House Voting on Kevin McCarthy’s Future as Speaker of the House
Here we go again.
Rep. Matt Gaetz put forth his motion to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
The first vote is to table the motion, which is rejecting the motion. Oklahoma Rep. Ton Cole demanded this vote.

The alphabetical roll call will start around 4 PM ET.
During the debate, Thomas Massie pointed out the spending bills pushed through by Trump and Pelosi. It still doesn’t make what’s going on in the House right now right.

So, whatever happens, at the end of this process, every Democrat budget priority will end up being funded in some omnibus monstrosity just before the holidays. Assuming the Speaker is vacated, what is the Republican caucus’ plan, from those who led this charge, to replace McCarthy? They must know who he or she is, don’t you think?

What’s wrong with a very simple outcome of consequences imposed? Everyone wringing their hands about chaos after vacating the chair should have been just as concerned about potential chaos prior to arriving here.
Had they been as concerned about it then as some protest they are now they would have done the hard work of pulling aside the Northern moderate and suburban Rep who comprise the establishment’s reliable bloc of votes and explain the new dynamics. That with a slim majority and a populist core of members larger than the delta they gonna have to play ball with the populists of the populists may very well unleash chaos.
Unfortunately the so called ‘adults’ decided they didn’t have to cater to the populist bloc the same way they catered to the moderates/suburban bloc over the decades who consistently watered down the legislative agenda wanted by voters. Tough cookies.

McCarthy was stupid enough to publicly taunt Gaetz with his moronic ‘bring it on’, when he didn’t have the votes to survive. Not unlike his previous idiocy of starting votes for Speaker KNOWING that he didn’t have the votes, and requiring multiple public humiliations before finally going back to the negotiating table.
Regardless of anything else, McCarthy is simply incompetent. He made a deal with Gaetz and his crew to become Speaker, and unambiguously violated the public promises he made for those votes.
Was he honestly SO stupid and incompetent that he thought the Democrats were going to save him?
McCarthy was just a useful idiot to the Democrats, and now the useful part is over.
I guess it never occurred to MCarthy to negotiate responsibly with Gaetz and other disgruntled republicans. There is something inherently wrong with a republican speaker who’d rather negotiate with democrats.
I believe the issue was more that McCarthy lied his ass off every time he negotiated with Republicans while he cut secret deals with the Dems.
It was a huge mistake to give him that chair in the first place.
Now getting him out will be worse and harder than it was to find somebody that could get the votes.

Elections are decided by the least informed, least engaged and generally lest partisan voters. Right now, they’re watching chaos unfold in the House. They have no idea who’s to blame or who they should support or even what this is all about. They just see dysfunction…in a GOP-controlled House. Does Gaetz care? Of course not. He’s in a +30 GOP District. There’s no way he’s going to lose his seat.
But, there are between 40 and 60 GOP seats that were decided by less than 5-points. Those people are going to be in for a rough ride next year.
Baloney. Only if they don’t get out there and sell Americanism and the Constitution to their constituents. Maybe make an effort at actually getting the voters to believe in the right things and vote that way, instead of shrugging your shoulders and saying “Can’t. My voters wouldn’t like it.”

Here are facts.
1, Most people think that most members of the House are crooks.
2. The house is voting for someone accused of being a crook being held partially to account for it.
3. Most don’t know whether McCarthy is a crook or not, but I suspect that do believe that it is more likely than not.
This action is not going to hurt candidates.
It still doesn’t make what’s going on in the House right now right.
And how is what’s going on wrong? WITHOUT using the arguments the GOPe is using to maintain their loyal opposition role to the Dems?

He told McCarthy he would do this. He did it. Anyone too worried about consequences after the event should probably have worked harder to keep the event from being necessary.
If someone is holding a hand grenade and tells you don’t do X or I pull the pin, especially when you’ve promised not to do X and gave them the grenade to keep you honest…. don’t be upset or surprised when if you do X that persons pulls the pin.

Well, at least now we know for sure that Matt Gaetz has allied himself with all 207 left-wing Democrats.
State media is wailing that Congress is unable to conduct business. But as we can see in any oversight committee, Congress doesn’t run things and the permanent bureaucracy routinely blows off oversight as an imposition on DC masterminds. All while Democrats kick dirt over any truth the Republicans might get at. With this situation who cares if Congress does business or not?
