West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin Will Not Seek Re-Election

Moderate Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin from West Virginia announced he won’t seek re-election:
MANCHIN: “Today West Virginia’s attracting more investment, opportunity and jobs than it has in decades. Here at home and across the country, we are building more roads, bridges, manufacturing plants and energy infrastructure than almost any time in America’s history. After months of deliberation and long conversation with my family, I believe in my heart of hearts that I’ve accomplished what I set out to do for West Virginia. I’ve made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for reelection to the United States Senate. But what I will be doing is traveling the country and speaking out to see if there’s an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together. To the West Virginians, who have put their trust in me and fought side by side to make our state better, it has been my honor of my life to serve you. Thank you.”

You could say that Manchin, like Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), has been a thorn in the Democrats’ side, especially since the Democrats have the slimmest majority.
While a Democrat, Manchin is a loud centrist voice. West Virginia is a red state. It’s a great opportunity for the Republicans to take the majority after blowing it in Pennsylvania.
Will Manchin stay out of politics? Doubtful.
Manchin has said he will not run for president as a third-party candidate.

He will toy around with a 3rd party run to see if he can draw votes from Trump.
It will be Biden he draws votes from, not Trump. Trump voters will remember that he had a chance to defy Biden and the spendthrifts on the left with their Inflation reduction bill, and he whiffed. Had he stood his ground he would be a hero to the right.

That may well be, but he directly voted against the interest of the energy industry in his state and coal isthe lifeblood of West Virginia so he wasn’t going to get reelected no matter what.
My first place to look would be look for antennas and see which one you need to disconnect in which case the electronics in the car would not be able to talk to anything outside the car
Nice try but messing with the internal complicated electronics of one of these things is beyond the capacity of just about everyone. Even if you did end up finding whatever wireless system would allow the government to seize control of your vehicle, you’d probably end up damaging components necessary for other necessary firmware/software updates. Not practical. And the overall ignorance and apathy of the general public will guarantee this offensive state intrusion will be successful. Thanks again Republicans.

Unlike many in government, especially democrats, he didn’t have to die in office after many years of being mentally and physically incapable of doing his job.

I disagree. This hack sold out the interests of his state and is now scurrying away to prepare himself for other self aggrandizing activities, probably because internal polling shows he has a big problem.

You can be absolutely sure that Ronna Romney McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman and Mitt Romney’s niece, will be working as hard as she can to see that either a Democrat wins in West Virginia or more likely that she loses another different Republican Senate seat in order to protect that slim Democrat majority. In fact, I would not be surprised if she has not been working on that for a while, because I am sure that her contacts at the DNC probably gave her a heads up that this was coming.

When I graduated college around 1980 and took an engineering job in California, I thought about taking the California Bar Exam. I could have. No law school was required, just the exam, and I could practice. I used my insights from I guess Perry Mason and common sense and awareness of current events including legal events to score 10/10 on practice questions from the Multistate Bar Exam review book in the bookstore. The LSAT sample questions seemed harder, frankly. But I decided to do something else first. I probably would have failed anyway. I knew nothing of California law or legal writing and it’s apparently a hard state to pass in, but it would have been a real life experience.
Then California started requiring law school. Gotta pay to play. I had missed my chance.
Now states are allowing lawyers to practice with law school and no bar exam. Law schools becoming even more powerful. Our society becoming even more restrictive and socially engineered. Oregon acted here for reasons of “equity”. If you’re in Oregon (or Wisconsin or New Hampshire) watch out if you need a smart lawyer.

Abraham Lincoln “read law”. That is to say he became a lawyer through self-study and then by demonstrating his knowledge of the law by passing the bar exam. He did not, and could not afford to attend law school. For decades this was the standard in many states. Admission to the bar was based upon demonstrating knowledge of the law. This basic and beautiful libertarian practice has now been relegated to the dustbin of history. Today it is all about money and indoctrination. You need know nothing of the law. Just submit to your indoctrination and pay the fee.

Maybe he’s going to run against Biden for the presidential nomination. Biden looks vulnerable in recent polling, and Manchin is seething with ambition.
Oh now I listened to his 4 minute statement. He’s definitely running for president.
Just heard the idea floated that he runs as “No Labels” with Romney. Things get stranger by the moment. If the manipulation through social media is not addressed, and soon, it may not matter. Too many idiots playing roles. At least hippies were for peace.
Manchin has never impressed. He seems without convictions and vacillates too much. Anyone who got played like he did shows his judgment is suspect.
That sort of thing, esp. with RFK Jr. also running 3rd party, will throw the election into the House with each state receiving one vote. Presumably that would elect Trump.

In analogous news in a much smaller and more local race, I just learned today that Democrat Paul Penzone has decided not to run for re-election to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s position. This is the office to which “Sheriff Joe” Arpaio had been re-elected over and over again, until he was successfully hounded out of office by lawfare launched by the Obama administration. Penzone has had a lock on it since then, but now Republican Jerry Sheridan, Joe’s Chief Deputy and a very MAGA candidate, has a respectable chance of reclaiming the county.
That would be a plus
