More Than 40 Anti-Israel Students Arrested at Brown University Following ‘Sit-in’ at University Hall

“Students were told to leave University Hall by the time it closed at 5 p.m.”

This is the second time in a few weeks that there have been arrests at Brown over the same issue. Where do school leaders think this is headed?

WJAR News reports:

Brown University students arrested after walkout

Brown University students held a pro-Palestine walkout on Monday to demand divestment from the university and justice for a student shot in Vermont.

Brown University Palestine Solidarity Caucus said it held the walkout at noon.

University officials told NBC 10 that 41 students were arrested after refusing to leave.

Students were told to leave University Hall by the time it closed at 5 p.m.

However, students were still there around 6:30 p.m.

The group said the walkout was in protest of the university’s complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza and its lack of commitment to protecting Palestinian students.

NBC 10 crews observed a large group of students gathered outside the Brown Investment office.

The organizing group said the event included a series of speeches from grad workers and students and, also had a reading of remarks by Hisham Awartani, one of the three Palestinian students shot in Vermont in November.

The school said students are participating in a sit-in at the University Hall building on campus.

Brown University President Christina Paxson said that she expects students to leave the building by 5 p.m., which is the end of normal operating hours.

I want to hear “arrested and expelled.”

Students that ignorant are just taking up the spaces for real students.

I believe there is a serious misunderstanding of the nature of “civil disobedience.” If a person feels so strongly that he is right and that society is wrong, he can demonstrate that by deliberately breaking the law in protest and then acept the consequences. So, many peopled admired Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for going to the Birmingham jail.

The college students of today believe in Teflon protesting, where no consequences are visited upon the protestor. They seemed surprised that they are arrested for trespass. That is what a “building occupation” or “building takeover” is all about. The protestors trespass, and then pay the price, as a measure of the strength of their commitment. One should not expect to be catered milk and cookies.

It seems that Brown is showing more backbone here than Cornell, Penn, Harvard or MIT. I thought Brown was a very lefty place, but good for them and putting the others to shame.

Oh, these ignorant students ! There is NO Genocide in Israel and I am really getting tired of these students who know NOTHING about the real situation in Israel complaining and protesting about something that they are misled and uninformed about!
