VIDEO: Heartfelt Reactions To Oliver Anthony’s Populist Anthem “Rich Men North Of Richmond”

This anthem is meaningful to those of all political stripes who can see what is happening and reject it.

Mike previously noted that Oliver Anthony’s populist anthem “The Rich Men North of Richmond” went viral because it hit home with a vast majority of Americans.

Anthony’s song has indeed struck an emotional and deep-seated chord among forgotten Americans, those of all races, as a recent viral mash-up of reactions to his heart-felt and heart-wrenching song makes clear.

(Warning: Grab a box of tissues)

This anthem is meaningful to those of all political stripes who can see what is happening and reject it.

The next step is figuring out how to undo the Democrat-coerced divisions along identity lines so that we can all come together. Right now.

Needless to say, people have thoughts.

We have passed through an inversion, as this has Woody Guthrie written all over it.

You beat me to it. In the late 1960s -early 1970s- CSNY would be out front with this song kind of like “Ohio” and FM radio long play formats would eat it up…

True. In the post cold war era the establishment of both major political parties eventually came on board with cozying up to China. In that new unipolar world they sought to use economic levers to win over the developing world. Very oversimplified the scheme was to tie them so tightly into economic relationships with the USA that they had no choice but to tolerate the USA as the global hegemonic power.

It began with recognition of China as a legit power by bringing them into the IMF and granting them most favored nation trade status with the USA. NAFTA and other trade deals followed.

All that combined to push manufacturing out of the USA the effects of which still linger in middle America. Today we don’t/can’t even make aspirin at home instead we import cheap crap from abroad. Our economy is now a service economy not one centered on manufacturing. So those good paying middle class jobs are largely gone, replaced with folks holding multiple service economy, gig economy or side hustled to get by.

The folks who work in govt and academia were largely untouched personally by this hollow out effect. The number of of workers in those sectors rose dramatically while manufacturing jobs plummeted. Not to mention the plight of folks who used to mine coal or the loggers and fishermen likewise slammed with punitive regulations.

The folks who made out like true bandits during the transition and after were those on Wall St and the already wealthy who could shift their capital to higher yielding investments abroad. The incentive structure created by our own government encouraged this. Both major political parties were knee deep in the decisions that created it.

The modern populist movement on the right has been growing in fits and starts since ’92 and Perot. When the lefty populists figure out they have more in common with us on the populist right than the d/prog it will shift the political alignment. It already began over 30 years ago, picked up steam in the Tea Party era and Trump caused more recovering leftists to open their eyes in ’16.

….or, like me. Thirty five years of industrial maintenance experience that I choose to withhold. I’d rather flip burgers than write plc ladders or rebuild pumps for an industry that cast me aside.
I have gone Galt. What is the purpose?

You are definitely not alone. Lots of others fortunate enough to be in a position to exit the rat race have found a quiet patch of land in a still sane and unlikely to change area and called it quits. Then there’s the quiet quitting phenomenon of folks doing just enough to keep their job but not enough to advance. Heck, some of them work their side hustles from their regular job.

We see a more disturbing version in our youth, particularly young men. These are the guys who have given up on trying to make it. Instead they ate content with video games and online presence working just enough to not get fired at whatever job they have. A few live at home w/ Mommy but many are independent. They have a car, an apartment or tiny house and spend their income and free time gaming.

There’s a lot these guys around who simply don’t see the payoff of busting their ass for an uncaring employer who will downsize them the moment they can. They don’t have a girlfriend or wife b/c many younger women have crazy standards. Check out some of the requirements in these women’s profiles on dating apps; must be 6 Ft tall, make $100K+ which eliminates roughly 85-90% of these young men.

Then on top of this the women want handsome, charming, treat them like a princess and so on. Yet these same women are all chasing the 10-15% of men who do meet the standard then wonder why they can’t find a nice guy to settle down. All they meet is ‘players’ trying to hook up; which makes sense b/c the men they want are the same men every other women wants so these men have choices. These women apparently never heard the story about free milk and cow

It’s a very lonely life for these young men who don’t qualify on the crazy standard scale and they have checked out of trying to attain middle-class upward mobility. They feel abandoned by society they have in turn abandoned it. It’s also why many men today won’t assist women b/c they believe most women don’t view them as men when they have eliminated them from any potential selection for a relationship. That and 3rd wave feminism. The whole ‘all men are trash’ along with ‘I don’t need a man’ attitude is becoming a boomerang effect back onto all women. Sad but true.

I hope Oliver Anthony has the good sense to avoid media as much as possible…

Scooterjay: “We have passed through an inversion, as this has Woody Guthrie written all over it.”

Vivek Ramaswamy is riding that same inversion front. He wins the Primary and goes on to defeat all comers.

Progressives are now the traditional, stolid, prude-ossified overlord class.

Vivek says the right things but it remains to be seen if his gait matches his verbage. I’m still watching, but dubiously.

I noticed a sea-change a few months back and previous to the New Protest Song Movement. But the two things are linked and really just one thing.

Independent music and film reactors on YT and Twitter – from different racial, social and economic backgrounds; all of them competitors, were watching 70-80’s videos of Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman and others generally linked to the right wing.

Almost all of them felt enlightened by the experience. It’s obvious just by watching them. It’s not a put on. They aren’t confidence men or women. Urban and suburban whites and blacks and Hispanics. Most of them 20-35 years old. None of them would class themselves center-right. They’re the new Movement folk.

All those reactors – really just what we older people would term music and film critics. And their fans are caught in the flow of things. This new Movement – soon a mass movement – not controlled by Marxist front groups.

It’s not you or me he’s courting. He wants to capture this new inversion class.

I probably need to affix the following disclaimer to every thread involving Trump: I don’t hate the man. Paul Ryan and the uni-republicans opposed Trump at every turn. He got screwed. I’ll vote for him with no regrets.

Tiki in reply to Tiki. | August 20, 2023 at 2:14 am

Three hours later. Never heard of this reactor before. Near the end of the clip he references …

        https://youtu.be/0aIiS99pUAs?t=416

Nothing stunning. These young critics are all testifying to internal change. I’m not cherry-picking favorites.

CommoChief in reply to Tiki. | August 20, 2023 at 7:58 am

Absolutely. There are reactors/influencers exploring different ideas and philosophical perspectives they weren’t taught previously and posting the content for others while they do so.

There’s a legit something percolating, not sure if I would call it a movement just yet. Maybe the beginnings of a political/cultural awakening to the info denied to them by the establishment is more accurate until it translates into concrete results at the polls.

Either way there is no doubt that these guys are spreading the info far and wide to folks who don’t pay attention to conventional sources. The most common theme seems to be anger that the information was hidden from them and a realization that the establishment wants to use race to divide.

Everybody knows the “elite” parasite class is sucking the life out of everybody. Other primates have it figured out: get a buddy, pluck the parasites, and eat ’em.

The entire Federal government is the rich men.

And he didn’t even bring up the endless wars of the Uni-Party and the Federal parasites.
