If you follow news, you have been hearing about the Natalee Holloway case for years. This week Jordan van der Sloot, the main suspect in the case, admitted killing Holloway in Aruba in 2005.

The Associated Press reports:

Suspect admits he killed Natalee Holloway in Aruba in 2005, pleads guilty to extorting her mother

The chief suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway has admitted he beat the young Alabama woman to death on a beach in Aruba after she refused his advances, then dumped her body into the sea. New details in the killing emerged Wednesday as Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty to extorting Holloway’s mother, resolving a case that has captivated the public’s attention for nearly 20 years.

Although he isn’t charged in Holloway’s death, van der Sloot’s attempt to squeeze a quarter million dollars from the slain teen’s mom in exchange for information about where to find Holloway’s body gave investigators a crucial link to the 2005 killing. And after finally seeing him in a U.S. courtroom, the family said they’re moving on from years of doubt and uncertainty.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s over,” Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mother, told reporters outside the federal courthouse in Alabama. “Joran van der Sloot is no longer the suspect in my daughter’s murder. He is the killer.”

Natalee Holloway went missing during a high school graduation trip with classmates. She was last seen May 30, 2005, leaving a bar with van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen and student at an international school on the Caribbean island where he grew up. He was questioned in the disappearance but never prosecuted. A judge declared Holloway dead, but her body was never found.

The details of the killing are horrific. Holloway rejected sexual advances from van der Sloot, so he bashed her head in with a cinder block, then put her body in the ocean.

FOX News has more:

“You have brutally murdered, in separate incidents, years apart, two young women who refused your sexual advances,” Judge Anna Manasco told van der Sloot in court, referencing an unrelated murder of another woman.

Manasco called the extortion and fraud charges “heinous” because the killer knew the information he was selling was a lie to make profit. However, as part of the deal, she said federal prosecutors have agreed not to use his confession against him for any other purposes…

Van der Sloot, a 36-year-old Dutch national, was charged with extortion and wire fraud in the U.S. after he allegedly attempted to sell the mother information about her daughter’s body in 2010.

Beth Holloway, who teared up at times, said she lost her job, teaching license and tenure while searching for answers about her daughter’s disappearance.

Joran van der Sloot received a sentence of 20 years, but it will be served concurrently with the sentence he is already serving in the death of another woman.

Any updates on JonBenet Ramsey?

“Joran van der Sloot received a sentence of 20 years, but it will be served concurrently with the sentence he is already serving in the death of another woman.”
So then, no real penalty.
20 years for a murder. Bet the other sentence isn’t life, either.

Come on, it’s not like he trespassed on the capitol retonda. Or after yesterday maybe I should say it’s not like he’s a non-democrat who trespassed on the capitol rotunda.

But Mr. Bowperson, you fail to consider the deep moral opprobrium this will inflict on the Dutch boy.

20 years in a South American prison is no joke. Which is why he didn’t challenge the US charges.

Is he doing this because he wants to serve his time in a US prison instead of Peru?

If he can get moved to a prison in CA or WA, he can “identify” as a woman and live in a cushier women’s prison with lots of potential victims.

How about a prison in Alabama, where Natalee Holloway and her long-suffering family are from?

That could make it the longest, or shortest, 20 years of his life.

    Murder one, get one free.

The guy is still lying. Pushed her body knee-deep into the surf? No he didn’t, if he had the body would have washed up on shore.

May this criminal be given a cell with a 350 lb Neo Nazi named Bubba who just hates abusers of women.

Daddy’s with daughters.

It is your primary job to make sure the headlines read “Girl cleared in self defense killing.”

Bill O’really milked this story. He was shameless.

Let’s hope this human vermin finally gets punished…slowly, with extreme prejudice.

Why is he not swinging from a rope, right now?

If he could have named clients of the other Caribbean rapist as part of his plea deal, the cameras in his cell wouldn’t have been working the night he made a noose.
