Senate Republicans Demand Schumer Not to Accept Biden’s Request for $9 Billion for Gaza

“As you know, sending aid to the Palestinians in Gaza is akin to funneling aid directly to Hamas.”

Ten Senate Republicans asked Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to reject President Joe Biden’s request for $9 billion for Gaza humanitarian aid.

It’s simple: “As you know, sending aid to the Palestinians in Gaza is akin to funneling aid directly to Hamas.”

The $9 billion is part of Biden’s plan for $106 billion for the border, Israel, and Hamas.

It is common knowledge that any aid for Gaza goes to Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2007:

As we’ve seen in the past, this so-called “humanitarian aid” will likely be channeled through international organizations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This is not speculation — just last week, we saw reports that Hamas stole fuel and medical equipment from UNRWA, which the organization initially admitted but then subsequently denied. UNICEF medical kits were even found on the bodies of Hamas terrorists from the horrific October 7th attack. For over a decade, Hamas has stolen aid from UNRWA intended for the Palestinian people, and the organization has a well documented history of antisemitism. For example, UNRWA distributes educational materials that teach Palestinian children to hate Jews, and which glorify acts of terrorism.

Ukraine, of course, would get $61.4 billion, the majority of the request:

The request includes $30 billion for the Department of Defense to help supply Ukraine with weapons and replenish U.S. stocks. There is also $14.4 billion to support military intelligence in Ukraine and $481 million to help assist displaced Ukrainians arriving in the U.S.

Biden requested $14.3 billion for Israel. This includes $10.6 billion for air and missile support and $3.7 billion to help the State Department “assist in embassy support and foreign military financing.”

The $13.6 billion for border security is meant “to hire 1,300 additional border patrol agents, 1,600 new asylum officers and 375 new judge teams.” About $1.2 billion will go “to counter smuggling of the deadly drug fentanyl.”

The $9.15 billion is meant “for humanitarian needs across Israel, Ukraine, Gaza and other global needs.” Any leftover money will be used for “border migration and refugee assistance.”

Aid and Comfort to the Enemy. Pass this on to the impeachment committee.

Hamas is holding at least 10 Americans hostage. They are preventing at least another 500 Americans from leaving Gaza and holding them hostage in Gaza. And Biden wants to give them $9 billion to keep these hostages? Is there another definition of insanity? Treason, perhaps?

Paying to arm both sides is not very effective – unless your main goal is to make the arms dealers rich

No money to Ukraine or Hamas!!!

Humanitarian aid to Gaza means more money for Hamas to kill Jews.

Humanitarian aid to Ukraine means more money in Zalenky’s pocket.

Then what do you suggest?

a. Have Gaza open a gofundme account and let all the pro-palestinian demonstrators put their money where their mouth is.
b. Have Zalensky return half of the money he misused and there would be enough to fund the Ukraine war for 10 more years.

I thought Hamas was the elected government in Gaza. I also thought that they were a designated terror group which makes it illegal under US law to provide any support for.
Since the “purse strings” are held by The House, what does Schumer and The Senate have to do with this? Is Brandon confused as to how the government works?

I don’t mind if the Senate Republicans manage to stop something on their own. Probably some of the Jewish Senate Democrats will provide enough votes for a majority.

    Milhouse in reply to diver64. | October 31, 2023 at 10:15 pm

    1. It is illegal to give material support to Hamas, which is why none of the money the US sends, or proposes to send, is destined for Hamas. It helps Hamas only indirectly, by putting supplies where Hamas can seize them. That doesn’t break the law. But it still ends up the same way.

    2. No, the House does not hold the purse strings. Congress does — both houses. The only advantage the House has is that money bills must originate there and then go to the senate. But the senate can add money to a bill that came from the house, so this advantage is only slight.

Stuytown in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 12:20 am

Also, none of the $6 billion being returned to Iran can be used for military purposes.

      Come on, man.

Milhouse in reply to Stuytown. | November 1, 2023 at 2:33 am

Divers64 asked how Biden can give Hamas money, when that is against the law. I gave the full and correct answer. If you don’t like it that’s your problem; reality doesn’t care about your feelings.

          diver64 in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 7:09 am

Nope Mr Correction. You are wrong

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 7:50 am

Oh really? In what way am I wrong? Are you claiming Biden has given any money to Hamas?! Or that he is proposing to do so?! It’s a plain fact that he hasn’t and isn’t.

Or do you claim that it’s illegal to give material support to perfectly legal organizations if it seems that a designated foreign terrorist organization is likely to steal it from them? If so, what law says that?

*but* if the Senate modifies a bill that passed in the House, it has to go back to the House for another vote, where the House *can* strip that money right back out again and send it back if a majority of Representatives vote that way. Provided they have spines.

      diver64 in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 6:43 am

      Nope

    Milhouse in reply to diver64. | October 31, 2023 at 10:18 pm

Oh, and Hamas is not the “elected government” in Gaza. The election was not for a government of Gaza but for the PA. Hamas won a majority of the voters in that part of the PA; that did not make them the government of anywhere, because the Gaza Strip did not have its own government. Then Hamas seized power there with extreme violence and established a government.

Peabody in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 8:01 am

The IDF is coming to free them from Hamas just like Allies on D-Day liberated France. The Palestinians should rejoice.

Milhouse in reply to Peabody. | November 2, 2023 at 12:39 am

They don’t want to be freed from Hamas. The only ones who don’t support Hamas are those who support some other terrorist group instead.

Obviously give the $9 billion to Israel and let them give it to Gaza if they want.

How can anyone be so stupid as to believe there will be any effort to secure the border security when this joke of an administration is going to continue with the same open border policies that produced this stream of illegals in the first place. They only want more money to further there open border agenda.

Not a single dime should go to Hamas. Period.
And the only money that should flow to ‘Palestinians’ in Gaza should only be allowed to flow after the absolute destruction of their society and all you can hear in all of Gaza is the wailing of their widows and the crying of their children.

THEN you can set up soup kitchens.

    JohnSmith100 in reply to GWB. | October 31, 2023 at 8:05 pm

They will just turn their children into terrorists, that is extreme child abuse. Those people are unfit to raise children.

Milhouse in reply to GWB. | October 31, 2023 at 10:20 pm

Not a single dime is going to Hamas. That would be against the law, so it’s not happening. The money all goes to non-Hamas aid agencies, who buy stuff that people need, and then Hamas steals the stuff. Like when foreign aid agencies paid to lay water pipes, and then Hamas came along and dug them up to make rockets.

Stuytown in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 12:22 am

I guess if it’s against the law then it won’t happen. /s

Milhouse in reply to Stuytown. | November 1, 2023 at 2:36 am

That’s right. The administration does not break the law. It is against the law to give Hamas anything, so it isn’t. It’s merely giving stuff to people from whom Hamas can steal it. That isn’t against the law. It’s just damn stupid.

Stuytown in reply to Milhouse. | November 1, 2023 at 8:50 am

Do you work for the Administration? What you’re writing is bordering on crazy.

When Nixon said that “if the President does it, that means it isn’t illegal,” did you believe him?

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | November 2, 2023 at 12:42 am

What I wrote is the plain and obvious truth. If you dispute it you are either crazy or deliberately lying.

And yes, as a matter of fact, Nixon was completely correct. There are indeed laws that a president, by definition, can’t break, because they don’t apply to him.

What happened not millions

Everything is billions now

CommoChief in reply to gonzotx. | October 31, 2023 at 5:28 pm

Unfortunately we have moved on to Trillions. The Fed govt is set to borrow another $1.5 Trillion or so in the first 2 Quarters of the FY. That’s on top of the existing $33+ Trillion federal debt. That doesn’t include the unfunded liabilities such as the projected 25% shortfall in Social Security in a few years.

It’s so bad that the interest paid on the debt this FY will exceed our total Defense spending by quite a bit. So more money paid on the credit card bill than all billions on DoD. Total DoD budget is just under $1 Trillion out of $6.5 Trillion +/- in on the books spending. Debt service has been projected to be as much as $1.2 Trillion this FY.

It only gets worse due to rising borrowing cost for new debt issued and old very low interest rate debt rolled over into new bonds/bills at way higher rates. As an example the ten year is at 4.9% +/- but just two years ago was at 1.51%, which means the interest cost increased by more than 3X. Lots of debt instruments maturing between now and 2026 so plenty of room for much higher debt service. That means less available to spend elsewhere, including Defense or fixing Social Security.

      JohnSmith100 in reply to CommoChief. | October 31, 2023 at 8:08 pm

On top of that, we will probably have to greatly increase defense spending for both internal and external threats.

        CommoChief in reply to JohnSmith100. | November 1, 2023 at 11:24 am

The question is where does that additional spending come from? Increased taxation? Cuts in other portions of the budget? More borrowing?

IMO, the DoD budget doesn’t need to increase much if at all. The Army is too big and the Navy is too small, the AF and USMC are both about right, the Coast Guard needs an increase. We should reverse that and restore munitions stockpiles we sent to Ukraine and elsewhere. Beyond that? Pull in our horns a bit by focusing on our own hemisphere and the Indo/Pacific sea lanes with cooperation from Japan, India, Australia, NZ, Singapore, Taiwan. Europe has plenty of resources to take care of its own security, they gotta put a higher priority on that. Plus given the EU dependency on mideast oil and LNG they gotta step up with much higher more robust Naval presence from Strait of Hormuz all the way back to EU ports as does Japan to their ports.

Real American | October 31, 2023 at 4:44 pm

we are at war with these terrorists. we should be destroying them, not paying them. WTF!

BigRosieGreenbaum | October 31, 2023 at 4:45 pm

We don’t have $9b. Humanitarian aid would be to get rid of the terrorists. Let’s see Biden do that!

Offer it to the Palestinian people to take out Hamas.

So flatten Gaza. Turn it into a parking lot.

What alternative is there? Nobody is offering one.

When we bombed Japan did we send them aid money? When we bombed Germany did we send them aid money? Of course not! The Palestinian people celebrated the October 7 attack by cheering in the streets of Gaza. Where are all of these innocent Palestinians? There are none!

We should use that money to relocate them far enough away that they can’t get back to bother Israel. When I read it, I thought the money was to help Israel fight in Gaza, not to bail out the Gazans.

These proggie c*nts sure do like supporting terrorist scum, don’t they?

Maybe we could create an artificial island with scrap ships and abandon them. They could collect rain water and fish. A fitting end.

Remember 2 years ago when Democrats blocked sanctions on Hamas? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-democrats-block-bill-sanctioning-hamas-financial-supporters

Some 29 Americans were murdered by the criminal Gazan authorities (aka Hamas) while in Israel. At least 10 Americans were kidnapped while in Israel by the criminal Gazan authorities. From released anecdotal tapes, the criminal actions by the Gazan authorities seem to have popular support by the people of Gaza. Blinken admitted that the criminal authorities in Gaza have prevented Americans from leaving. The criminal Gazan authorities have allocated the billions of aid money – not to improve the lives of the locals but to further their criminal enterprise with the stockpiling of rockets and construction of tunnels.

So our feckless government is now proposing to borrow from the Chinese at usurious rates to give to the Gazan people and their criminal overlords $9B??? Is anyone in the administration sane?

How about demanding the immediate release of all of the American hostages, an accounting of all murdered Americans, the surrender of all of the criminals and their leaders for trial as war criminals, the sale of all the rockets and rpgs to fund relief, and the establishment of a new chartered government in Gaza – perhaps under the control of Egypt. And then lets take stock of the situation.

What did we expect? Anytime he faces choices, Biden will choose the most destructive one to the US.
