Report: Jewish Student’s Door Set on Fire at Drexel University

“The university is simultaneously dealing with another incident of alleged antisemitism.”

For what it’s worth, Drexel University is a hotbed of radical leftism.

FOX News San Antonio reports:

Jewish student’s dorm room door set on fire at Philly university, reports say

Officials at Drexel University in Philadelphia are investigating whether a Jewish student was the victim of a hate crime in the wake of the terrorist invasion of Israel.

The Philadelphia Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Drexel University’s Race Hall last week. First responders on the scene determined the fire was due to someone intentionally setting decorations on a residence hall door ablaze.

The resident of the dorm in question is Jewish, a Drexel spokesperson told local outlet WCAU, and campus police are now investigating whether the situation was a hate crime.

Following the incident, university president John Fry said the school supports its students’ right to peacefully debate one another, but fully condones violence.

“As a campus community, we need to maintain an environment of mutual respect that supports the free expression of ideas through civil discussion and peaceful protest while facilitating deep and authentic exploration of complex issues,” Fry wrote in a campus-wide announcement. “At the same time, there is a line between expressing strong opinions through robust discussion, debate, and peaceful protest — and targeting any individual for discrimination, intimidation, or hate.”

Fry went on to write that the fire is being investigated to determine whether “bias, discrimination or hate” were motivating factors. He also noted a prior letter to the community where he lamented the Israel-Hamas war and hoped for a resolution to the conflict.

The university is simultaneously dealing with another incident of alleged antisemitism. On Friday, Fry said a women’s bathroom on campus was “defaced” with “anti-Semitic graffiti.”

Edit: “fully condones violence”?

Might be the first non-hoax hate crime this year.

    Maybe.

    1. There is likely to have been at least one or two others. They can’t all be hoaxes.

    2. It is possible that this is a hoax too. Such things have been known to happen. It’s not how I’d bet, but unless and until the culprit is found one must keep an open mind.

You are right: one would think that Drexel’s president first priority would be to find the culprit(s) who did or are responsible for doing these things on campus. A fire in a dormitory is a serious threat, and should not be tolerated.

So is “fully condones” a misprint, or did he just admit the truth?

Did this overeducated individual remember that arson is a federal crime? If there were surveillance cameras in the area it should be possible to identify the arsonist(s).
