The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Police Department found clothing belonging to a Tanzanian fashion designer at the home of non-binary ex-Energy official Sam Brinton.
Asya Khamsin accused Brinton of stealing her luggage from Ronald Reagan National Airport in 2018. She had heard about Brinton allegedly stealing luggage at other airports.
The news piqued Khamsin’s interest. She found pictures of Brinton wearing her custom-made outfits.
MWAA executed a search warrant at Brinton’s house in May.
They found Khamsin’s clothes and returned them to her.
Khamsin went to D.C. in March 2018 for an event to display her clothes. She could not participate because her luggage disappeared.
Khamsin filed reports with MWAA and Delta Air Lines at the time.
Brinton became the first non-binary gender-fluid person in government when the DOE placed him in a position in the Office of Nuclear Energy.
However, Brinton became famous after numerous reports came out of him allegedly stealing luggage in America.
Last October, police charged Brinton with stealing a woman’s luggage in Minneapolis. The owner claimed the suitcase contained items worth $2,325.
Court papers say that Brinton admitted he took the suitcase at the Minneapolis airport but left the clothes in the hotel room. He then checked into the airport with the suitcase and flew back to D.C.
Brinton also faced grand larceny charges for allegedly stealing luggage at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
The records showed the luggage had items worth between $1,200 and $5,000.
Brinton escaped jail time for those two cases.
