Report: Seattle VA Requested $500K to Build Hospital for Gender Transition Surgeries

How about the government concentrate on fixing the VA system as a whole to provide better care for all veterans instead of worrying about a small portion of veterans?

The Daily Caller received documents detailing a request from a Seattle, WA, VA facility asking for $500,000 for gender transition surgeries:

The facility has offered hormone therapy, minor surgeries, hair removal and other treatments for decades as part of an effort to expand procedures geared toward an estimated 12,500 nationwide veterans who have been diagnosed as gender dysphoric, according to the documents obtained by the DCNF via public records requests. But the documents and emails show that the VA medical center at Puget Sound also estimated to incur expenses of $642,562 in 2023 and more than $1.5 million by 2027 in an initial proposal to the VA’s health care system for funding to establish a genital surgery center.

Veterans Affairs Puget Sound applied to the Veteran’s Health Administration (VHA) National Surgery Office (NSO) for funding to contract surgeons, purchase equipment and hire nurses and staff for a so-called Comprehensive Gender Affirming Surgical Center (CGASC), the documents show.

The Daily Caller reported that the documents were unclear if the VA approved the request.

Terrence Hayes, a VA spokesman, said no VA facilities “have or are developing comprehensive gender-affirming care surgery centers.”

Well, Terrence, it appears that at least one facility is already brainstorming a comprehensive center.

The facility claimed that it needs to integrate “numerous clinical subspecialties,” including “Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Primary Care, Endocrinology, Social Work, Nursing, Mental Health, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy.”

“There is limited operating room capacity at VA Puget Sound HCS and University of Washington to provide these procedure,” explained the VA. “However, this is a national issue with current waitlists for certain surgeries of over two years so we hope that adding OR space in future years at the VA Puget Sound will help improve access in the longer term.”

A 2021 proposal expands the VA’s gender-affirming care abilities to include surgeries. The VA has not implemented it yet.

The VA provides hormone therapy, vocal training, prosthetics, family planning, hair removal, and sending letters of support for surgeries to surgeons and insurance companies outside of the VA.

The Daily Caller divulged the VA Puget Sound’s movements to cater to transgender veterans:

Puget Sound launched a so-called Gender Diversity Clinic tailored toward accommodating “gender diverse” veterans and training future transgender medical providers, which would be done through Puget Sound’s partnership with the University of Washington, according to the proposal.

“A Veteran’s primary medical and mental health providers as well as the gender affirming surgical team will play a role in addressing any medical, mental, spiritual, or social barriers preventing Veterans from accessing gender affirming surgery,” the proposal states.

VA Puget Sound was hosting two LGBTQ+ support groups and an outreach coordinator to “promote self-healing and care” on a veteran’s path to recovery, as the proposal writers stated. They also pledged to work alongside the facility’s DEI committee to improve alleged disparities in the experiences of “gender diverse” veterans.

The facility has already put the staff through “38 tranings on LGBTQ+ inclusion” with its LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator.

Don’t forget that the VA system is absolute crap.

$500,000 aint going to build no hospital?

What a grift

If they can’t kill innocent babies, they ruin the lives of the ones that escaped them! These libtards are clearly out of their freaking minds!

It would be better used to refurbish a wing into a mental health wing.

The VA needs to focus on taking care of veterans, not illegals and trannies

I have worked with the VA for over 50 years. The best thing to do would be to eliminate every VA hospital and provide the vets with a primo insurance. The hospitals were originally set up to care for vets with unique war related injury. The private sector is better for that now. As to the trans people, we still have psych. hospitals that can care for them and the people pushing the concept.

I am such a fascist that I would be happy to offer veterans free lifetime HMO. Would probably need to require a significant amount of service years, but frankly, it’s just an accounting question.

Except that US health care insurance is expensive and inefficient. The VA from a health care point of view has equal or better outcomes in most cases compared to non VA health care. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5215146/

      BartE,
I have worked in both systems. I have even been to Federal Court as an expert witness to defend VA doctors. You can present as many articles as you want, the VA stinks.

Veterans deserve better healthcare than Politicians. Let’s exchange it, and make the politicians pay for their own medical, while we take care of the Veterans.

As someone who was forced to medically retire from the Army I have the choice of using the VA system or the TriCare system as a retiree. I haven’t set foot in VA facility since my disability evaluations and I hope I will never have to.

Ace of S had a story on Olympia School District that made my jaw drop.

Teacher grooming a 9 year old to transition and then was stalking her after her parents fled the region (the returned to India eventually).

What was draw dropping was the parents fled during pride month- when the school district announced MANDATORY gender fluid sex ed classes all the way down to kindergarten. The timeline indicates the teacher would have been grooming the kid for a substantial period BEFORE this.

We pulled out late into the summer before our kid went into the 5th grade there.

I let my daughter who would be a year behind this girl read the article- and she commented (turning 12 this month) that these people are insane… so glad to be NOT there.

Hats off to the concerned parent that keeps getting them into the news. The rest of the community are hiding, have pulled their kids out or they full on support these perverts. Sad.

I hope it’s sooner rather than later that this “treatment” will be viewed like lobotomies. Medical malpractice imho.

Need to treat these people? Send them to a psychiatric hospital.

The problem with the VA is that rather than being a service provider, it has become an institution.

Institutions focus on their perpetuation rather than their original purpose[s].

“Transgender” surgeries reinforce mental illness. Instead of helping people, it makes them sicker, and should never be paid for with taxpayer money.
