkland shooting. I take the position that he was processing what could prevent another tragedy. I am not saying it was the right call. Prior to the shooting he was against restricting gun rights regarding the mentally ill. Interesting that Trump is accused of failure to work with Congress to protect the border, but he wad also expected to have fought against McConnell et al more. Using the poerr of the pen showed the results of a better border plan than what we have now, when Biden took away the results with his own pen, ultimately opening up eyes.

For this poll to have any meaning, you must know the age of the respondents. For all we know they may have interpreted the question to mean is either man “too old” for anything, not just the presidency.

We should all thank the ‘ex’ Democrat here for writing about a poll that conforms to her biases and attempts to demoralize the right.

Thanks, ‘ex’ Democrat, you’re such a helper!

Once again Fuzzy joins the neocons and Nikki Haley in trying to bash Trump.

The entire poll is biased because it asks the wrong question. The question should not be about age, it should be about mental competence.

The Democrats, Joe Biden, and the neocons want the question to solely be about an age number, so they can damage Trump.

It has appeared for weeks that the sole purpose of the Nikki Haley democrat/neocon betrayal campaign of Nikki Hsley is nothing but an attempt to confuse the issue of age versus mental competence. All while ignoring the differences between policies of the candidates and their governments.

Its just Fuzzy being at best the useful idiot once again.

Don’t be an idiot (useful or otherwise). I absolutely cannot stand Nikki Haley, my not supporting Trump is not even close to that. If I absolutely loathed and despised Trump, I would say so in the same terms I do about Haley. Trump is not an appeaser like Haley; he’s just a malleable ego, very different. Haley gets politics, Trump does not, so she is the real danger. At least until the deep state powers that be figure out that they actually do hold Trump’s strings. And they do.

Trump’s just an idiot ego flitting from brown-noser to brown-noser. He has vague ideas, some good, but all susceptible to veto by his advisors (none of whom have any expertise beyond praising Trump), so he makes a LOT of wrong decisions. All the time. Covid. The Wall. Paying taxpayer money to people who QUIT their freaking job to live off the Trump buy actually the taxpayer teat. Disgusting. ALL of it.

Trump has no principles, no nothing, and if you think he does, just watch. If the Democrats and their deep state #Resistance are smart, they won’t fight him, they will flatter him, wrap him around their finger, and get exactly the anti-American policies they want. Trump doesn’t care about the culture, the grooming of kids for sex, the mutilation of children in the name of trans crazy. He’ll just go with all that.

Trump has no regard at all for the Constitution, for the law, for any guiding principle beyond what’s good for Trump. And he’s broke, he has shocking debt, he needs cash. He’s for sale. If the deep state is smart, they will just buy him. And Trump loons will rejoice. So sad.

4) Poll Shows Growing Distrust of Media Among Americans

(CN) — A [2020] survey released Tuesday shows Americans’ trust of the news media is declining even though they still see the institution as invaluable to democracy, indicating growing skepticism toward what many see as journalists straying from objectivity in the internet age.

The report assembled by Gallup and the Knight Foundation surveyed 20,000 Americans as part of the firms’ Trust, Media and Democracy series, and it found that Americans are more pessimistic than ever about a perceived lack of objectivity in news coverage from a media apparatus driven by barely concealed agendas.

“With each passing benchmark study,” the report said, “the American people render deeper and increasingly polarized judgments about the news media and how well it is fulfilling its role in our democracy.”

Even though the Knight/Gallup poll found 84% of Americans say the news media is either critical or very important for a functioning democracy, 49% of those surveyed think the media is very biased and roughly three-quarters believe the owners of media companies are influencing coverage. The latter statistic is up 5 percentage points since 2017.

Fifty-four percent of people believe that reporters intentionally misrepresent facts, and 28% believe reporters make the facts up entirely, the survey found.

Note: The Dog Did Not Bark – i.e., no mention of the corresponding rise in Advocacy & No-Platform journalism.

5) Once again – when we look at history – we find out that American political trends & MSM partisanship did not start with Trump.

• Despite the unrelenting 7+ years of MSM negative coverage, there is a growing public realization that Trump delivered what is important to the average American citizen – not necessarily what is important to the MSM/ Ruling Class.

• Also, for those who will take the time to objectively review his record, there is the realization that Trump’ results were some of the best in our voting lifetimes.

[Feb 2024] Voters are delivering a poor assessment of President Joe Biden’s job performance as he and former President Donald Trump prepare for a 2024 rematch. They are also looking back more fondly than before on Trump’s tenure in office.

Just 14% of registered voters say Biden has done a better job as president than they expected he would, according to the latest NBC News national poll. Another 42% say Biden has done a worse job than they expected, and 44% say his tenure has gone about as they expected it would.

But 40% say Trump’s presidency was better than expected, with 29% saying it was worse and 31% saying it was about as expected.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/voters-are-rating-trumps-presidency-better-expected-hindsight-rcna137971

[Nov 2023] With views of things in America continuing to be bad and now hitting their most negative marks of the year, one might expect an incumbent president to trail in a pre-election poll — as Joe Biden does in this one. But that’s only half the story.

The other half is that Donald Trump holds distinct advantages in his own right when voters look forward: More voters think they’d be better off financially if Trump wins in 2024, and more voters think it’s Trump who can keep the U.S. out of a war, if he wins.
