Harvard Board Reaffirms ‘Support for President Gay’s Continued Leadership’

“Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.”

Harvard University’s governing board members have decided to back President Claudine Gay despite numerous missteps during her short tenure.

“As members of the Harvard Corporation, we today reaffirm our support for President Gay’s continued leadership of Harvard University,” they wrote. “Our extensive deliberations affirm our confidence that President Gay is the right leader to help our community heal and to address the very serious societal issues we are facing.”

Gay has faced massive backlash over the intense antisemitism plaguing Harvard, especially since October 7 when Hamas invaded, murdered, raped, and kidnapped thousands of Jews.

Students have consistently called for the genocide of Jews.

Gay has hidden behind the First Amendment, even though we all know how Harvard treats conservatives.

Gay didn’t help matters during a Congressional hearing when she wouldn’t oppose or condemn those who screamed for the liquidation of Jews at Harvard. She made it worse with her empty apology for the disastrous Congressional hearing.

“So many people have suffered tremendous damage and pain because of Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack, and the University’s initial statement should have been an immediate, direct, and unequivocal condemnation,” the board continued. “Calls for genocide are despicable and contrary to fundamental human values. President Gay has apologized for how she handled her congressional testimony and has committed to redoubling the University’s fight against antisemitism.”

How about the plagiarism allegations? School choice advocate Christopher Rufo, American Conservative contributing editor Chris Brunet, and Washington Free Beacon reporter Aaron Sibarium found many instances of plagiarism in Gay’s Ph.D. dissertation and at least three essays.

Carol Swain, author of Black Faces, Black Interests, confirmed to Rufo that Gay plagiarized her material.

What does Harvard say? Oh…they knew about the writings in October:

With regard to President Gay’s academic writings, the University became aware in late October of allegations regarding three articles. At President Gay’s request, the Fellows promptly initiated an independent review by distinguished political scientists and conducted a review of her published work. On December 9, the Fellows reviewed the results, which revealed a few instances of inadequate citation. While the analysis found no violation of Harvard’s standards for research misconduct, President Gay is proactively requesting four corrections in two articles to insert citations and quotation marks that were omitted from the original publications.

That’s weird. Rufo and Brunet published Harvard’s policy, and, well, it certainly sounds like Gay violated the plagiarism policy:

“When you paraphrase, your task is to distill the source’s ideas in your own words. It’s not enough to change a few words here and there and leave the rest; instead, you must completely restate the ideas in the passage in your own words. If your own language is too close to the original, then you are plagiarizing, even if you do provide a citation.”

Black privilege for this affirmative action hire. What a joke.

    Yeah, but what about plagairism?

That has no bearing on AA hires, silly rabbit.

artichoke in reply to Peabody. | December 12, 2023 at 1:32 pm

It’s starting to look correlated though, with the two most infamous cases being MLK and now Claudine Gay.

Peabody in reply to artichoke. | December 12, 2023 at 2:29 pm

Peabody: Another reason she should be fired is that she’s a plagairizer.

Harvard board member: That has no bearing on this case.

        Peabody: Yeah, but….

Harvard board member: She’s an AA hire and that’s the only thing that matters!

Really? Joe Biden isn’t in the top two?

Peabody in reply to henrybowman. | December 12, 2023 at 5:52 pm

          You mean like this?

Unknown person writes a question with an answer
Biden’s aide gives reporter question to ask
Biden calls on reporter at news conference
          Reporter reads the question
          Biden reads the answer

Neither Biden nor reporter give credit to the person who wrote the question and answer.

But it does in the sense that a white male or white female [and maybe black male] would suffer the consequences of demotion or termination, but a black female “leader … LOL” can commit these sins without fear of any consequences. That Harvard Board of Trustees is nothing more than a band of hypocritical fools.

It’s more like woke privilege, or Qatari money privilege. Her career for a long time has been a giant “FU” to those with traditional ideas of what is worthy in academia, and now they won’t even demote her after she is shown to commit the worst sort of academic sin. Maybe they couldn’t find a bigger “FU” to replace her with.

Their biggest concern in life is to oppress traditionalists and their ideological supports, which seem to be non-leftist Jews (and they’ll turn against the leftists too without a thought) and Israel, the people of the book that is the foundation of old western society.

The DEI Melanin Shield of Invincibility holds strong

The donors and potential donors to Harvard should show their disapproval of her leadership by cancelling and/or withdrawing their financial contributions.

artichoke in reply to MattMusson. | December 12, 2023 at 1:23 pm

Yeah, but this was plagiarism, the signature academic sin. She is now an infamous academic-criminal, and Harvard should have automatically removed her from the presidency and said they were opening a plagiarism investigation. Upon confirmation, they should have fired her. The lowest community college would do the same.

Harvard destroyed itself in public here, and it couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of assholes, I say with apologies to graduates like Ackman and Stefanik who called them out.

artichoke in reply to artichoke. | December 12, 2023 at 1:25 pm

Fired her, as in kicking her off the faculty and totally out of a job at Harvard. This easily overcomes tenure protection. Legally it should be no trouble at all.

Got to edumacate dem boyz on how to build ATM skimmers and use Flippers to hack WiFi passwords.

According to the revisionists, the black man had already built huge societies of peace before the white man destroyed it.
Who needs Harvard? Use the generational skill you have posessed since the dawn of time, and enslave yourself for the umpteenth time.

The board will support her and support her and support her right up until the millisecond they shove her under the bus and declare she resigned ‘spontaneously’ And then they’ll hire somebody even more biased and DEI worshiping.

Meanwhile in legal related news, SCOTUS is considering whether or not to let Jack Smith by-pass the DC Appeals Court and let the Supremes decide on presidential immunity

MattMusson in reply to gonzotx. | December 12, 2023 at 12:46 pm

Look for the SCOTUS to punt on this. They will likely decide the entire court needs to take up the question – after the election. Then, things could well be mute. And, it would put a hold on Smith’s kangaroo court.

It is time to vet the poison ivy league like you would a candidate.

“Harvard Board Reaffrims support for Claudine Gay”

Did you expect anything else? If you did, they have a room for you at the nut house.

Peabody in reply to Peabody. | December 12, 2023 at 11:32 am

Now that you have been reaffirmed by the board, what are your plans for the future?

Follow Columbia’s lead, divest from Israel, crack down on Jews and supporters of Israel, get things moving in a postive direction and change the world for the better. From the river to the sea, baby!”

I’m not surprised she’s going to survive her antisemitism problem. That’s just the nature of academia today. But, I am surprised – even shocked – that she’s apparently going to survive her plagiarism problem. It’s one of the most egregious series of examples I can remember, particularly for someone of her lofty status. There will be no doubt that students in the next several months will be dismissed from Harvard – BY HER or her designees – whose plagiarism problems are far less….provable.

artichoke in reply to TargaGTS. | December 12, 2023 at 1:16 pm

and on minor things like term papers, not a dissertation. This is really the most amazing academic fraud I’ve ever heard of, and Harvard won’t even run away from her, proving they have absolutely no academic standards at all.

She’s a mere piker in regard to plagiarism. Gang rapist, MLK, Jr., plagiarized almost his entire doctoral thesis according to Boston University itself. It decided.not to revoke his doctorate posthumously because he had a dream or something.

artichoke in reply to E Howard Hunt. | December 12, 2023 at 1:13 pm

MLK didn’t claim to be an academic and have an academic career. He got out of BC with his degree and used the heck out of the title, but he didn’t build a whole fraudulent academic career on it. He didn’t have a whole career at the same university that supported his fraud, with nobody uttering a peep while some besides just his advisors must have known.Boston College didn’t say it was great or continue to employ him.

Claudine Gay is a really amazing fraud, and it’s only in clown world that Harvard is embracing her rather than pushing her as far away as possible.

“Lord Marshal Gay: take us to the Underverse!”

LongTimeReader | December 12, 2023 at 1:08 pm

Every right of center speaker and loud supporter of Israel should arrange to speak at Harvard and put Gay’s free speech allowance to the test.

Oh they want to support her for the sake of societal issues!

One important and current societal issue is the excessive respect given to the wealthiest Ivy League institutions. They are curing that in a rather permanent way, in the case of Harvard at least.

Thank you, Harvard governing board. You are helping to cure our society of the sickness brought on by the leftist educational establishment.

I would hate to be a Jewish student at Harvard now. Before they could hope that by appealing to the administration, they could be protected from intimidation and worse by the Hamas-loving students with their calls for genocide. Now with the vote of confidence for Gay by the Harvard corporation, they have been told that they don’t count. The student mobs can do whatever they want, and there will be no repercussions.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to Richard. | December 12, 2023 at 4:33 pm

Not only Jewish students, but any Jewish faculty should be ready for a Krystalnacht soon. And by ready, I mean having an emergency evac plan in place and be in the process of transferring to a school in America.

    Subotai Bahadur

Harvard president gay and the word ‘leadership’ should not be used in same sentence.

DEI hack.

Harvard’s mission is advancing knowledge, research, and discovery that will help address deep societal issues and promote constructive discourse,

Huh?

This is a joke, right? The Hah-vahd board is giving us the transcript of their upcoming stand-up routine at open mic night.

“Harvard Board Reaffirms ‘Support for President Gay’s Continued Leadership”

Oy! THAT you call leadership?!?

“President Gay is proactively requesting four corrections in two articles to insert … quotation marks that were omitted from the original publications.”

One at the beginning, and another one at the end.

Education is the US is shot. The universities to elementary system is not good. Me and my wife went to college in the mid to late 70s.

We saw how bad the middle and HS system had gotten for our two sons as they were in different grades, and we did not get anywhere with the teachers, admin, or school board. We ended up tutoring our sons through each class to teach them properly. This lead us to send them to Trade Schools in the early 2000s, as it was less then half a year of college and they make well over 6 figures, and have good careers.

Her presence in that gig does for them what they want. If you want something else, be somewhere else, and deal with different people.
