More Plagiarism Allegations Unveiled Against Harvard President Claudine Gay

The cases allege “Gay quoted or paraphrased authors without proper attribution,” including “missing quotation marks around a few phrases or sentences to entire paragraphs lifted verbatim.

The Washington Free Beacon received new allegations of plagiarism against Harvard President Claudine Gay from Stacey Springs, the school’s research integrity officer.

The new allegations include those already reported by the Washington Free Beacon and Christopher Rufo.

In October, someone gave the New York Post information about Harvard investigating claims of allegations of plagiarism in Gay’s work. The publication said the school used power attorneys to protect Gay.

The cases allege “Gay quoted or paraphrased authors without proper attribution,” including “missing quotation marks around a few phrases or sentences to entire paragraphs lifted verbatim.

A copy of the complaint is at the bottom of the post. I will update the piece as I read through it. Thank you, Washington Free Beacon, for linking to it.

The Washington Free Beacon reported:

The full list of examples spans seven of Gay’s publications—two more than previously reported—which comprise almost half of her scholarly output. Though the Harvard Corporation said earlier this month that it initiated an independent review Gay’s work in October and found “no violation of Harvard’s standards for research misconduct,” that probe focused on just three papers.

“[I]t is impossible that your office has already reviewed the entirety of these materials,” the complaint reads, “as many … have not been previously reported or submitted.”

All allegations of faculty plagiarism must be reviewed by Harvard’s research integrity officer, according to the school’s official policies, and if deemed credible are referred for further investigation. A guilty finding can result in a range of consequences—including “suspension,” “rank reduction,” and “termination of employment.”

In determining the appropriate sanction, the school claims to consider whether the misconduct “was an isolated event or part of a pattern.”

On December 11, School choice advocate Christopher Rufo, American Conservative contributing editor Chris Brunet, and Washington Free Beacon reporter Aaron Sibarium revealed possible plagiarism in Gay’s dissertation “Taking Charge: Black Electoral Success and the Redefinition of American Policies” and two articles, “Moving To Opportunity: the Political Effects of a Housing Mobility Experiment” and “A Room for One’s Own? The Partisan Allocation of Affordable Housing.”

The report includes these articles:

  • “Between Black and White: The Complexity of Brazilian Race Relations.”
  • “The Effect of Black Congressional Representation on Political Participation.”
  • “Spirals of Trust? The Effect of Descriptive Representation on the Relationship between Citizens and Their Government.”
  • “Fighting Poverty, Mobilizing Voters: Housing Investment and Political Participation.”

The complaint included an allegation that Gay plagiarized her acknowledgments in her dissertation.

Will any of her articles not contain plagiarized material?

According to Gay, “Almost all absurdity of conduct arises from the imitation of those whom we cannot resemble.”

“When it rains, it pours!”

Slogan from Morton Salt. Not plagiarized! That’s how it’s done.

C’mon now Harvard Board of Trustees! Double down and circle those wagons!

Well, this is what can happen when you’re an intellectual lightweight/poser who has benefitted from Affirmative Action in action…

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | December 19, 2023 at 3:38 pm

her scholarly output

I find that phrase intellectually offensive.

There is nothing “scholarly” about anything Gay has done. Her work has been on a 7th grade level, if that.

I would really like to see Gay’s SAT scores (maybe a GRE or two) and an IQ test score. I think that would end this whole issue in no time. I’d like to see someone request this information from Hah-vahd so we could hear how they try to weasel their way out of that.

I bet she wasn’t required to take the SAT, GRE or the GMAT. She was an adult Affirmative Action student who probably needed tutoring to meet the entry level freshman undergraduate course requirements.

Congratulations AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. You have won the most racist comment today on LI. G_d help us if anyone other than you and your racist friends read your comments here. I remember many years ago when LI didn’t allow such racist comments.

spappas in reply to JR. | December 19, 2023 at 7:23 pm

        Affirmative action is also racist!

That is not racist. If it was not a black person that was placed beyond their Peter Principle threshold, JR, you would not have called it racist. Ms. Gay is not deserving of her position or her degree.

        AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to JR. | December 20, 2023 at 7:07 am

        GFY Junior.

Do you honestly believe I give a shit about you calling me a racist?

To you, everyone on this site is a racist if they point out factual evidence that has to anything to do with anyone who is not lilly white.

Comment about Muslim terrorists – Junior calls them racists.

Comment about blacks who are clearly idiots and recipients of affirmative action support to a level of incompetence beyond their abilities – Junior calls them racists.

Make a comment about military age males invading our borders – who just so happen to have skin other than junior’s lilly white – Junior calls them racist.

Well, let me clue you in you incompetent asshat…. YOU are the racist. Because you believe anyone who is not lilly white needs a WHITE SAVIOR, YOU have decided you will be the defender of anyone who is not lilly white. To you, anyone who is not lilly white is too stupid to get an ID card, driver’s license, operate a computer, or do anything else YOU and your ilk have ordained as beyond the scope and ability of anyone not like YOU.

YOU support those who use their race as a trump card and crutch because they choose not to engage society using their talents.

So, please know, shit for brains, I don’t give a fk about you or what you think.

And if it gets me kicked off this site, I don’t give a damn either.

It will be proof of just another place where meritocracy has gone to die, at the hands of retards like you.

Don’t bother responding. You’d be better suited to jacking off in your momma’s basement

A product of (affirmative) Hire Education. Not earned but granted. Dr. Jill and her Plagiarist-in-Chief must have been her role model for restorative degrees…even if white.

I agree that her scholarly writings are intellectually offensive.. However, it is also clear that you have never even read one sentence of any of any her writings. You see her name, her race, her position, and then you just demonize her because she is Black. That is racism. I hope you are proud of your racism. Welcome to the commentators club at LI. Why don’t you give us your real name and your real IQ so we can compare the two?

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to JR. | December 19, 2023 at 7:58 pm

Why don’t you give us your real name and your real IQ so we can compare the two?

Huh? WHy do you want to compare my real name to my real IQ?

Oh … that’s just your jumbled, confused way of saying that you think I would lose in a comparison with the gargoyle-looking Hah-vahd Prez.

      LOL.

I don’t have to give you my “real IQ”, as if it isn’t even silly to ask for such. You can assess my intelligence from my comments. They are my thoughts and my words and I stand behind them. They are more trustworthy as a gauge than any claims I might write as to my IQ score. But I guarantee you that if I were in a public position I would have no problem publishing my transcripts and scores and tests. I’m pretty proud of them, though I don’t like the idea of throwing them in anyone’s face.

As to my name, I enjoy anonymity for my internet commentary for a whole host of reasons. But my views are the same no matter where I am or who I am with.

inspectorudy in reply to JR. | December 19, 2023 at 9:35 pm

No, she is a dishonest mediocre person who could have never made it to the PhD level on her own. But because of affirmative action, she was pushed just like obama to a position she could have never earned honestly. For Harvard to protect this person who probably couldn’t have made it into the halls of Harvard, is to tarnish their good name and all who matriculated from there.

henrybowman in reply to JR. | December 19, 2023 at 11:09 pm

“However, it is also clear that you have never even read one sentence of any of any her writings.”

That is quite unlikely, as her plagiarized works have appeared in many places, including at least two articles here at LI.

How about truth, “her scholarly output” came while she was on the throne.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | December 19, 2023 at 3:42 pm

This is incredible: In her dissertation, Claudine Gay plagiarized the language of her acknowledgment from the acknowledgment of another scholar,

LOL.

That is really the bottom of the retard barrel, there.

Did she sign her paper, “Epstein’s Mother”?

Nice try, but things like academic integrity and honesty are white supremacist constructs

    lady_knight in reply to SeymourButz. | December 20, 2023 at 1:28 pm

So you are asserting that non whites have no guiding constructs to their conduct or laws. You do realize that much of the US Constitution and how America was defined is written based on the Iroquois “Great Law of Peace”? So by your statement you throw Native Americans into the mix as they set laws about not taking words from each other before whites came to the continent. You can come to Syracuse NY to the Ska-Nonh Great Center of Peace and learn all about it!

I’m betting that it will eventually be determined that she is an Equal Opportunity Plagiarist:

Rather than have plagiarism in just a few of her “works”, it will be found in EVERYTHING she has written.

I’m not sure what is worse, her plagiarism, or Harvard’s continued support for her.

Harvard’s support. Without it she would just be a disgraced scholar, like so many. With it she gets to infect entire generations of Harvard students.

“unvelied”?

Bu… bu… but… — Gay is a woman “of color.” And, a card-carrying, staunch Dhimmi-crat. She can do no wrong!

It’s not just Harvard.

If you really want to go to college, go abroad.

1. No DEI Gestapo
2. No AA Apparatchiks
3. Your intellect and worldview will be expanded , not contracted.
4. And you’ll probably save yourself a nice chunk of change.

What a bad sad joke this Harvard shows itself to be.

Another emperor who wears no clothing atall.

And the mayor of Boston is a Harvard grad who now sets back race relations in America by a few decades.

Serious question: Since 2021, has ANYTHING positive come out of ANY policy initiative from the democrats or the left ?

Energy?
Inflation?
Covid?
Foreign policy?
Drug Addiction/Homelessness?
The debt?
Street crime?
Border security?
I-12 education?
Election integrity?

I don’t understand this attack on Gay. I see no reason to help that vile anti-Semitic institution improve itself. I encourage Harvard to hire and empower all the racist, plagiarist clowns it can get its fat fingers on.

“In that case,” said Napoleon, “let us wait twenty minutes; when the enemy is making a false movement we must take good care not to interrupt him.”

I’m curious – what if someone plagiarizes Claudine Gay’s already plagiarized text? Since she didn’t actually own it in the first place, can there be secondary plagiarism?

A lot of the commenters here are lawyers. Plagiarism by a lawyer is different than academic plagiarism. You’re supposed to copy a colleague’s old motion or wills or contracts or whatever. This is an appropriate use of time.

Concise in reply to spappas. | December 19, 2023 at 8:33 pm

I don’t know about that. You can’t cite a controlling rule without citing the precedent.

henrybowman in reply to Concise. | December 19, 2023 at 11:13 pm

      Sure, citation.
But the idea behind legal briefs is to armor yourself in suit of everyone else’s precedent. Originality is risky. Copying is the biggest virtue.

On the Dennis Prager Show for 19 Dec 2023 hosted by Julie Hartman, Dr. Carol Swain, who was heavily plagiarized by Claudine Gay, referred to Gay not as Dr. Gay but Ms. Gay in an opinion piece for the Wall Street Journal. I think that fits Ms. Gay quite well as Ms. Gay got her PHd with a plagiarized theses and should not have received the degree.

Ms. Gay is a poster child for Affirmative Action!

Harvard students are already paying the price as several law firms have announced they will not recruit from Harvard. It is likely many business will do the same although not say so publicly. Those who continue to recruit from Harvard deserve to be publicly ostracized.

I did enjoy the play “Hamlet” that she wrote.

But why is anyone putting any effort into uncovering evidence of plagiarism on her part? She’s a black woman with the last name “Gay” — it’s not like anyone is going to do anything about that pesky copying stuff she does.

I’m seeing a pattern emerging of inept black women destroying everything they are in charge of operating.
“Shot Down in Flames” AC/DC
Not difficult 😉

Claudine Gay is DEI hack who has been promoted beyond her competency level, not unlike kamala. Now harvard can’t get rid out her without being called racist. This is object lesson for other colleges to not repeat harvard’s blunder.

She’s a post turtle.

It’s becoming tedious to update the count every time they find another missing citation. Suggest we move to larger units of plagiarism, say “Bidens.”

She’d be at what, a solid 2-Bidens, about now?
