IDF Mistakenly Kills Three Israeli Hostages Who Escaped Hamas And Were Mistaken For Terrorists During Heavy Firefight

“The IDF began investigating the incident immediately.”

Tragic.

The IDF accidentally killed three Israeli hostages during heavy fighting with Hamas in Gaza. The three hostages escaped the group, or the terrorists abandoned them. The IDF mistakenly identified them as terrorists.

It is common for Hamas to dress as civilians.

The IDF has also “encountered many terrorists, including suicide bombers” in the area.

IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari tweeted in a long thread (auto translated):

During the fighting in Shejaiya, an IDF force mistakenly identified three Israeli hostages as a threat. As a result the force fired at them and they were killed.

During a scan and inspection of the area of the incident, a suspicion arose regarding the identity of the dead. The bodies were taken for examination in Israeli territory, after which it turned out that they were three Israeli abductees >>

Their bodies were examined at the “Deer Center” in Shura camp, where the abductees were identified:
The late Yotam Haim, who was kidnapped from Kfar Gaza by the terrorist organization Hamas on October 7.
The late Samer Talalka, who was kidnapped from Nir Am by the terrorist organization Hamas on October 7.
A message was also given to the family of the third abductee, at whose request his name will not be given now >>

The messages were delivered to their families by representatives of the IDF and the Israel Police.

The IDF began investigating the incident immediately. This is a combat zone where there have been many incidents in recent days. Immediate lessons from the event are now being passed on to all the fighting forces in the field >>

The IDF expresses deep sorrow for the incident and shares in the grief of the families. The IDF will continue to act in all efforts to return the abductees home.

I cannot imagine how the families and soldiers must feel right now. I hope they receive any and all help they need to get through this horrible time.

It’s a war and in wars sometimes, well quite often, shit happens.

It’s sad this happened but Hamas has sole responsibility for the death of these three civilians.

no. Hamas killed them.

Hamas killed them when they kidnapped them from their homes.

Hamas used the IDF as the weapon for their deaths, but make no mistake:

Hamas. Killed. Them.

Exactly. These poor hostages wouldn’t have been in this position in the first place, were it not for these evil Muslim terrorist-thugs’ atrocities and crimes.

Their deaths are still the fault of Hamas and those 75% of Gazans whom support Hamas. There should be 100,000 Gazans killed per Israeli death to atone for their sins. There should be enough deaths to turn Hamas’s claims into a large undercount.

It is common for Hamas to dress as civilians.

There are no “Hamas uniforms”. They are always dressed as civilians, except for wearing their green headbands when they like to parade around. But they are nothing but a guerrilla force. Actually, hamas is more of a gorilla force.

hamas’ main defense is to blend in with the population and the population is very happy to have hamas blend in with them.

This begs the question of how are they identifying terrorists that need to be targeted? What was it about these poor escaped prisoners that made them a threat that needed to be eliminated?

That’s why the incident is being investigated by the IDF.

Tragically, the hostages apparently escaped into the middle of a very hot combat action. They were military age males not in IDF uniform in a situation where the odds of them being anything other than Hamas were phenomenal.

So much sympathy to the Israeli families. Hamas has much to answer for, including these three deaths.

The whole point is that Hamas intentionally hides among civilian’s, a similar problem to what American police face when dealing with black males.

Try to be more racist. You can do better. So black males in the US are hiding under hospitals, schools, and firing thousands of rockets onto white America? Black Americans have hundreds of miles of tunnels in America where they come up out of to terrorize white Americans? Black Americans have a jihad to kill all white Americans? You need to climb back under that dirty slimy rock where you live. And take off your fuc-ing white KKK hood.

        JohnSmith100 in reply to JR. | December 15, 2023 at 8:05 pm

A cop is 40X more likely to be murdered by a black male. You can be that cops understand this. I have never had any use for the KKK, and you are probably an Arab version of KKK.

I want to see blacks succeed on merit, unfortunately too few make the grade. That is not because whites are holding them back, During my career I was just as willing to help a black as any other race as long as they had merit. I did so many times.

What a load of bull. In 2017 the FBI compiled comprehensive stats on Officers killed in the line of duty. Of the 44 offenders who killed 45 Cops, all were male. 26 were white and 16 black with the other 2 other.

If your going to be a racist then at least the numbers right and stop relying on people being too lazy to look up your nonsense claims for themselves

      What?

Hopefully, there will be no Hamas to answer. This is sad, but all Palestinians should be held responsible.

Most certainly Pales who supported Hamas deserve the same fate, considering what they did to Israelis, men, women, children and babies, I would not mind if they suffer, but on balance I would be satisfied if they have a quick death as long as the get everyone who has it coming, and I will not be too upset if there is collateral damage. Is that clear Thad Jarvis?

Double tragedy.

I predict Hamas did this on purpose to try and slow down the IDF annihilation of them.

Lots more info out today. IDF effed up, didn’t have PID (Positive ID), instead just fired. Then one escaped hostage is dead, another wounded and prone the third ducked into a door/vestibule for cover. They yell help in Hebrew and another IDF Soldier opens up. All three died.

IMO, this is amateurish. The hostages did what they are supposed to do. They had a white shirt on a makeshift pole and called out in Hebrew. They made contact by calling out in Hebrew to ID themselves and stood in the open so IDF could take the time to make initial ID, assessment and take them into custody. In this situation you will be treated as prisoner until you get to a rear area and get interrogated and they are 100% certain.

The escaped hostages seem to have been following the book based on news reports. Very poor on the part of the IDF. I can’t imagine they get less training on this sort of scenario than US forces and the escaped hostages followed their training.

Possible that the IDF screwed up. Before judging them, would like to see a rather complete accounting. Also aware that in extreme circumstances, even simple simple tasks are difficult. Combat is one of those extreme circumstances, and reviews of actions (or non-actions) should take that into account.

This is truly a tragedy and is not a rare occurrence in war. However, before we attack the IDF’s soldiers and their training, remember our own Pat Tillman who was in uniform.
The “fog of war” (Nebel des Krieges) is real.
