Democratic El Paso Mayor: City at ‘Breaking Point,’ Sends Migrants to Sanctuary Cities
“I think it’s really important to note that we have a broken immigration system.”
El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser (D) said his city has reached its “breaking point” as it faces 2,000 migrants arriving every day:
“The city of El Paso only has so many resources and we have come to… a breaking point right now,” El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser, a Democrat, said at a news conference Saturday.
Leeser’s comments come as El Paso has faced over 2,000 migrants per day crossing the border and seeking asylum in the city, putting a strain on resources and overflowing the available shelter space.
“So, this is something that we’ve been prepared for, but these numbers have really escalated a lot quicker than we ever anticipated,” he added.
The border patrol has had to put 6,500 in shelters in the past ten days.
El Paso has no more room. The city opened a new shelter, but it only holds 400 people.
Leeser also said the majority of migrants come from Venezuela.
We’ve seen many single adult men crossing the borders.
“I think it’s really important to note that we have a broken immigration system,” stressed Leeser. “It’s the same thing over and over again.”
Leeser chartered five buses to Chicago, Denver, and New York City.
The migrants chose their destination. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) told the Texas Division of Emergency Management to send more buses to El Paso and Eagle Pass.
I directed @TDEM to deploy more buses to Eagle Pass & El Paso amid the migrant surge.
Texas border towns should not have to shoulder the burden of Biden’s open border policies.

I lived in El Paso for a decade before coming home to Bama in early ’21. Leeser is more of traditional local d not a raving loony. He is a local small business owner and was elected basically to try and get the City budget back into reality and get some of the major redevelopment projects back on track. He’s not a bad Mayor, not elite but kind of boringly competent on basic issues.
That said, he’s still a d but not really a progressive. He has been, IMO, far too reluctant to criticize the Biden admin or rock the d party boat. Given the vindictiveness of the Biden admin and the City reliance upon fed govt help to reimburse some of the costs created by illegal immigrants I might have been willing to give him a pass until last fall when it was crazy bad as well. Better late than never.

He’s still a Democrat Mayor who supported the flow of illegal aliens into the country, until they flooded his city that is.
Unless he admits he was wrong in that and does something to stop it he is merely a hypocrite being bit in the butt by his own agenda choices.
Well, when you choose to not use your muscles, they atrophy. Apparently, it did take a while for Lesser to pull his head out of his ass. Probably, someone told him that he would be kicked off the gravy train the next election.
The media is successfully distracting again. Biden has shipped orders of magnitude more illegals (often in the dead of night) across the country than governors or mayors have.
I’d like to read a really professional story (like here) about the claims I have seen elsewhere that Biden is arranging regular flights to transport illegal immigrants DIRECTLY from their third-word shitholes into the US, without even having to make the “walk.” If true, it could be a bombshell.
I think you’re talking about this. Not government-arranged flights, but regular commercial flights.

And oh, who pays for those tickets? It seems we’ll never know because the numbers aren’t published and Biden’s people aren’t forced to answer questions the media refuse to ask them. So forget an even cursory audit being presented to the taxpayers.

A “broken immigration system” Mr. Dem Mayor? That sounds too complicated. Don’t you mean that the problem is a Dem Administration that has an open borders policy?
The only thing “broken” is several presidential administrations’ (excluding Trump’s) abject failure in enforcing current law. Until that changes, nothing else needs to be “fixed.”

In the US, the Supreme Court has consistently ruled that Immigration policy is the province of the Congress. They pass multi-year immigration bills that contain specific quotas of immigrants from various countries of origin. So for Venezuela there is a # for FY 2023. Let’s just say it is 42,000. That number is meaningless if uncounted, unverified number of unidentified folks are streaming across the border. Look at the UK, the most recently passed immigation bill also has a numeric quota for immigrants with the UK as country of origin, for fiscal year 2023. It is more likely to be nearly adhered to, due to the relative difficulty of entering the country from overseas. So, you have Congress, expressing its prerogative in establishing some number of immigrants, and for select countries in proximity to our southern border, the numbers are being completely ignored.
The Biden administration is not even doing biometric (retina scans, fingerprints, DNA sampling) identification of these folks, many of whom are from locations were formal identification has never been recorded.
This is completely absurd, It should be the first basis for impeachment of President Biden.

But that’s no longer the case. Countries south of our border are now happily allowing overseas “immigrants” in for $500/head, provided they can show satisfactorily that their intention is to immediately take the journey north. People from myriad overseas locations, including China, are now streaming over our southern border.

Wonder if we can get enough people to rent a train with about 50 passenger cars. Kind of send it on a circle tour of sanctuary cities every week.
And for the passengers’ entertainment on the long trips, they can stage an “unexpected train robbery” with costumed desperadoes, like they do on the Grand Canyon line out of WIlliams.
Or, they can just paint “Amazon Smile” on the cars and get the same thing for free every time they approach Los Angeles.
