House Intelligence Committee: White House Should Immediately Declassify “Information Concerning A Serious National Security Threat”

House Intelligence Committee: White House Should Immediately Declassify “Information Concerning A Serious National Security Threat”

Rep. Mike Turner: “I am requesting that President Biden declassify all information relating to this threat so that Congress, the Administration, and our allies can openly discuss the actions necessary to respond to this threat.”

So this is interesting.

Let the speculation begin.

Sleeper cells? Electric/energy grids compromised?

CNN is saying it’s Russia (take that with a grain of salt until confirmed):

Multiple sources familiar with the intelligence characterized the intelligence as “very sensitive.”

Earlier Wednesday, Turner sent his Congressional colleagues a letter saying the urgent matter is “with regard to a destabilizing foreign military capability.”

One of the sources who has seen the intelligence confirmed that “it is, in fact, a highly concerning and destabilizing” Russian capability “that we were recently made aware of.”

Turner said in the dear colleagues letter that the House Intelligence Committee voted on February 13 to make certain information available for lawmakers to review and says members have time to view this between Wednesday and Friday.

Well, well, well. Apparently something bad has ‘sneaked’ across our southern border…two divisions of Chicom or Iranians fighters, perhaps? Both?

Lol. Apparently it’s not the disaster that is our southern border. Instead, it’s presidential campaign season so it’s once again time to ring the terror bell of RUSSIA.

Bingo. This is all Russia Russia Russia stuff. They’re perfectly happy to continue ignorning the border.

TrickyRicky in reply to TargaGTS. | February 14, 2024 at 1:43 pm

If I remember correctly, on this very blog about a week ago, the info was that ~37,000 Chinese had crossed the southern border in the recent past. That’s 3-4 divisions of Chicoms.

~37,000 Chinese nationals. That the federal government knows about. Probably several hundreds if not thousands more that have crossed the border at the behest of the CCP. All ready, willing, and able to bring down the United States at the command of Xi Jinping.

Pretty convenient if I had a foreign aid bill that needed to get past the Speaker of The House… With such immanent danger the Speaker must allow this bill to the House floor to get funding… /sarc

Idonttweet in reply to TargaGTS. | February 14, 2024 at 5:46 pm

    “CNN says it’s Russia…”

Of course they do. Whenever there’s some scandal or another, Russia is trotted out as a national security threat to distract from the scandal. Now we have a president who’s been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial by his own DOJ, and a Secretary of Homeland Security who’s been impeached for a combination of mal- and misfeasance they need to distract from, both in the same week. Now, it’s a “destabilizing Russian military capability?”

More likely to be a “destabilizing military capability” posed by tens of thousands of military-aged men from hostile countries who have been allowed to illegally enter the country in the past couple of years.

While I generally agree Iranian terrorists are sneaking across the border, what I keep wondering is why they haven’t attacked yet.

Sanddog in reply to dwb. | February 14, 2024 at 6:03 pm

They need a few million more before they can start destabilizing our elections.

Idonttweet in reply to dwb. | February 14, 2024 at 7:20 pm

My guess would be that they’re waiting to carry out some action, either with other cells in-country or coordinated with international groups. Pure supposition on my part, though.

If it were me, I wouldn’t just start randomly attacking. The border is still wide open; I’d take advantage of that to get as many operatives in-country as possible before it gets shut down.

Also, the current administration has shown a propensity to deal with us and a reluctance to take action against us. Why discourage that with premature attacks?

I’d get as many teams in place as possible while the gettin’s good and hold them in reserve for some eventuality that might require an object lesson to be provided…say…a second Trump administration? Sanctions? Military action against us?

Get the teams in place, equipped, trained up and with plans in place and then wait for the “rainy day” in which they’re needed.

Let’s say a coordinated attack that detonates “dirty” suicide bombs in three or four large, but second tier cities all at once…followed by another similar strike a few days later…then a warning: keep it up and your major cities will be next.

If I were a supervillian or an authoritarian government with terroristic tendencies, that would be my plan anyway.

    diver64 in reply to TargaGTS. | February 15, 2024 at 4:05 am

Your thinking about this country. A long term security threat could also mean foreign actions that undermine the US and it’s allies. Anyone notice in the Russia/China/Iran hysteria that Venezuela is about to invade Guyana which just happened to have one of the largest oil finds on the planet not long ago? The US has been providing military assistance to Guyana for several years and participated in half a dozen training exercises with them. If Venezuela carries out it’s threat to invade with the troops it is massing on the border this would most likely include an attack on US military personnel that are there not to mention British troops who are also there

destroycommunism | February 14, 2024 at 1:10 pm

lol

the serious threat is the leftyrino agenda

anything else that happens is just coming from the more violent wing of the lefty agenda

Bullshit.

Funny how there’s suddenly a magical ‘national security threat’ the day after Johnson refuses to pass their Ukraine funding boondoggle.

Vegas odds are on a bunch of ‘leaks’ about how Russia is AKSHUALLY a super serious threat and we need to send more money to Ukraine immediately!

Wow. That was fast.

‘BREAKING: Sources tell CNN the national security threat is a “highly concerning and destabilizing” Russian capability’

Man I don’t think I’ve ever been proven right that fast before.

OMG RUSSIA SO SCARY, SEND MONEY TO UKRAINE NOW

These pukes are so pathetically predictable.

Crawford in reply to Olinser. | February 14, 2024 at 2:15 pm

Because the hyper-aggressive country run by a KGB thug is no threat to anyone. Except all the countries they’ve invaded. And the ones they’ve threatened to invade. And their own people.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Crawford. | February 14, 2024 at 2:24 pm

Outside of their nuke arsenal, Russia poses no threat to us. Of course, the dems have been degrading our nuke capabilities, so that just shows that they don’t take any real threats seriously.

You’re worried about Russia’s threat to its “own people” … go over there to fight for them. I’ll pack you sandwiches.

Lucifer Morningstar in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | February 14, 2024 at 8:02 pm

        >>Outside of their nuke arsenal, Russia poses no threat to us.

Even with their alleged “nuclear arsenal” (what’s left of it that is) Russia poses no threat to us. None. At. All.

Olinser in reply to Crawford. | February 14, 2024 at 2:28 pm

Of course he’s a threat. And spewing hundreds of billions of dollars into Ukraine, one of the most corrupt countries in the world, so they can lose slower, isn’t stopping them. All it’s doing it getting military contractors rich.

If we actually want Russia to be beaten, NATO is going to have to fight. That discussion isn’t taking place, instead morons like you are just constantly spewing IF YOU DONT SEND MONEY RUSSIA WINS.

Russia is ALREADY WINNING. If you truly wanted them to be beaten, you’d be screaming at them to change tactics. Instead you whine when the money is cut off.

Conservatives have long since seen through this charade.

TargaGTS in reply to Olinser. | February 14, 2024 at 2:39 pm

Exactly this. The first 36-hours Biden was in office, he signed ream of Executive Orders that strengthened the economies of our biggest enemies, including Russia and Iran.

If people in this government were really worried about a growing Russian threat, then they would be doing everything they could to increase our domestic energy production. But, they aren’t doing that. Res ipsa loquitur.

alaskabob in reply to TargaGTS. | February 14, 2024 at 4:15 pm

Remember Biden pausing during the signing of all those E.O…. and someone in the room said…”just sign it”.. The rubber stamp rubber plant in the Oval Office in action.

          JohnSmith100 in reply to TargaGTS. | February 14, 2024 at 5:49 pm

The economic costs of not producing our own energy are staggering, Some renewables are duds, like ethanol, and windmills.. I do think that solar has a place for residential and small scale commercial. Our grid is in poor shape, weather events more frequent,

scaulen in reply to Olinser. | February 14, 2024 at 2:49 pm

Why doesn’t the US or Ukraine sell war bonds to protect Ukraine? The US for Ukraine war bonds would be 0% interest matured in 5 years and the Ukraine sold war bonds could have a 5% interest with maturity at 5 years. People who really want to subsidize a foreign war can put their own money up instead of all of ours.

TargaGTS in reply to Crawford. | February 14, 2024 at 2:30 pm

‘All the countries’ they’ve invaded are disputed territories and have been for centuries. Russia is such a ‘threat’ to its neighbors that almost none of them invest the TINY % of their GDP on national defense, as is required by the NATO treaty.

I’ll worry about Russia when the people who live literally right next door to Russia behave like they are worried about Russia. Until then, I’ll keep my eye on the current invasion on our southern border.

LeftWingLock in reply to TargaGTS. | February 14, 2024 at 2:33 pm

So your theory is that the actions of a country should count more than their words. Interesting concept.

TargaGTS: Russia is such a ‘threat’ to its neighbors that almost none of them invest the TINY % of their GDP on national defense, as is required by the NATO treaty.

That is incorrect. The 2% figure is a guideline for 2024 made ten years ago, not a treaty obligation. NATO as a whole will be at 2% this year, though some individual countries are still below their commitments. Germany and France will meet their commitment this year.

Wales Summit Declaration, 2014: “aim to move towards the 2% guideline within a decade”.

CommoChief in reply to Crawford. | February 14, 2024 at 3:25 pm

Interesting thesis about service with an Intel agency making one a thug. Bush SR ran the CIA before becoming President. Before that he was a 2 term Congressman, a failed Senate candidate, got Nixon to him Ambassador to the UN, then director of the CIA then an Ambassador to China then positioned himself as VP to Reagan in ’80 (this despite stiff arming Reagan’s primary run and sucking up to Nixon in ’68).

Milhouse in reply to CommoChief. | February 14, 2024 at 5:26 pm

Running the CIA does not mean “service” with it. He was an outside political appointment, so he would have had no connection with its internal culture, and would likely have been resisted and resented and led by the nose for the two years he had the job. The lefty myth that he somehow had the CIA on his side for decades thereafter is just without basis; especially after we saw how it undermined his son’s presidency and tried to bring him down.

CommoChief in reply to Milhouse. | February 14, 2024 at 6:06 pm

I would suggest that anyone serving as the Director of Central Intelligence should be at least as ruthless as those serving our adversaries Intel services such as the Soviet era KGB. Whatever else HW Bush was he was not a wimp, the man was a combat pilot in WWII joining the Navy on the day he turned 18. I suspect that he wasn’t opposed to shedding blood as necessary in the cold war.

Hominem Humilem in reply to Milhouse. | February 16, 2024 at 4:20 pm

The best evidence for his relationship with the Agency would be to see the level of enthusiasm its people had for him. As I recall, he got a friendly welcome whenever he returned to the building. Here’s something Salon published in 2019, after GHWB’s death: “Last month [December 2018], 19 senior CIA officials, current and former, signed a statement lauding the late president George H.W. Bush, who served as CIA director for one year. The agency put out a complimentary “unclassified” video about his service to the agency. Langley’s Twitter feed featured 11 straight days of photos and anecdotes about Bush’s warm relationship with America’s $15 billion a year spy service.”

There have also been reports that GHWB may have been a CIA asset during his time at Zapata Oil, but the Salon article indicates he probably wasn’t.

      Virginia42 in reply to Crawford. | February 15, 2024 at 8:33 am

Yeah, good luck with selling that right now. Nobody downplays the potential threats posed by Russia. But right now that’s not it.

Fat_Freddys_Cat | February 14, 2024 at 1:48 pm

Whatever it is I’m sure we’ll get screwed in some way “becuz emergency!”

We already know the President is on the take.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 14, 2024 at 2:21 pm

This sounds like BS to me, so far as being any real threat. I assume that’s why he wants it all declassified and exposed.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | February 14, 2024 at 2:32 pm

Zerohedge says that Turner just came back from Ukraine with this “dire threat warning”. I guess he’s stupid enough to think people will buy his Ukraine-shilling. My guess is that he has lurid tales of Russia’s hypersonic missiles (which everyone has known about for some time). Either that or the idea that the Jan 6th pipe bomber was actually Putin! Now, that would be interesting news.

So the US needs to push harder on Putin and Russia? Maybe that isn’t a really good idea since backing anyone into a corner can have consequences. On the other hand, The Swamp might get vaporized and that beats any attempt to drain the swamp. If we really knew how much waste and fraud was in this mess… a lot more people would be rooting for Russia.

CNN? Jake Sullivan?? Those sources not only lack credibility, but they should be presumed to be sources of spin, rather than information.

my bet is Chicomms and prob
Iranians…

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 14, 2024 at 2:37 pm

Two sources familiar with the issue said Turner’s statement was related to Russia and operations in space,

Russians refuse to refer to trannie astronauts by their preferred pronouns.

Just leak it like the left would do under Trump

If CNN is reporting it’s Russia, then it’s likely some shitbag in the IC leaked it to them and just happens to be coincidentally timed with the 95 billion that Mitch and the Gals helped their commie friends pass in the Senate. Now, they’ll pressure Johnson with this intelligence which is likely completely fabricated.

convenient timing…not suspicious in the least!

thalesofmiletus | February 14, 2024 at 3:05 pm

Don’t need to declassify anything — just open Biden’s garage door and have a peek.

Vile Biden, his handlers/chaperones/caretakers and DoD tried to cover up the brazen Chinese spy balloon incursion and the Dhimmi-crats’ indefensible and feckless accommodation of that balloon’s activities, until a citizen’s report made that goal impossible.

Deception, lies, obfuscation and misdirection are the Dhimmi-crats’ stock in trade. Trust that if there is a major national security threat to the U.S. homeland, from Muslim supremacists/terrorists, Chinese military personnel or illegal aliens, the American public will be the last to know about it.

How about deal with the actual immediate threat of an insecure US border? It’s not like we don’t know how many people are dying from OD on fentanyl and other illegal drugs pouring across. Or the costs imposed for supporting those allowed in from BS asylum claims. Or the scale of human trafficking going on.

Build the damn wall. Revoke the ‘parole’ and work permits, deport those present illegally, prosecute the individuals and entities who hired them or conspired to assist them. Stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to the NGOs and to the illegals.

Do that first then maybe we can discuss other borders in other places but only after the establishment shows good faith on our own borders and our own interior enforcement.

There was an earlier article about rare earth mineral deposits in Wyoming. Maybe China Joe sold all the federal land in Wyoming to China (he got 10% of the sale of course).

Let’s see now, what can it be? Maybe, unless Ukraine gets billions more in the next few days, Russia will launch missiles at us from space. Russia has imported several suitcase-sized A-bombs into the US via the southern border and we must give Ukraine all our money, fast!

If Mike Turner is involved, this has got to be fake. He is just another clown in this circus.

all this is happening when the bill to re-authorize spying in US citizens w/o a warrant is up for renewal

CommoChief in reply to MarkS. | February 14, 2024 at 6:24 pm

Yep. That vote is scheduled for tomorrow. Gonna be interesting to see who votes to extend surveillance of US Citizens via scraping data for search terms and compounded by acting without a warrant.
