Oakland Pizza Restaurant Employees Fight, Fend Off a Fourth Robbery

Oakland Pizza Restaurant Employees Fight, Fend Off a Fourth Robbery

I need to add Oakland to my Google alerts. I sometimes miss these stories!

Oakland, CA, might lose another restaurant after being robbed four times in a little over a month.

Four robberies and break-ins in 2024 so far. From ABC7 News Bay Area:

Employees at the Cybelle’s Pizza along Fruitvale Avenue in Oakland’s Dimond District can be seen on surveillance from Friday night around 10:30 p.m., using a hammer and recycling bin to fight off suspects that entered the shop.

“They tried to steal the register…my employees were very, very brave…I told them don’t do that…but they had to defend themselves,” says owner Elizabeth Sanchez.

Sanchez says this recent incident is just one of four break-in robberies at their Oakland location this year.

My heart breaks for Sanchez and her employees. They work “seven days a week, with no days off.”

Now Sanchez might have to close the restaurant.

Sanchez, a Mexican immigrant, described the pizzeria as her “American dream.”

“I believe it’s going to the trash now,” lamented Sanchez.

But it’s not just the robberies: “Sales are down because nobody wants to come out, they’re scared for their safety. We’ve seen a drop in sales and we’re worse than during the pandemic.”

Sanchez and her husband will keep their store open in San Francisco.

Oakland lost its Denny’s and In-N-Out due to break-ins and robberies. Kaiser Permanente, Oakland’s largest private employer, asked employees to eat lunch at work due to robberies.

KTVU pointed out that other spots have closed near the airport: Black Bear Diner, Subway, and Starbucks.

Oakland residents want to recall Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, who is backed by George Soros, because of the rampant crime.

The Oakland Police Department even told residents to use air horns to alert neighbors to intruders or suspicious behavior.

The Oakland NAACP called out the progressive leaders, blaming the defund the police movement for making the city unsafe.

I just hate that honest people who are trying to make a life for themselves are treated so badly; not just by the criminals but also by the people who are supposed to be protecting them.

More than likely most of these folks voted for the current state. This is them getting what they wanted. I feel no pity for them.

I hear what you’re saying but for many of us there are no good choices. You can choose what the system offers, or just forget about voting. It’s little wonder our voter participation right now is low.

Eventually those who can will move to a better place. We’re seeing it in Oakland now. I don’t like the meatheads I’m living under now and I’m making plans to make my move. Voting is futile; for most positions in my current area the Republicans don’t even bother to offer a candidate.

I think what you are saying is you are part of the 1/3 of California that wants something else. I live about 45 mins outside of Oakland. I am definitely in the let it burn mentality.

          Fat_Freddys_Cat in reply to jdchem. | February 7, 2024 at 12:18 pm

I don’t live in California at all (I was there when I was in the Navy, that was more than enough!). But many of us are in a situation where our choices are limited.

It would be instructive to see who these people voted for, and if they’ve learned their lesson if it was a democrat.

If you live in Clifornia you will be aware that for whom you VOTE matters little. Da Sistum will assure the “correct” puppet will get the puppeteer strings properly attached so the Puppet Masters have the control for which they have so dearly paid.

I don’t approve of lawlessness, but did Sanchez, “a Mexican immigrant”, come legally?

      Tionico in reply to JohnSmith100. | February 8, 2024 at 2:17 pm

I would bet she has. Many latinos are in that are and have ben for centuries, lawfully. Don’t forget, that part of California is par of what was purchased back in the 1800’s. Spanish names abound, and the mexican heritage is strong. These folks seem to be hardworking honest folk. Its their “owners”, the ones ruining, er squeeze me, running, the cities that are the dirbags.

Guess what we are next if we don’t do anything about it.

The transition of west coast cities into slums reminds me of The Onion and the reports of the new residents complaining of even-newer arrivals from Eritia and Somalia disturbing the Arroz y Carne Festivale with their all-night ululating and the smell of lamb kebabs smoking in braziers.

Coming soon to a theater near you- “Death Wish 15.” Please arrive locked and loaded to enjoy our concession stand treats.

I recently had a traffic altercation here in Columbia, SC. While in merging traffic a bullish Escalade advanced in the right lane that had been marked “Lane Closed, Merge Left” for 1 mile, ignoring the responsible motorists that were merging to race ahead of quite a few cars. He got to me and I refused to yield, as I lawfully had the right of way. He rolled the window down and began cursing me in an extremely belligerant manner and purposely nosed in ahead of me. When traffic started moving he paused, zoomed forward before “brake checking” me. I met up with him at the next intersection, he exited the vehicle once again and confronted me. As he did I cracked the window and displayed my handy S&W P22 and warned that I am a ccp person, back off. He returned to the Escalade with Florida tags and threw a water bottle and hit my car with it as he raced off at high speed.
It was the content of character that I disapprove of, along with his admonition that “we own the streets”. I beg to differ, as this is planned and will soon cease when the black community finally casts off the chains of media and identity slavery, and realizes America is indeed the land of golden opportunity.

Do you have a family? If so, you would have lost everything and destroyed your family had this escalated. When driving outside of white communities please pretend you are on a nighttime bombing raid in a Flying Fortress over Berlin. Endure the constant flak, go about your business and count yourself lucky to arrive back home in one piece. Since the police are totally cowed, you will never have a fighter escort.

Agreed, but to break those chains they have to embrace education, actual education and have good work ethics. Right now, there are not enough that understand this.

This crime occurred in the Diamond District?

I am curious whether there are any diamonds left in this neighborhood.

CA cities turning into 3rd world ghettos overnight!

In other news, 20 cars smash and grab at SF airport hotel parking lot.

Dial 911 and leave message at tone, police have been defunded.

CA doom loop, BLM is smiling.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to smooth. | February 7, 2024 at 11:51 am

    Third world overnight? Nope.

The change has been happening for many decades. They have just gotten to the point where the 3rd world trash is now in charge.

Don’t worry, the Climate Doom Goblin will sail over from Europe and blame everything on the Atmospheric River caused by climate change

Don’t travel to bay area for any reason now. Three tech conferences conferences already canceled this year for SF.

“My heart breaks for Sanchez and her employees.”

My heart breaks for the Oakland A’s. They are trying to get out of that craphole and relocate to Las Vegas. But the mayor of Las Vegas doesn’t want them, “Don’t move here. Stay where you are because Oakland loves you. Figure out a way to stay where you are and make all your dreams come true.”

Yeah, right!

Tell me George Soros is a deep sewer asset without telling me George Soros is a deep sewer asset.

The fourth robbery of the restaurant in a month, but Oakland’s government is robbing EVERYONE 24/7/365.

Tranny misogyny and child/teen abuse/manipulation/mutilation; crime and public safety; illegal alien invasion, open borders and “catch and release;” and, Bidenflation.

Every single GOP candidate should campaign on these four issues, ad nauseam, and steamroll to victory.

Even with facts, many areas can’t be overcome due to questionable mail in ballots, ballot harvesting, and multiple ballots being mailed to the same address.

True. I agree that the vile Dhimmi-crats will engage in their usual, perennial election chicanery and shenanigans. That will never change.

But, conservatives still would be wise to campaign on the most relevant issues that will resonate with the broadest segment of the population — issues that represent common-sense conservatism and moral probity.

CA police drinking coffee, eating donuts, taking early retirement to start their own legal cannabis dispensary. Won’t even respond to 911 calls anymore. Just telling crime victims over the phone to fill out crime report online for their insurance claims. Police say they will do drive by on the street once a week to keep an eyes on things?? CA doom loop. There will be no “course correction” under one party rule.

Paula in reply to smooth. | February 7, 2024 at 12:37 pm

Haven’t you heard? California is going to start hiring illegals for police. They don’t care for donuts and coffee. And the drugs they’ll be dealing will be a little stronger than cannabis.

Police in CA are like the referee in pro wrestling match nowadays. They have uniform, and throw their hands around, and suggest the existence of rules, but have no real power to control anything happening in the ring.

I am pretty sure hitting someone with a “recycling bin” Is a direct violation of EPA rules. I suspect the DOJ will be looking into this soon.

“…using a hammer and recycling bin to fight off suspects that entered the shop.”

They were not “suspects.” A “suspect” is a person who is believed to have committed a crime, or who is accused of same. They were “robbers,” “assailants,” and/or “criminals.” The store employees didn’t identify suspects after the robbery attempt and attack them, they attacked the criminals who were in the act of attempting to commit crimes.

My guess is that the owner, Elizabeth Sanchez, will continue to vote Dem, regardless of her woke-created reality.

Some people just don’t have the critical-thinking skills necessary to determine the cause of an effect.

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to Q. | February 7, 2024 at 12:32 pm

And, you are absolutely sure of this. What is the basis of your statement?

Let me guess: the Spanish surname. Female.

    guyjones in reply to Q. | February 7, 2024 at 1:24 pm

You can make a presumption that Sanchez is a Dhimmi-crat, but, to be fair to her, you have no factual basis upon which to do so.

a Mexican immigrant
Of what sort? Yes, it matters – because I don’t care what their dreams are if they came here illegally. Because the allowance of illegal immigration for a long time now (40 years) has been one of the bricks breaking the back of law and order.

One million encounters by Border Control at the border in the past few months.

One hundred million encounters by citizens on a daily basis who have to deal with these illegal parasites feeding off our country, hogging up limited resources that are being diverted from needy citizens to support people who should not even be here in the first place.

What’s needed is a good dose of Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man.

I’m a little surprised this hasn’t already happened in NYC. I know the AWFLs would never raise a finger to defend themselves or even suffer the police to do it, but I’d think the already established gangbangers would resent the newcomers encroaching on their turf. That resentment is usually expressed with weapons.

diver64 in reply to ghost dog. | February 8, 2024 at 4:33 am

I’d take the cop that killed both of them but they would be a good start.

Lefty Spin:

Thissss is why we allow criminals to stay free

so that honsest citizens can train for the ufc

destroycommunism | February 7, 2024 at 12:23 pm

also:

A San Francisco Bay-area elementary school was trained by an organization called “Woke Kindergarten,” whose leader wants to see America and Israel destroyed as countries, according to posts on social media.

According to the website, the head of the organization is “Akiea ‘Ki’ Gross (they/them)” who “is an abolitionist early educator, cultural organizer and creator currently innovating ways to resist, heal, liberate and create with their pedagogy, Woke Kindergarten.”

“I believe the United States has no right to exist. I believe every settler colony who has committed genocide against native peoples, against Indigenous people, has no right to exist,” Gross said in a recent Instagram post. “Y’all the demons. Y’all are the villains. We’ve been trying to end y’all. Get free of y’all.”

I’ll bet $10 to a donut that Oakland NAACP supported the defund the police movement.

On a plus note, once the limited resources of Oakland have been depleted, they will drift over to Berkely. That is when the true hand wringing will start. A few decades ago, everyone I knew in Balmer who was moving from the city was moving to an adjacent county (Harford, Columbia), and many were going across the state line into a new bedroom community in Southern PA along I83 appropriately named “New Freedom”. Simply moving to Baltimore County wasn’t enough.

Those people should have pulled their legal concealed carry and stopped this. Oh, wait….Guy up the street at the local general store has a 357 Mag in a holster bolted to the counter right next to the cash resister in clear view. Never an attempted robbery
