Violent Anti-Israel Protesters Removed From Santa Cruz City Council Meeting by Police After Screaming, Throwing Things and Breaking a Window

“Many in the audience who supported the original cease-fire language rushed to the front of the room and hurled roaring expletives, signs and placards, and bloody, bandaged effigies at the city councilmembers.”

Anti-Israel protesters had to be removed from a city council meeting in Santa Cruz by police after they threw things at council members, hurled insults, and even broke a window in the chamber. The problem? The council declined to call specifically for a ceasefire in Israel.

These people acted out like spoiled children throwing a tantrum because they didn’t get their way. The meeting dragged on for a reported ten hours because these lunatics wouldn’t let it go and were determined to be a problem for everyone.

Lookout Santa Cruz reports:

A broken window, effigies and expletives: Inside the 10-hour Santa Cruz City Council debate over a cease-fire resolution

The Santa Cruz City Council rejected a proposed resolution calling for cease-fire between Israel and Hamas early Wednesday after 10 hours of public comment inside council chambers and demonstrations outside city hall. Instead, the city council voted 5-1 to adopt an alternate resolution, introduced by Councilmember Scott Newsome, that called for peace but dropped all references to a cease-fire.

The discussion began at 5 p.m. Tuesday and lasted until around 3 a.m. Wednesday, when the city council voted 5-2 to turn down the original resolution, written by Councilmembers Sonja Brunner and Sandy Brown (only the authors supported the resolution).

After almost half a full day’s worth of continuous, impassioned testimony from the public, the city council took the vote to turn down the original cease-fire resolution without a word of explanation. This launched a loud and somewhat violent protest from the already rambunctious crowd inside and outside city hall. Many in the audience who supported the original cease-fire language rushed to the front of the room and hurled roaring expletives, signs and placards, and bloody, bandaged effigies at the city councilmembers. Protesters outside shattered a panel of a council chamber window, directly behind City Clerk Bonnie Bush.

Mayor Fred Keeley, who had threatened multiple times throughout the evening to clear the chambers, then ordered police officers to do just that, which he estimated took “about 25 to 30 minutes.”

You can’t see the protesters in this video, but you can hear them. The tweet notes that the date on the video is wrong, so ignore it.

This is the sort of commentary that people were forced to listen to at the meeting.

Here’s a local video report:

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors recently patted themselves on the back for voting in favor of a ceasefire. We will see this happen in more blue cities. Virtue signaling, which is all this is, is very important to the left.

Why would the council allow discussion of a sovereign nation’s political affairs when they have no standing to comment, manipulate or otherwise affect the conflict in any way?
Delusions of grandeur?

Point of order, Mr. Mayor. This Council has no jurisdiction over the subject matter of this resolution.

Sustained. The clerk will strike this matter from the agenda. Next order of business, please.

Next up, a vote on what direction the sun rises. Morons.

Legislatures routinely adopt resolutions on all sorts of topics over which they have no power, supporting this and condemning that and calling for the other. Look at both houses of the US congress. There’s nothing unconstitutional about a house of Congress expressing its opinions, but that’s not its job either. Ron Paul used to vote against all such resolutions, on principle, but he was the only one with such a policy.

I’m coming to believe that the only way to break these people of this behavior is a physical beating.

The sheer idiocy on display here beggars belief. How could anyone be such an idiot to think that a city council meeting halfway around the world could have any bearing whatsoever on a war between a national and a terrorist organization?

There is no point in talking with anyone that stupid. They really just need to be punched repeatedly in the face until they learn to shut up and sit down.

I assume that there is enough video to identify all those cretions, and add them to do not hire list.

The screeching voices will be retuned by their new masters.
We will be long gone when Islam enslaves the dhimmi fool. I smile at the thought of the screechers turning their voice upon their captors and discovering that, as we students of culture and civilized society already know, life is different in reality.

    Such peaceful people, these protesters.

    It’s well past CLOBBERING TIME.

I would go with live rounds myself.
It would put an end to this crap real fast after shooting them a few times when they pull this crap.

Charge them with insurrection!

Narcissistic self-importance. They act like deeply autistic. Every little thing must be in its place or a tantrum erupts.

Arabs picked the time to start a war, now Israel gets to pick the time to end it. There are nowhere near enough dead Pales, **yet**.

It’s the only way to be sure.

You are such an idiot and an embarrassment to longtime LI commentators and financial supporters like myself. What you are posting here on LI does everything you can possibly do to try to destroy everything LI has built up over the decades. of respectability . LI probably won’t allow me to post this, but you really need to go to hell.

JR, you’re still butthurt from being taken behind the woodshed yesterday. If you had a brain in that pea-sized space between your ears, you’d note that I was responding to JohnSmith’s comment and put my words inside scare quotes to make fun of his constant exhortations to employ nuclear weapons in small territorial conflicts.

But you don’t, so you can’t.

ahad haamoratsim in reply to alien. | January 14, 2024 at 5:07 am

I guess you’ve never heard of fallout. I’d also guess you have no idea of the geography of the region. Among other things.

Ah, but ahad — I have, and I am. You missed this part in my response:

“I was responding to JohnSmith’s comment and put my words inside scare quotes to make fun of his constant exhortations to employ nuclear weapons in small territorial conflicts.”

Next stop – your condo/home owners meeting.

Behold the loving and tolerant Left.

Very white people all in all

“The meeting dragged on for a reported ten hours because these lunatics wouldn’t let it go and were determined to be a problem for everyone.”

Ten hours. We are not a nation of serious people anymore.

My same thought….10 hours on an issue which will do what and for whom? An elected table of representatives whose sole job is to take care of the financial health of the city and the residents who pay the taxes for services required. As stated many time and places in todays posts…Virtue Signaling Only. A narcissistic attitude of those who sit at the table as if they matter in the big picture of contributing to any outcome.

The unhinged leftist freaks are wearing the wrong color.

Their shirts should be brown.

Muzzies provoke a confrontation they aren’t capable of winning, so blame the city council of santa cruz, 7,500 miles away?

Woke progressive leftie logic fail.

Another mostly peaceful protest.

I’d say those people very adequately represent the left, nothing but a bunch of unhinged animals

“hurled roaring expletives”
Wait… so their speech actually WAS violence? 🤣

I avoid California like the plague, so my recall of their demographics is probably faulty, but… isn’t Santa Cruz historically one of the enclaves that is uncharacteristically conservative? Or perhaps I’m thinking of another Santa something.

Do these idiots actually think Netanyahu and the IDF give one single shit about some mid-sized city council half a world away?

I’d be willing to bet that the majority of these “activists” couldn’t even locate Israel and Gaza on a world map.

Did I miss the part where they were arrested and formally charged?

BigRosieGreenbaum | January 13, 2024 at 2:48 pm

The firing will cease when the terrorists are dead. Simple. I don’t know why they wasted any time with this insanity.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to BigRosieGreenbaum. | January 13, 2024 at 3:52 pm

They misjudged the situation and and now Hamas + are facing extinction. That is why they are demanding a cease fir.

      CincyJan in reply to JohnSmith100. | January 14, 2024 at 11:13 am

I don’t think they misjudged at all. I think the attack was timed because of the great poitical division in both the US and Israel. And I believe that division is responsible for a stunning failure of intelligence. Gaza is clearly disposable – no one cares about Gaza. Their own young men put their own families in extreme jeopardy, while being cheered on by those same families. Hamas built tunnels under hospitals. Gaza is being eviscerated as a PR stunt for world-wide support of Palestinians, and by extension Mideast Muslims. The scale of the demonstrations throughout the west speaks to the careful nurturing of pro-Palestinian ardor, especially in US academia. The demonstrations are also well financed, supposedly by Qattar here in the US. So, no, this is no mistake. This is a sickeninbg demonstration of how well-off, middle class, leftist youth can be manipulated into supporting baby killers and murdering rapists. These are the future leaders of America. And they are as rabidly idealogical as the Hamas killers.

All these rabid hate filled people keep doing is proving the point of exactly why Israel is needed , to protect Jewish people from these lunatics and I don’t just mean the protestors but the stupid government officials who pander to them. If I hear one more person say “I love Jews but I hate zionists “ , I mean honestly can they hear themselves. Sure you “love “ Jews you can control and have power over. It’s like saying you have “lots of black friends” so you cant possibly be racist.

Milhouse in reply to schmuul. | January 16, 2024 at 3:56 am

Actually if you really do have lots of black friends that is a strong indication that you are not racist. The reason claims of that form have become a popular joke is not because they don’t make sense, but because they were allegedly made by people who didn’t really have any black friends at all, and when asked to name some of them they couldn’t.

California is the land of fruits and nuts, literally and figuratively.

If I read this article correctly, no arrests were made.

The haters appear to have a “GET OUT OF JAIL FREE CARD!”

Today, in the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago, I drove by a house with a “Palestinians” flag.

This made me feel very sick!

BierceAmbrose | January 13, 2024 at 8:18 pm

Good thing for them this wasn’t a school board meeting.

So the Santa Cruz City Fathers spend 10 hours of the people’s time debating a call for peace in the ME ? Great. Reminds me of little girls playing house.

I’’m sure the Israeli Knesset is going to jump to action on the advice of a Marxist California city council right away—right after they have finished laughing and tearing up the official communication copy and telling the Santa Cruz City Council where to stick it.

This behavior is a manifestation of obnoxious, goose-stepping Muslim supremacism, intimidation, belligerence and bullying. End of story.

“Violent Anti-Israel Protesters Removed From Santa Cruz City Council Meeting by Police After Screaming, Throwing Things and Breaking a Window”

Oh, really? Why is that?

FJB

I (virtually, via Zoom) was at the City Council meeting until after 1am, and spoke in strong opposition to the ceasefire resolution. According to friends who were there, the in-person pro-Palestinian supporters were the reason Mayor Keeley had to keep asking for respect.

It was disheartening to hear those in opposition of the resolution say that it was divisive while hearing those in favor claim “it’s not divisive”. A 10 hour meeting says that it is. But I was pleased to know that the Council passed the neutral resolution they did rather than the ceasefire resolution that made no mention of either October 7th or Hamas. Literally.
