Sen. Menendez Will Not Resign Despite Federal Bribery Indictments

More and more Democrats have called on Sen. Bob Menendez (NJ) to resign after the feds indicted him on federal bribery and corruption charges.

Menendez and his wife pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Menendez told the Democratic Senate Caucus he will not resign:

“I will continue to cast votes on behalf of the people of New Jersey as I have for 18 years,” Menendez said as he exited the lunch. “I think Schumer may need those votes, he’ll be looking forward for me to cast them.”

I am glad Menendez is not resigning. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I’m tired of people losing their jobs based on accusations and allegations.

Until you are convicted of a crime, nothing should happen to you.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) said that’s what Menendez spoke about at the lunch: “I think he made his point, he delivered it very well. Basically the whole theme of everything was every American is innocent until proven guilty, giving the benefit of the doubt.”

From the indictment:

From at least 2018 up to and including in or about 2022, MENENDEZ and his wife, NADINE MENENDEZ, a/k/a “Nadine Arslanian,” the defendant, engaged in a corrupt relationship with three New Jersey associates and businessmen—WAEL HANA, ida “Will Hana,” JOSE URIBE, and FRED DAIBES, the defendants—in which MENENDEZ and NADINE MENENDEZ agreed to and did accept hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for using MENENDEZ’s power and influence as a Senator to seek to protect and protect HANA, URIBE, and DAIBES and to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt. Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value.
