Javier Milei Sworn in as Argentine President, Immediately Slashes Ministries in Half

“Long live liberty, damn it!”

Libertarian and freedom lover Javier Milei is the new Argentine president. Victoria Villarruel, a devout Catholic (REAL devout, not “devout” like Joe Biden), is the vice president.

Milei spoke to the people outside of the legislature instead of lawmakers. It’s a powerful image. The optics fit his campaign and promises to cut government and return prosperity to the people:

Breaking with tradition, Milei then delivered his inaugural address to supporters outside, instead of assembled lawmakers, with his back turned to the legislature.

During his speech, he blamed the outgoing lawmakers for putting Argentina on the path toward hyperinflation, saying the political class “has ruined our lives.”

“In the last 12 years, GDP per capita fell 15% in a context in which we accumulated 5,000% inflation. As such, for more than a decade we have lived in stagflation. This is the last rough patch before starting the reconstruction of Argentina,” Milei said. “It won’t be easy; 100 years of failure aren’t undone in a day. But it begins in a day, and today is that day.”

Milei added:

“I prefer to tell you the uncomfortable truth, rather than a comfortable lie,” he said, as crowds cheered “freedom,” waving Argentina’s blue-and-white national flag.

“There is no alternative to an adjustment, a fiscal shock,” Milei said. “It will impact employment, the most needy and it’s true: there will be stagflation. But it will not be very different to the last 12 years and this is the last difficult pill we need to swallow before we can begin the reconstruction of Argentina,” he said. “There is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Milei declared, “Long live liberty, damn it!”

Milei, who is in the process of converting to Judaism, brought up Hanukah, too.

What is one of the first things Milei does?

He keeps his promise of slashing ministries in Argentina.

The final number is 9, but some have said it started with 21, 19, or 18.

Either way, Milei cut a lot of ministries:

URGENT: Javier Milei passes the chainsaw for the first time OFFICIALLY and signs the reduction of ministries in Argentina from 19 to 9 ministries, eliminating 10 ministries at once. Do you support this forceful measure by President Javier Milei?

I know I support it!

Milei greeted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is Jewish. After a tight, meaningful hug, Milei showed his solidarity with Zelensky.

Milei also gifted Zelensky with a silver menorah.

It was a wonderful moment.

As I said, Villarruel is Catholic and Milei is converting to Judaism.

They prayed after the inauguration.

Milei met with families of the hostages and lit a menorah. He vowed to declare Hamas a terrorist organization.

This is the sort of desperately needed approach to vigorously trimming our bloated federal government. The time for talking about doing it has passed, we have far too many politicians who flap their gums but fail to deliver.

If the Constitution were followed to its stated text, fedgov would be no more than 5% its present size. The entire thesis of the document was to LIMIT the created government.

The freedom/liberty of which the Founders/Framers spoke was freedom FROM government. When freed of the burdens of government people then are free to pursue their own interests.

The ideal of “self-government” has been corrupted to mean “we elect people to run our lives for us,” when it’s supposed to mean “each person governs themselves.”

    Correct.

Shut down the majority of the federal government, and turn those duties over to the states.

Keep the tax levels the same for three years, pay down the debt, and then reduce taxes.

If the states want to provide gender studies in their schools, let them convince their own taxpayers to cover the cost. But Tennessee should not pay for California crap. You want bike trails? Pay for it yourself.

Defund all universities until they follow the constitution.

But most important, put the Godless federal civil service out of work. Put government contractors out of work.

Only pay for the responsibility of the government outlined in the constitution.

Could the president move the EPA to the north slope of Alaska in a warehouse without computers and phones?

Does Zelensky own a suit?

¡Afuera! ¡Afuera! ¡Afuera!

Would he consider running for U.S. President in 2024?

Maybe he has a brother or sister… Yeah, I know, not a citizen, but the term is so mangled nowadays by the leftists, maybe we can use it against them.

Glad to see bold actions instead of words.

Every Western country should be taking notes.

Imagine how many problems and cash leaks would be resolved by eliminating half of the useless, duplicative agencies our fed govt has birthed over the years. A thorough scrub and justification process of the budget would eliminate many of them. But having the Damocles’ sword of elimination hanging over their heads would spur that along.

Remember, the functions of over 50% of fed employees are so unimportant that they can work unsupervised at home.

Are you not aware that putting accountants to work on the Budget was one of Trump’s big sins as President? It got the whole bureaucracy mad at him, almost as if they think we owe them a living.

gonzotx in reply to Valerie. | December 11, 2023 at 11:05 am

Exactly. President Trump was sabotaged every which way

He wasn’t just words, our titans deep state is evil

No way ANY President would be ALLOWED to do whet this guy is attempting and live

      No way

Bureaucrats didn’t sign the Omnibus bill, Trump did that. And by doing so forfeited the ability to negotiate with Paul Ryan and Company.

The f’d Trump, but Trump handed them the means to do so.

Was wondering when someone would mention The Orange Crush.

I still can’t decide whether I was more pleased or more surprised with the actual govt stuff he did.. The last thing I expected from a NYC real estate developer become reality TV impresario was his policy bundle. That he’s just hilarious was a bonus.

In the end, do we care if our El Heffe has weird hair, or Twitter-X logorrhea? Gavin Newsom and Justin Trudeau have great hair. And Nancy Pelosi cares so much about hers, she’s willing to violate quarantine to get touched up.

Maybe they dragged Brandon into office thinking the bad hair was what got stuff done?

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to Gosport. | December 11, 2023 at 10:40 am

Those should be the first to go. If they don’t show up, they don’t get paid.

Make it mandatory beginning the next duty day, and if they fail to show, terminate for job abandonment.

Catholic Brazil is going to be very comfortable with a convert as President. I hope he’s straightforward about what he’s learning.

And then, maybe the locals can make their Confirmation ceremonies more like a bar- or bat mitzvah.

I have a personal theory that the experience of spending months learning how to speak in a foreign language, as well as make a presentation in front of the congregation is excellent training for citizenship.

Catholics are shameless copycats, and this is a tradition they should copy.

Just like Donald Trump! Oh wait…

I understand that Javier has even taken to using Alberto VO2.5.

All well and good if “reducing the number of ministries by half” means their offices are abolished, and doesn’t merely mean that their offices will be absorbed into the remaining ministries.

Half? Well I Guess that’s a start,

A Jewish, pro-free market libertarian/conservative. Guaranteed to drive Leftists and Dhimmi-crats crazy!

Wow. I bet Trump wishes he were Milei. We sure as hell expected him to be.

“Milei spoke to the people outside of the legislature instead of lawmakers.”
Isn’t it curious how our entire MSM does not mention his name without also appending “libertarian,” but as yet none have seen fit to label him a “populist?”

“IRS, Fed, NSA, DHS, FBI, CIA, DOE, CDC, FDA, FEC… AFUERA!”
No ATF? No DEA? This is not the Libertarian Party I recognize.

Milei accomplished more in 24 hours than Republicans delivered in 30 years.

President Compassionate Conservative Bush created the DHS Frankenstein. Not Pelosi or Durbin or Obama. Bush.

That was when I registered Libertarian. Not that there are any seemingly sane libertarian candidates that I can vote for. But F Bush and John McCain and Jeff Flake and Murkowski et al.

There’s talk regarding Milie being some sort of IMF hand-puppet in waiting; the IMF will co-opt his administration and sabotage all chance of an organic, long term, recovery.

How he reduces the price of a loaf of bread from a wheelbarrow full of worthless paper money to seventy cents is key to everything else that follows.

Milei, who is in the process of converting to Judaism

He is not in the process of converting. It’s something he’s thought of, and that he might like to do eventually, but he has no concrete plans. Even if he had, they would now be on hold, because keeping the Sabbath while being president would be very difficult.

Also, unless his girlfriend is also interested in converting, his doing so alone would mean he’d have to end the relationship, which, if it’s a good one, would be a great pity and not something any rabbi I know would recommend.

In the meantime he’s studying Judaism and is a definite philosemite, but he’s not yet up to becoming a member of the tribe.

He might just like wearing a kippah without adopting the added baggage.

Milhouse in reply to Tiki. | December 11, 2023 at 11:08 pm

He’s welcome to adopt as much or as little of the practices as suits him, without taking that fateful step of joining the Jewish nation. So long as he remains a gentile, and thus not bound by Jewish law, he can pick and choose what fits with his lifestyle and what doesn’t. Conversion is a naturalization, becoming a citizen, and it requires a sincere pledge to obey t

Milhouse in reply to Tiki. | December 11, 2023 at 11:11 pm

Oops, I don’t know what happened there.

…to obey that nation’s laws, and an acknowledgment that one will now be under that nation’s jurisdiction and thus subject to the penalties it prescribes should one violate the law.
